My Girlfriend is a Zombie

Chapter 893: Warehouse

Chapter 893: Warehouse

This was a sliding door, and judging by the material, it seemed quite heavy. A sign hung on it: “No Entry for Unauthorized Persons.”

“You can’t go in!” Xiao Yue Er was still futilely trying to stop him.

“If you hadn’t led me down here, I wouldn’t have found this place so quickly,” Ling Mo said.

Xiao Yue Er froze for a moment, then helplessly lowered her head. There was really no arguing with that…

“You haven’t been inside either?” Ling Mo asked while pressing his ear against the door to listen for any sounds.

Xiao Yue Er didn’t speak. From her expression, it was clear she wished she could swallow this peculiar fellow whole. What puzzled her, though, was how she had originally been leading him by the nose, and in the blink of an eye, their roles had switched. Moreover, she had become his captive… The more she thought about Ling Mo’s evolution level compared to hers, the angrier she became.

“Click!”

Ling Mo grabbed the door handle and pulled it hard twice, only to hear a muffled sound coming from behind the door.

“Whoosh!”

As the Iron Door was fully drawn to one side, a strange scent immediately wafted out from inside.

“Hopefully you haven’t broken all the equipment inside; that would make me very upset,” Ling Mo said after standing in the doorway for two seconds before entering with Xiao Yue Er in tow.

“Hmph…” Xiao Yue Er couldn’t help but sneer at Ling Mo’s self-talk, “What good would it do to be upset?”

“Were you always this fierce, even before you mutated?” Ling Mo asked in return, his lips curling slightly as if barely suppressing a smile. His peculiar response left Xiao Yue Er a bit confused, unable to pinpoint what exactly was wrong.

This indeed was a Low-Level zombie… but why did he seem so confident?

The little zombie had been squirming and struggling all the way, but upon entering the warehouse, it eerily calmed down, its blood-red eyes fixated straight ahead.

“What were those soldiers you had me awaken, and what’s in here? Another legion commander like you?” Ling Mo asked quietly after closing the door and cautiously glancing around.

“I didn’t ask you to wake them up, I told you, I know nothing!” Xiao Yue Er replied in a low voice.

“It’s really tough trying to get information from a zombie…” Ling Mo couldn’t help but sigh.

Compared to outside, this space was considerably larger. However, the cold concrete walls made it feel rather stifling. Numerous wooden crates were stacked everywhere, and not far from the sliding door were a couple of hydraulic hand trucks. They were stained with blood and what seemed to be fragments of clothing, along with half of a blackened shoe.

“It really is a warehouse…”

Ling Mo used his foot to flip over a rusted badge and, after glancing at it, said.

There was also a register, although its lower half was soaked through with blood, rendering the paper irreparably decayed. Ling Mo carefully turned a few pages, barely managing to identify one of the targets on this visit. ꭆ𝒶𝐍ỗ₿ЕS̩

“Old Lan’s information was spot on… Just have to see if we can find these things here.”

Ling Mo took a deep breath and walked further into the warehouse.

Xiao Yue Er suddenly spoke, “You didn’t come in here randomly.”

“What?”

“Let me think… it’s like you’re hunting for food. You came here with a purpose,” Xiao Yue Er described.

“Oh right, a Big Guy came in here before me. Why didn’t you go after him?” Ling Mo asked, surprised, immediately shifting the topic.

“Big Guy? You must mean Xiong Ji…”

“So Xiong Ji is with you too… And these names, who came up with them, anyway!”

This helped clarify things; no wonder this place didn’t seem like a typical nest, since the zombies guarding the streets were part of it too. But up until now, Ling Mo still felt that this place was different from an ordinary nest… Perhaps understanding why would explain the survivors’ interest here.

“Bang!”

In the distance, a loud crash suddenly erupted, followed closely by the furious cries of the zombie Huahua: “Ah! I’m going to cut you into pieces! Where are you, where?!”

“Mm!”

Ling Mo immediately covered Xiao Yue Er’s mouth, pushed a few wooden crates to block the door, and began inspecting the walls around them.

“Over here!”

A makeshift map of the warehouse’s layout was hanging on the wall. After studying it for a moment, Ling Mo didn’t find another exit. However, he easily located another passage leading upstairs. According to the map, this was a relatively isolated section of the building. The warehouse itself spanned three floors and was quite large, likely containing a significant amount of equipment.

