As they were heading out, she suddenly turned her head and looked toward Chu Xi, asking gently, “Miss Chu, do you have someone coming to pick you up?”

Chu Xi shook her head, looking a bit embarrassed as she replied, “I haven’t called home yet.”

“I see… That’s fine.” Madame Lin unexpectedly suggested, “How about asking Shengxiao to give you a ride?”

Chu Xi immediately cast a glance at the dignified and commanding man, then quickly withdrew her gaze. After hesitating for a moment, she said, “That might not be appropriate. Mr. Li likely has other matters to attend to. I wouldn’t want to trouble him.”

Madame Lin, politely but firmly, seemed to be addressing both Chu Xi and Li Shengxiao as she said, “You saved Wanwan’s life this time, and for that, you are a great benefactor to our family. On top of that, your left hand is fractured from saving Wanwan, and you can’t drive. We have no excuse to leave you unattended, whether emotionally or logically. Shengxiao doesn’t have any plans tonight; it’s perfectly reasonable for him to give you a ride. Shengxiao, what do you think?”

Li Shengxiao’s face remained cold and austere as he stood up without a word, neither agreeing nor refusing.

Su Yi silently shook her head at him, a subtle reminder not to go back on the promise he had made to her earlier.

Caught between everyone, Lin Teng felt thoroughly conflicted. For the first time, he realized that these trivial family matters were more vexing and burdensome than the responsibilities he normally dealt with—so burdensome that no matter whom he helped, it would feel wrong.

His mature and composed face showed signs of weariness as his gaze landed on the tall figure of the man across from him. With great difficulty, he found himself saying, “Shengxiao, perhaps you could give her a ride?”

As he spoke, he felt deeply embarrassed.

He couldn’t help but feel like he had failed miserably as an uncle!

Yet he was truly stuck in the middle with no easy way out. After all, Chu Xi had saved Lin Wan’s life. Not being able to leave himself but still doing nothing for her was simply unacceptable. The only person left with any free time was Li Shengxiao, leaving Lin Teng with no other choice!
