The gates of Zhangyi City opened as Ling Cao led his troops out. This time, there seem to be at least a third more people than usual.

“Tuoba Hai you coward! Come out and fight your grandfather for three hundred rounds!” Ling Cao stepped to the front and challenged Tuoba Hai.

“Hm?” Zhou Hai furrowed his brows before flying into a rage. He wasn’t angry at being called a coward but by being called with his Xianbei name. Without his sword, Ling Cao could no longer fight Tuoba Hai and retreated. “Tuoba Hai! You got lucky today! I will fight you again tomorrow!”

“Haha! Ling Cao! I already told you that you are no match for this grandpa! Where are you running? Come and eat my spear!” Tuoba Hai shouted and chased Ling Cao.

“General! Be careful of traps!” Tuoba Hai’s deputy general quickly gave chase when he saw his general charge forward.

“Kill!” Tuoba Hai shouted. Yangzhou’s ground troops were evenly matched with the Liaodong Cavalry as they both wore heavy armor. However, Yangzhou was retreating, giving the illusion that the Liaodong Cavalry had the upper hand.

“General! Be careful of ambushes!” The deputy general caught up to Tuoba Hai and reminded again.

“Huh?” Tuoba Hai was not a fool. His enthusiasm faded and he nodded. “Pass down the order! Stop pursuing the enemy! Count the casualties!”

“General. This must be a trick. They lose all the time but Ling Cao have not been beheaded by you!” The deputy general speculated.

“Hmph!” Tuoba Hai immediately became dissatisfied. Was the deputy general questioning his abilities?

“That Ling Cao still has some skills.” Tuoba Hai replied. This was a warning but the deputy general did not notice it. He continued to talk as though he was the God of War. “General. Look again. Every time we win the enemy only throw away their banners. They don’t throw away their armor nor do they leave behind any bodies!”

Yangzhou’s men retreated in a gradual and orderly manner. It was as though they practiced it.

“That is because Yangzhou’s men are disciplined!” Tuoba Hai was extremely dissatisfied with his deputy general. “What do you mean by this? Do you think it is funny to disregard everything we have done?”

“General. The Yangzhou Army cannot always be so well disciplined right? Ling Cao already lost over seven times!” The deputy general continued to speak. His words calmed Tuoba Hai down as his words were right. Yangzhou’s troops retreated too orderly every time as though they practiced it before hand. They even retrieved their general at the perfect moment every time. It was definitely suspicious.

However, Tuoba Hai’s vigilance ended the moment his men was finished with the headcount. They lost less than a hundred men while Yangzhou left behind a thousand corpses.

“Impossible!” The deputy general was shocked. This must be a trick. “General! This is impossible! How could you deal such great damage to Yangzhou’s army?”

“Hahaha!” Tuoba Hai laughed sinisterly. What kind of words were these? Was the deputy general saying that Tuoba Hai could not manage it with his skills?

The deputy general immediately realized he said something wrong and quickly corrected himself. “General. Listen to me. They must have counted wrong! This is absolutely impossible!” His words made Tuoba Hai’s expression even darker.

“Let’s go. Let us go and see!” Tuoba Hai could not take it any longer and ordered the messenger to take them to the bodies.

The messenger nodded and led the way. Once they were there, the deputy general gave a count and shouted. “Impossible!”

He refused to believe it. Were Yangzhou truly idiots? If this was the case, they could not have defeated the two famous generals, An Yixuan and Mo Ran.

“This is just Mo Ran’s incompetence!” Tuoba Hai smiled, pleased at the sight of his success.

“Incompetent?” The deputy general sneered. Half the reason Tuoba Hai ended up joining Gongsun Du’s army was because of Mo Ran. Mo Ran was the one that led the Zhendong Army to defeat the Tuoba Hai’s tribe. If Mo Ran was incompetent, then what were the others?

“This corpse must have been prepared by the enemy!” The deputy general realized the truth but the others would not believe it.

Are you saying that Yangzhou is so generous to leave their weapon and armor behind?” Tuoba Hai argued as he picked up a sword. Each piece was worth about a hundred gold. It was too generous to leave it all behind. Even the deputy general was shocked at this as the total would at up to a hundred thousand gold.

“I…” The deputy general did not know how to explain this.