The problem now was that this warehouse was clearly being used by these zombies, which left the condition and usability of the equipment in question completely uncertain.

Thinking about this made Ling Mo a bit anxious. The worst part was that his other Zombie Puppet was also nearing its limit…

“Roar!”

The butcher moved with incredible speed, its hands functioning like specialized Boning and carving knives, as it rampaged through the area. Gestation pods were crawling all around it, from top to bottom. The Infants hid within the corpses, wearing them like an outer shell. Methods like throwing weren’t effective at harming their bodies, and even served less and less to impede them.

Compared to this Zombie Puppet inside the warehouse, the one tasked with luring had already expended a significant amount of energy. Its muscles were starting to spasm, and its skin appeared to be glowing red, as if the virus within was burning rapidly. Once it ran out of stamina, these Monsters would turn around to search for the other Zombie Puppet…

“Pa Ji!”

The Zombie Puppet yelled out incoherently, causing the butcher to hesitate momentarily.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Ling Mo quickly controlled his puppet to grab a flowerpot and hurled it forcefully in that direction.

“Bang!”

The butcher only had time to raise its arm before the flowerpot shattered into pieces.

Although the butcher was unharmed, the dry soil from the pot exploded into a yellow dust cloud, enveloping both the butcher and the gestation pods behind it.

“Hiss!”

The gestation pods seemed unfazed, but the butcher howled, covering its eyes, flailing its arms wildly as it stumbled towards this direction.

“Come on.”

The Zombie Puppet drew out a piece of a stainless steel chair leg with a reverse grip, pressing itself against the corner while breathing heavily.

As long as it could leave a mark on the butcher, it could buy some more time…

The now-exposed butcher zealously followed the scent, careening forward, although its sensitivity to the environment’s layout was compromised. With each wall collision, Ling Mo could hear a dull “thud” and even feel the ground tremble slightly. One gestation pod had just crawled down from the Ceiling when the butcher stepped on it, causing the corpse to burst open and release a sharp “hissing” noise from within.

Several other gestation pods were yanked aside or even torn apart entirely, leaving behind a mess of blood and gore…

“What incredible strength…”

Ling Mo marveled to himself, gripping the chair leg tightly. This was something he had grabbed on the go while escaping; it was the best weapon he could find here. The plan itself was made on the fly, but it seemed to hold potential for success…

The butcher was easily provoked, which happened to be the key to Ling Mo’s strategy. The more enraged it became, the greater the opportunity for Ling Mo…

As the butcher approached, the Zombie Puppet roared fiercely, thrusting the chair leg forward with all its might.

“Thud!”

A tremendous force immediately surged from Ling Mo’s palm to his shoulder. He was propelled forward but landed as he intended-against another wall just a meter away. This impact braced his body and temporarily blocked the butcher’s path. As the muscles tore, the Zombie Puppet’s arms went limp, but Ling Mo gritted his teeth and let out another growl, forcefully slamming forward again before releasing the chair leg.

The butcher barreled past the corner where the Zombie Puppet had taken cover, crashing uncontrollably to the ground and rolling a distance. Though it quickly got back up, a long, twisted chair leg was now protruding from its waist. Driven a third of the way in by Ling Mo’s furious thrust, the chair leg angled upwards in a particularly gruesome manner. Combined with the momentum from the butcher’s own charge, the chair leg had become even more lethal than knives and axes.

“Roar!”

With a howl, the butcher grabbed the chair leg, attempting to yank it out.

But the deformed chair leg wasn’t easy to remove. Blood spurted everywhere and the grating sound of bone against metal echoed. It was only because the butcher was a Zombie that it could endure such agony; a human would have likely passed out from the pain instead of relentlessly trying to pull it out.

Ling Mo also noticed that the butcher’s regenerative ability seemed weaker-its blood loss was more substantial than that of typical Zombies.

“Xiao Yue Er, Huahua, Pa Ji, and even Xiong Ji, their evolution paths are all so extreme…”

Just as Ling Mo was pondering this, he suddenly felt something dripping onto his head.

He quickly looked up to see a gestation pod hanging above him, its face swollen and showing signs of decay. A large gash had split its abdomen, revealing a half-shriveled head and a mouth full of sharp teeth, all facing the Zombie Puppet. Then, it lunged at him…
