Chapter 1509: 1510: Calling Your Boyfriend?
Chapter 1509: Chapter 1510: Calling Your Boyfriend?
She hurriedly hung up the phone, her ears slightly burning. When she met Mrs. Qi’s curious gaze, she awkwardly put down the phone, opened her mouth to explain, but didn’t know what to say.
Mrs. Qi noticed her embarrassment and smiled understandingly, “Boyfriend?”
“…Mm.”
Mrs. Qi’s kind and gentle eyes curved in a smile. “I could tell right away that Doctor Rong was talking to her boyfriend. A girl’s expression when she speaks to someone she likes can’t fool anyone. Oh, I wonder what kind of man is so lucky to find a girlfriend like Doctor Rong. He must’ve done something great in his past life.”
Rong Yan was a little embarrassed by the compliment and waved her hand. “If anything, I’m the one who did something good in my past life.”
Compared to Li Shengxiao, she felt like she must’ve saved the entire galaxy in her past life just to meet him.
“Doctor Rong, you’re being too humble. A girl as beautiful and capable as you is the kind of person whose family doorsteps would be worn out by suitors around here,” Mrs. Qi said with a laugh, cutting off Rong Yan’s attempts to explain. “I know you’re just being modest, so I won’t say more. The bathwater’s ready—why don’t you take a bath to cool off first? I’ll go check if things in the kitchen are ready. Once you’ve finished your bath, we can have dinner.”
She handed Rong Yan a clean towel and said nervously, “This is a new towel we bought earlier and kept in the cabinet, unused. The pattern’s not very pretty—please don’t mind it, Doctor Rong.”
“Thank you, Auntie.”
Seeing that Rong Yan didn’t mind the plain design of the towel, Mrs. Qi breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, patting her hand. “Didn’t I tell you not to say thank you? Doctor Rong, you’ve done so much for our family. I’m only afraid I haven’t done enough to make your stay comfortable.”
Rong Yan said, “I haven’t felt uncomfortable in the slightest. Everyone’s been wonderful.”
Mrs. Qi, seeing how beautiful Rong Yan was yet with none of the arrogance of city girls, her voice soft, her temperament good, felt an overflowing sense of affection and gratitude for her. “That’s good, that’s good. As long as you don’t mind the simplicity of our home, that’s all that matters. Go ahead and take a bath. I’ll go check on Gouwa and the others. Those boys have been mischievous since they were young and aren’t very reliable. I don’t even know if they’re properly keeping an eye on the fire—I hope they don’t ruin the chicken soup. You’ve worked so hard tonight, Doctor Rong. I want you to drink some soup to nourish yourself.”
Growing up in the cold and distant environment of the Rong Family, Rong Yan wasn’t used to the kindness and warmth of unfamiliar elders. Faced with such gentle care, she always felt a bit out of sorts, unsure of how to respond. She paused, then spoke to the considerate and kind woman in front of her, “Auntie Qi, Chen Hai’s phone is still with me. I need to use it for a while. Could you ask him to come find me to get it later?”
Mrs. Qi didn’t think much of it and readily agreed, “Sure, I’ll let him know.”
She nudged Rong Yan along. “Doctor Rong, go take your bath now. If the water gets cold, you’ll catch a chill bathing. It gets cold in the countryside at night—don’t let yourself get sick.”
“…Okay.” Rong Yan originally wanted to say thank you, but when the words reached her lips, she changed them to a simple, less formal “okay.”
Chen Hai came to find Rong Yan after she had finished her bath, his timing impeccable—not so soon that she hadn’t yet finished, but not so late that she had to wait.
“You’re here.” The hairdryer was broken here, so Rong Yan could only use a towel to dry her hair as much as possible.
Chen Hai always lowered his head when facing her, hiding his guilt. “Mm, did Miss Rong need something from me?”
The fact that Rong Yan didn’t expose him in front of Mrs. Qi and Qiqi only made him feel more like a scoundrel.
