Chapter 1468: Chapter 1469: Announcing Sovereignty
Sorry to trouble you—
Her words weren’t even finished before her wrist was suddenly grabbed. She turned around, and the man’s unparalleled, refined face crashed into her line of sight.
Li Shengxiao gripped the girl’s slender wrist firmly. His voice, deep and magnetic like a cello, resonated powerfully, “Sorry, baby. I’m late.”
Sorry, baby… Rong Yan’s heart started pounding wildly, nearly bursting out of her chest. Her eyes were locked on his, completely dazed.
Li Shengxiao’s lips carried a faint, perfect smile. He reached out carefully to tuck a stray strand of her hair behind her ear before looking towards the man sitting in the car. His gaze flickered with a cold glint, his eyes narrowing slightly. “What a coincidence, running into you here, Mr. Zhong.”
“Cousin?” Su Xiansui hadn’t expected him to be nearby. After calling him “Cousin,” she abruptly realized something, darting a quick glance at Rong Yan before shrinking her shoulders and biting her lip, trying to make herself as unnoticeable as possible.
She used to not fear this cousin who wasn’t related to her by blood. But ever since her disastrous reprimanding last time, she now felt a faint dread every time she encountered him.
Especially considering that the woman who had caused her to be lectured so badly was also here. She was terrified of history repeating itself, of being publicly disciplined by Li Shengxiao in front of others again.
After being chastised in a mall last time, she never dared step foot in that mall again.
This time, if it were to happen again in front of the person she liked, she’d probably want to die out of shame!
Compared to Su Xiansui’s surprised and nervous expression, neither Zhong Yuye nor Estelle appeared the least bit surprised at the man’s sudden arrival, almost as if they had anticipated it.
Estelle politely greeted Li Shengxiao, “Mr. Li.”
“Mm.” Li Shengxiao responded with a nod, showing a measure of courtesy.
Estelle, initially not expecting any acknowledgment from him, was left both astonished and flattered.
“Is Mr. Zhong here for a meal as well?” Raising his chin slightly, Li Shengxiao’s face carried a touch of aloofness, handsome yet exuding an unapproachable coldness.
Zhong Yuye’s gaze scanned over his face, shifted downward to their interlocked hands, then returned to meet Li Shengxiao’s faintly warning eyes. Suddenly, he chuckled, resting one hand casually on the steering wheel. His eyes shone with a teasing light. “That’s right. I had a meal with Rong Yan.”
What the hell! Is this guy trying to get her killed?
Rong Yan’s heart skipped a beat. Snapping out of her trance, she quickly interjected to explain, “I was having a meal with Lemon’s Mr. Ai, and we happened to run into Zhong Yuye. Zhong Yuye and Mr. Ai know each other, so we went over to say hello. The six of us ended up eating together.”
She deliberately emphasized the word “six,” afraid he might misunderstand.
Li Shengxiao turned to her, his noble phoenix eyes scanning her anxious face. With a fond gesture, he tapped the bridge of her nose, his low voice playful yet teasing. “Why so worked up? I know. Didn’t you message me earlier to tell me?”
Rong Yan: “…”
Why did it suddenly feel like the calm before a storm?
She recalled that she had sent her message at 2:30 PM. Did that even count as… reporting to him?
Since her attention was focused on Li Shengxiao, she hadn’t noticed the man in the car turning cold the moment he heard that line. Out of nowhere, he remarked, “I didn’t expect Mr. Li to be this childish.”
“Oh?”
Zhong Yuye didn’t elaborate. His lips pressed into a tight line, his gaze sharp as he confronted Li Shengxiao’s piercing stare.
The smile on Li Shengxiao’s face faded gradually. After a long pause, he broke the tension with a muted statement, “It’s not childish—it’s just a little reminder.”
He didn’t specify what the reminder was for, but Zhong Yuye understood. It was a warning—Rong Yan has a boyfriend!
