Chapter 483: Potential test
Chapter 483: Potential test
The hall on the ground floor was vast, constructed with a scale that made even large gatherings appear small within it. The ceiling stretched high above, supported by thick pillars that carried faint inscriptions across their surfaces.
At the center of the hall stood the testing structure, a massive circular disk with a hollow center, resembling a ring laid flat against a raised platform. Its surface was smooth and pale, with faint lines running across it like veins.
Dominic walked ahead at a steady pace, his steps measured. Ethan followed without distraction, observing everything in silence.
"This castle has a total of eight floors," Dominic said as they moved through the hall. His tone remained even, as if he were explaining something routine rather than significant. "Those with potential ranging from bronze to gold remain on the ground floor."
They passed by several members who turned their attention toward them but did not interfere.
"With each increase in potential rank, a member is placed on a higher floor," Dominic continued. "The structure itself is not as simple as it appears. This castle is a spatial treasure. The forests, the training grounds, and everything you saw outside are all part of the ground floor alone."
Ethan listened without interrupting.
"I have heard that the upper floors contain environments that are more refined," Dominic added. "There are also resources and treasures available there that can be exchanged for advancement. Members on those floors tend to progress at a faster rate than those here."
Ethan gave a slight nod, committing the information to memory.
They reached the center of the hall and stopped in front of the disk.
Up close, its size became more apparent. The inner hollow formed a perfect circle, and the outer ring was thick enough to support several people standing side by side. A faint, almost imperceptible energy flowed across its surface.
Dominic turned slightly toward Ethan.
"Place your hand on the disk," he said. "It will respond to your potential. The color determines your rank. The form it takes is also important."
Ethan looked at the disk briefly, then back at Dominic.
"It may take the shape of a weapon, a beast, or something else entirely," Dominic continued. "That form reflects aspects of your nature. It is used as a secondary method of evaluation."
Ethan did not ask further questions.
He stepped forward, climbed onto the platform, and placed his hand flat against the surface of the disk.
The reaction was immediate.
A faint bronze light appeared beneath his palm.
It spread across the surface in a thin layer, forming a stable glow.
Then, without pause, it shifted.
The bronze deepened and transitioned into silver almost instantly.
Dominic’s gaze sharpened.
The speed was unusual.
Under normal circumstances, each transition required at least a short interval, even for those with higher potential. The disk did not typically move without resistance between ranks.
The silver did not stabilize.
It shifted again.
Gold.
The change occurred in a continuous flow, without any visible delay.
Dominic’s expression tightened slightly.
"What is this," he said under his breath, his voice low enough that it did not carry far.
The disk did not stop.
The gold dimmed into a muted silver-gray tone.
Platinum.
Dominic’s hand closed into a fist at his side.
Ethan had already surpassed gold, and the test had not shown any sign of slowing.
Outside the hall, a faint silver-gray light rose into the air above the structure.
Several members on the training grounds noticed it immediately.
"That is the testing hall," one of them said.
Another narrowed his eyes.
"Platinum already?"
The dog-headed man from earlier let out a short breath through his nose.
"Dominic found something interesting,he is one lucky bastard," he said, then began walking toward the hall without hesitation. Others followed behind him.
Inside, the disk shifted again.
The silver-gray deepened, then transitioned into a clear green.
Emerald.
The light expanded outward, becoming more pronounced.
In the training grounds, movement slowed.
"Emerald," someone said quietly.
"It has been a long time since we see someone at this rank."
On the first floor, several individuals turned their attention downward as the light reached them through the structure.
"It seems someone will be moving up soon with us," one of them said.
The green did not hold either.
It brightened, then condensed.
And turned White which was the rank of diamond.
The transition was abrupt, almost compressed, as if the disk had skipped a step in stabilizing the energy.
Then it shifted again.
Red, the rank of Legends.
Inside the hall, Dominic did not speak.
There was nothing to add. The sequence had already exceeded expectation. The outsider he found in his tour outside turned out to have potential value in the legendary rank and it was still going on.
Ethan remained still, his hand still resting on the disk. His expression did not change.
The red light intensified briefly.
Then it deepened and turned Purple.
Epic.
At that point, the reaction spread beyond the hall.
Members across the ground floor began to stop what they were doing. Conversations ended without being completed. Attention converged in a single direction.
And Epic member had come to join them.
The purple light lingered for a fraction longer than the previous colors.
Then it changed.
Gold.
Mythical.
The shift was distinct.
Unlike the previous transitions, this one carried weight.
Within the castle, members below level thirty lowered themselves without instruction.
It was not hesitation or confusion. It was compliance.
A strict clan rule.
"When you see a mythical grade member, if you are not above level 30, you will have to bow regardless of his level.", this was the rule.
Inside the hall, Dominic remained standing, but his posture had become rigid. He was too shocked to feel anything right now.
The gold light stabilized for a moment.
Then it darkened and turned pure Black.
It was the rank of the Ultimate grade.
This time, the reaction was immediate and absolute.
Across the entire castle, from the ground floor to the highest level, every member who perceived the change lowered themselves.
There were no exceptions.
The authority associated with that rank did not require reinforcement.
It was understood.
Silence extended through every section of the structure.
Becuase only the founder of clan, the ancestor had an ultimate grade potential.
However Ethan did not move.
The disk continued to emit the black light, steady and dense.
For a brief moment, it appeared that the process had reached its conclusion.
Dominic exhaled slowly.
His focus remained fixed, but the tension in his expression shifted into something more controlled.
An Ultimate-grade potential.
That alone was enough to alter the balance within the clan.
Resources, authority, and attention would inevitably be redirected.
The implications were immediate.
Then the disk changed again.
The black light trembled.
It did not fade.
It distorted.
A faint ripple passed across its surface, as if something beneath it was forcing its way through.
"Don’t tell me....", a female member in the 6th floor put her hands on her mouth.
Then everyone seemed to remember something and this time members above level 100 couldn’t sit still.
They moved like wind and descended to the ground floor.
