Chapter 985: The Feast on the Table
Chapter 985: The Feast on the Table
“Where did everyone go?” Yu Shiran suddenly felt perplexed.
It had been less than a second, and yet the person had vanished right under her eyes…
“Did he go back?”
It was possible! If that was the case…
“Am I just overthinking?” the Zombie Loli whispered to herself. She shifted her gaze to the open door, biting her finger hesitantly, “Should I go there? If this continues, I’ll lose track…” The little Loli was hesitant.
Unfortunately, there was no one to answer her. Ling Mo was not there, and Black Silk had fallen into a deep sleep. She called out a couple of times, but still received no response.
“Strange, why is he sleeping so deeply?” Yu Shiran muttered discontentedly.
Usually, when Black Silk was around, she found him troublesome, but now that he had suddenly gone quiet in her mind, she felt unaccustomed… like missing a playmate, or like when Ban Yue had left…
“Playmate…” Yu Shiran’s eyes suddenly became vacant, murmuring, “Right… human children have playmates… did I have one before?”
“Ah! Why am I thinking about this!” Just after speaking, she shivered, then vigorously shook her head. However, a few seconds later, she paused again, looked up vaguely, and said, “Right, why am I thinking about this? I should be thinking about Ban Yue…”
“And why isn’t Black Silk waking up?”
Questions crowded her mind.
Although still unclear, the Zombie Loli’s dim brain somehow linked her own anomaly to Black Silk’s deep sleep… but the connection was beyond her current understanding…
“I’ll find out eventually…” Yu Shiran thought somewhat bluntly.
At that moment, her body had already started moving, quickly sticking close to the wall towards the open door.
From her angle, the door seemed to be barely cracked open, and inside was a blur. Despite being very close, no sound came from inside, as if the person who went in had disappeared into thin air.
Yu Shiran “swooshed” to the door side, then carefully pushed the door open bit by bit.
As the gap widened, she silently slipped inside and immediately looked around.
At that moment, a streak of cold light suddenly appeared above her head, swiftly approaching the unsuspecting Yu Shiran…
…
“Shush…”
The corpse continued to drag forward for about a hundred meters before the Monster’s speed gradually slowed down.
Starting a few dozen meters back, the silt under Ling Mo’s feet had become sparse, eventually turning into a thick layer of mucus.
It was unclear how those Monsters’ limbs had evolved, as their traces were not visible in the silt, and they did not get stuck in the mucus. Xu Shuhan glanced at Ling Mo doubtfully along the way, then helplessly remembered he couldn’t see her, and remained silent. ṞA𐌽ôꞖÊŜ
A few seconds later, Ling Mo unexpectedly pinched her. He then pointed upwards and shook his head towards the ground.
“You mean… the Monsters are moving through the Ceiling?” Xu Shuhan quickly understood.
No wonder he used the corpse… the Monsters themselves were hanging from the ceiling, but the corpse was dragged on the ground. Following this trail, they would have a very clear marker. Even if something seemed off later, they could quickly retreat along this trace.
Ling Mo was reminding her of this. But since he pointed it out, it meant they were very close to their destination… In this darkness, there must be something she hadn’t seen, but Ling Mo had sensed…
The black fog here was so thick it was stifling, and even from Xu Shuhan’s perspective, she could only see about two or three meters ahead. This was because the Monsters had just passed by, dispersing some of the black fog.
The limited visibility undoubtedly brought a psychological sense of panic. If Ling Mo hadn’t been firmly holding her, she might have already wanted to retreat. However, the deeper they followed the Monster into the depths, the quieter the surroundings seemed.
Aside from the diverted Monsters, the remaining ones seemed to gradually fall behind.
This was an unexpected gain, but looking at Ling Mo’s expression, he seemed unsurprised…
“Right, he had mentioned… it’s not the Monsters that are important, but the space blocked by them that is crucial. Have we arrived?” Xu Shuhan couldn’t help but look around, her ears perked up to the surroundings.
If this was the crucial point, would it be a place even more terrifying than where the Monsters gathered?
“Shush…”
They stopped!
After dragging them for nearly three hundred meters, the Monster finally stopped ahead.
Ling Mo’s expression suddenly changed, he quickly pulled Xu Shuhan down to crouch, paused for a moment, then abruptly pulled her forward.
“What are you doing?” Xu Shuhan was somewhat astonished.
But unsure if the Monster was still nearby, she dared not speak out loud. From Ling Mo’s reaction, she felt this must be something very important…
In less than five seconds, they reached the corpse nearby… A faint smell of blood wafted into her nostrils, making Xu Shuhan feel slightly uncomfortable.
Ling Mo seemed to have sensed something with his psychic power, then crouched down on the spot, turning back towards Xu Shuhan and gestured for her to do the same.
“Hey…” Xu Shuhan was immediately exasperated, you can’t see of course, but I can see! Crouching down, she was staring right at the Giant God Warrior’s bloodied, headless upper body…
But judging by the scene, the Monster was probably gone?
Ling Mo seemed to take a breath, but quickly maintained a breathless state.
Was something coming? She wanted to ask.
But in fact, Ling Mo himself wasn’t sure…
As a Senser, he knew more than Xu Shuhan.
The Monster had dragged the corpse around two bends in the passage before arriving here. Along the way, Ling Mo had been using his Tentacle to measure, thus he was aware of the changes in the size of the space.
Whatever this place was, one thing was certain: it was definitely not just a passage. Perhaps, it was similar to the pool where his Zombie Puppet was located. Although it was quiet now, if this was caused by something like pool water, then it was purely dangerous.
After the Monster released the corpse here, Ling Mo guessed it was probably going to return the way it came… So his first reaction was to crouch down to avoid being accidentally touched by the Monster.
Once something touched the Tentacle he had set above, he felt relieved, stood up, and led Xu Shuhan to the corpse. If they were late, the corpse might have been gone.
Fortunately, the corpse was still there, like a dish just served, waiting for someone to come and enjoy…
Before making this judgment, Ling Mo first used his Tentacle to search the surroundings as thoroughly as possible, confirming there were no other corpses, then patiently waited here. Such exploration could at least reveal whether this place was some sort of food storage… If not, then it was definitely a dining table without a doubt.
It was quite thrilling… In the darkness, the two of them crouched next to the Monster’s dining table, quietly waiting for that big guy to come and dine…
Only, it was unknown if the Progenitor would come…
“Drip…”
A light sound suddenly came from ahead, Ling Mo’s heart tightened, and Xu Shuhan immediately gripped his hand in fear.
It’s here!
The sound was just a single one, followed by a very sharp and particularly shrill noise…
The two tensely crouched on the spot, feeling something seemed to be approaching…
