My Living Shadow System Devours To Make Me Stronger

Chapter 1175 - 1176: Nothing To Fear

Chapter 1175: Chapter 1176: Nothing To Fear

Their swords collided.

The impact sent a violent gust of wind across the mountain, scattering loose snow and dust.

Damon’s boots dug into the ground as he pushed against the creature.

The mist creature suddenly changed its grip.

Damon twisted his wrist and knocked its sword aside.

He immediately followed with a series of short, precise slashes.

One.

Two.

Three.

Four.

The creature was forced backward.

Its great sword was knocked from its hand.

Before it could react, Damon stepped forward and struck again.

The creature raised its shield.

CLANG!

Damon’s sword slammed against it.

The creature retreated several steps.

Then its body changed.

The armor dissolved.

The shield stretched.

The entire body shifted into the form of a mage.

Damon’s eyes narrowed.

"Again?"

The creature raised its hand.

A massive surge of magic erupted.

BOOM!

A wall of magical energy blasted toward Damon.

He was forced backward.

The creature immediately turned around and rushed toward the barrier.

Damon’s eyes flashed.

"Oh, no you don’t."

He raised his hand.

A concentrated blast of magic shot from his palm.

BOOM!

The attack struck the creature in the back and sent it crashing into the barrier.

Damon slowly walked toward it.

"Where are you going?"

He tilted his head.

"Please, stay."

The creature let out a distorted scream.

"AHHHHHHH!"

Its body twisted again.

The mage’s form melted away.

This time, something much taller emerged from the mist.

A towering figure stood before Damon.

It was unnaturally thin, its body covered in darkness.

In its hands was a small lamp.

Then...

The world went dark.

Damon glanced around.

Everything had disappeared into darkness.

Only the faint light of the lamp remained.

The towering figure stood beneath it, silently watching him.

Damon looked down at his Shadow Drone body.

"This body is a Shadow Drone."

His eyes returned to the figure.

"I can see in the dark."

He paused.

"Were you hoping to blind me?"

The creature tilted its head.

"No, kind traveler."

Its voice was gentle.

Almost comforting.

"It is dark here."

It raised the lamp slightly.

"Come toward the light."

Damon’s eyes narrowed.

So that was the trick.

He had encountered this type of horror before.

Creatures that used familiar voices, human gestures and false kindness to lure their prey into danger.

Damon smiled.

"Very well, then."

He began walking toward the light.

One step.

Then another.

The creature remained still.

Damon’s expression did not change.

"Show me what you can do."

A flash of light suddenly tore through the darkness.

Damon’s pupils contracted.

A beam of destructive energy shot toward his chest.

He raised his sword.

CLANG!

The blade intercepted the attack.

The force drove him backward, his boots carving lines into the ground.

Damon lowered his sword.

"Aren’t horrors supposed to follow some rules?"

His eyes became cold.

"Fine."

He suddenly vanished.

"Let me teach you mine."

Damon appeared directly in front of the creature.

He grabbed its head with one hand.

Then drove his knee into its face.

BOOM!

The towering figure staggered.

Damon did not give it a chance to recover.

He seized its head again and slammed it into the ground.

BOOM!

The mountain shook.

Damon climbed onto its chest and began raining punches down on its head.

One.

Two.

Three.

Four.

The creature screeched and thrashed beneath him.

Damon continued punching.

His fists tore through the mist, forcing it apart before the creature desperately reformed itself.

"Creatures like you thrive on being feared."

Another punch.

"After all..."

Another.

"You were born from people’s fears."

Another.

"Their darkest imaginations."

Another.

"Their worst dreams."

Damon grabbed its head and lifted it from the ground.

"But that’s all you are."

His eyes burned with cold contempt.

"I don’t fear you."

He slammed its head down again.

"No."

Damon leaned closer.

"You should fear me."

The creature screamed.

Damon’s fist crashed into its face once more.

"I am long past being afraid of monsters in the woods."

His voice dropped into a cold whisper.

"You should be the ones afraid of me."

He raised his fist.

"And you will be."

The creature suddenly changed.

Its entire body expanded.

The mist twisted violently before forming into a gigantic maw filled with rows of jagged teeth.

Damon’s eyes narrowed.

The maw snapped shut.

CRACK!

His body was caught between its jaws.

The Shadow Drone’s chest was crushed inward, its armor buckling as the enormous jaws tore through its body. Cracks spread across its frame as pieces of shadow and metal were crushed together.

Yet Damon did not scream.

His eyes remained cold and unmoving.

There was no fear.

No panic.

Not even anger.

Only an eerie calm.

"You entities are frightening because you come from a place of ignorance."

His hand slowly moved toward the creature’s maw.

"But you’re not so different from us."

Damon’s fingers dug into the mist.

"You become afraid."

He grabbed something.

"And you die."

The creature suddenly began thrashing.

Its enormous maw twisted violently as Damon reached deeper inside.

Then...

He pulled.

A strange, round insect-like creature was dragged from the center of the mist.

It was unlike anything Damon had ever seen.

Its body was pale and translucent, countless tiny limbs writhing helplessly as it struggled in his grasp.

The moment it was exposed, the entire mist creature began to convulse.

A woman’s scream echoed through the mountains.

"EEEEEAAAAAHHHHH!"

The scream was filled with desperation.

Damon stared at the strange creature in his hand.

"So this is your core."

He tightened his fingers.

The insect struggled harder.

The mist around them began to collapse.

Damon squeezed.

CRACK!

The core shattered between his fingers.

The creature’s scream suddenly became distorted.

"EEEEIIIEEEIIEIEIEI!"

Then everything went silent.

The mist creature collapsed.

Its enormous body dispersed into countless strands of fog before being swallowed by the mountain wind.

Damon released the crushed remains of its core.

His body staggered.

He looked down.

The Shadow Drone had been reduced to a mangled wreck.

A massive hole remained in its chest, and cracks covered nearly every part of its body. The regeneration of the Shadow Drone was desperately trying to repair the damage.

But the mist had left something behind.

The remnants of the creature’s power continued corroding the body from within.

Damon frowned.

"Annoying."

He took one step.

His leg nearly gave out.

He caught himself against the mountain wall.

Then he forced himself upright.

One step.

Then another.

The barrier of runes surrounding the area slowly disappeared.

Damon had no reason to maintain it anymore.

The mist creature was dead.

The mountain was quiet once more.

Damon looked toward the distant peak where Anarchy City waited beyond the mountains.

He had spent far too much time here already.

Ranar and Ric were somewhere ahead.

He had to find them.

Even if this body collapsed along the way.

Even if he had to crawl there.

He would reach them.

Damon began climbing.

His damaged body dragged itself upward through the snow, each step leaving a faint trail behind him.

His voice was barely above a whisper.

"I’m coming..."

He paused and looked toward the distant city.

"Ranar..."

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"...Ricky."
