My Living Shadow System Devours To Make Me Stronger

Chapter 1166 - 1167: Search

Chapter 1166: Chapter 1167: Search

There was a desperate feeling in his chest.

When Damon stepped into the cavern, his eyes immediately caught the traces of blood and battle.

The lingering aftereffects of a black hole still distorted the air.

Golden radiance from sun magic clung faintly to the stone walls.

It was evident.

Ranar and Godric had been here.

He walked deeper into the darkness.

Soon, figures rushed toward him in hordes.

The moment they came within reach, Damon unleashed an overwhelming killing intent.

He grabbed the first one foolish enough to approach him, drove his hand into its skull, ripped its brains free, and crushed them in his fist.

The savage display brought the entire horde to a grinding halt.

They surrounded Damon from every side.

Yet...

Not a single one dared to attack.

"A girl and a boy were here."

"Which way did they go?"

His voice was cold.

His face was a mask of darkness and wrath.

His eyes were deep and sinister, and something about his presence no longer felt human.

They should not have understood his language.

Yet they did.

Likewise, Damon understood every sound they uttered.

This was the effect of Soul Tongue.

There was no language Damon could not understand.

After being corrupted by the Abyss and witnessing its endless madness, the skill had evolved.

He no longer needed to speak another race’s language.

His soul conveyed the meaning directly.

Sometimes, Damon wondered...

When Unknown and the other gods spoke...

Were they truly speaking the same language as everyone else?

Or were they simply using Soul Tongue as well?

That thought vanished as quickly as it came.

It didn’t matter.

Not now.

He could smell their fear.

Good.

They understood they would die if they came any closer.

Even so...

They still charged.

As the horde rushed forward, Damon didn’t move.

Figures clad in black armor silently stepped out of the shadows.

The next moment...

Deathly screams echoed throughout the cavern.

Blood flowed like rivers.

What should have been a battle...

...became a massacre.

The enemies they faced possessed neither emotion nor restraint.

Only cold efficiency.

They fought with perfect coordination, each movement complementing the next.

Soon the horde broke.

They turned to flee.

But Damon had no intention of letting them.

More black-armored figures emerged, sealing every exit.

Among them, shadow archers raised gleaming bows.

A rain of arrows descended.

One after another, the fleeing creatures fell.

There was no mercy.

Not even for the young.

It was simply slaughter.

Throughout it all...

Damon stood in the center of the carnage without taking a single step.

He heard every scream.

Every plea.

Every desperate cry for mercy.

Then...

Silence.

Only one faint heartbeat remained.

Hidden beneath a mound of corpses.

Damon turned toward a narrow crevice concealed beneath a mountain of mangled bodies.

Shadows rose at his command, lifting the heap of bloodied corpses and severed limbs aside.

Curled inside the crevice was a small lesser orc.

Tears streamed down its face.

The corpse of its mother lay across the entrance.

She had been the first to throw herself over the opening, hoping to hide her child from Damon’s wrath.

When the little orc saw him...

Its tiny body trembled uncontrollably.

Slowly...

It closed its eyes.

Then it raised its neck.

Offering it.

As if begging Damon to make its death quick.

Damon looked around.

Every lesser orc was dead.

This child would never survive alone in these mountains.

Killing it...

Would have been mercy.

"I don’t suppose you know where my children went."

The little creature immediately let out frightened whimpers before frantically pointing with its shaking hands, speaking in its native tongue.

"Good."

"Then show me."

The child hurriedly pointed toward a tunnel, desperately gesturing the direction they had gone.

Damon glanced at it once before his body dissolved into the shadows.

He left the child alive.

The little lesser orc stared at the place where he had vanished.

Then it collapsed onto the blood-soaked ground.

Its cries echoed throughout the empty cavern.

For the first time...

It had witnessed the true cruelty of the world.

The overwhelming might of those who walked freely within it.

No matter where one went...

No matter who they were...

The oldest law of existence never changed.

Might makes right.

Those who believed themselves hunters...

...might one day discover they had always been prey.

It was annoying.

Damon couldn’t go onto the surface of the mountain.

The skies were filled with rocs searching for him.

He could spend the time killing every last one of them...

But that was time better spent finding Ric and Ranar.

He had no interest in wasting precious moments fighting monsters.

He reached the exit of the cavern.

This was the exact path they had taken.

He could almost smell their lingering scent.

There were traces of their passage everywhere.

"Hmm..."

Damon stepped out onto the mountainside before breaking into a sprint across the jagged peaks.

The instant he appeared...

Invisible wind blades tore through the air.

Massive shadows descended from the heavens, their enormous wings illuminated beneath the pale light of the twin moons.

Damon looked up.

Several rocs circled overhead, their piercing eyes locked onto him.

"Ahh..."

He let out a weary sigh before tightening his grip on his sword.

"Just my luck."

Massive birds circled the skies.

Violent winds and raging hurricanes surrounded them on all sides.

Lightning danced between their wings, thunder rumbling through the mountains.

Before Damon could react...

A bolt of lightning descended from the heavens.

Boom!

It struck him head-on.

Almost at the same instant, a second bolt crashed into his body, sending him hurtling through the sky like a meteor.

Below, arrows shot upward.

Shadow drones emerged from behind the cliffs and loosed volleys of enchanted arrows and magical blasts into the flock, forcing the rocs to scatter for a brief moment.

It bought Damon a little breathing room.

Only...

He looked toward the distant horizon.

His expression darkened.

More shadows were rising into the sky.

More rocs.

Far more than before
