Chapter 1324: Chapter 1325: Didn’t reply until almost twelve o’clock
“That’s great, thank you Miss Rong.”
After voicing his thanks, he realized his fear and cautiously spoke again, “Ahem, that is, Miss Rong, if Mr. Li asks later, could you please not say it was me who told you. Mr. Li doesn’t like me doing these things, and if he finds out, he will definitely be angry…”
Rong Yan understood what he meant and immediately replied, “I absolutely won’t betray you! Rest assured, Assistant Gu.”
Gu Ming felt a relief in his chest and smiled faintly, “I believe in Miss Rong.”
He seemed genuinely busy and continued, “Then I’ll wait for Miss Rong to come over. I have to get back to work now.”
“Mm, goodbye. I’ll message you before I come over.”
“Okay.”
The call ended.
Rong Yan took out preserved eggs, lean pork, cucumbers, eggplants, and bok choy from the refrigerator. She closed the kitchen door, so that the noise from the kitchen wouldn’t disturb the person already asleep in the bedroom.
“Let’s see… chop the lean pork into mince and add ginger to remove the gamey taste, peel two preserved eggs, cut them into small pieces. Preserved eggs, preserved eggs.”
Rong Yan found the preserved eggs, compared the ingredients on the cooking app to make sure nothing was wrong, rolled up her sleeves revealing fair arms, found an apron to put on, and started washing the vegetables.
Preserved egg and pork congee is very simple, it just takes time to cook. Luckily, besides the congee, she had other things to prepare. She didn’t mind the trouble and started working on each dish one by one.
Ever since she took the initiative to cook hotpot last time, Rong Yan found that she was quite good at cooking, or at least, she learned very quickly.
She put the rice into the casserole, added water and the prepared ingredients, and started simmering them. Then she got busy preparing other things…
The kitchen was lit up as bright as day, with the occasional sound of chopping vegetables. As time ticked by, the aroma of the food started to drift through the air.
An hour later, just as she was almost done preparing the food to bring, her phone beeped with a notification.
Rong Yan sneakily took a moment from her busyness to grab her phone and saw that it was a new message from the person she was planning to visit.
She opened the conversation.
The message was sent at 23:40.
Just one line: [Didn’t have my phone on me. Yeah, working overtime.]
Rong Yan scrolled back to see the message she sent him, which showed she messaged him at six in the afternoon asking him if he would come home for dinner, whether he’d work overtime today, and what time he’d come back.
But she never got a reply.
She guessed he probably didn’t have time to reply because he was busy with work, so she didn’t send him any more messages.
It seems like he’s either just finished his work or is taking a break now, right?
While she was thinking, her phone vibrated again.
She looked down and saw a new message. It was still the same conversation, Li Shengxiao had sent another message: [Are you asleep?]
It was completely dark outside already.
Rong Yan leaned comfortably against the warm counter, watching the almost ready preserved egg and pork congee on the stove, and propped her chin with one hand as she replied to his message.
[Nope. I just checked my phone too.]
[Are you mad?]
Before she had the chance to reply, in the next second, two more messages seamlessly came flying in: [Don’t be mad, okay? I didn’t expect to be busy until this late either, it was my oversight, making you wait. I’ll be more careful next time.]
[What did you have for lunch? Did you have fun?]
Rong Yan hadn’t hidden the fact she met with Jiang Chenyue, and seeing the messages, her heart thumped loudly, and for some reason, the image of him sitting at his spacious desk, looking down and replying to her messages surfaced in her mind.
