Chapter 922: Chapter 366: Ready to Shoulder the Responsibility, Direct Confrontation

“Do you know where you went wrong?”

Director Hu Kan’s tone was serious at this moment, but the look he gave Zhou Can was clearly full of affection.

Being able to help solve issues at critical moments and avert crises makes any supervisor favor such a student.

“Please, teacher, enlighten me!”

Zhou Can vaguely guessed a bit, but in such situations, playing dumb is the best choice.

The others silently watched Zhou Can, some even had a hint of a smile on their faces.

They were very familiar with Director Hu and could tell that his criticism of Zhou Can was actually care in disguise.

“Whether you’re doing surgeries with me in Cardiothoracic Surgery or diagnosing cases, can’t you be a bit more decisive? Asking for instructions here and there, reporting everything, it’s a huge waste of time and can easily lead to missing rescue opportunities. From now on, if you’re confident about something, just go for it, be decisive, and don’t be wishy-washy.”

Director Hu gave him a stern critique.

“Understood!”

Zhou Can thought it was a good thing, allowing him to be more bold and decisive in surgeries and complex case diagnoses in the future.

Asking for too much approval indeed annoys people.

“Everyone worked hard today. Thanks to the successful completion of this surgery, the prestige of our Cardiothoracic Surgery should hold for some time. During the operation, especially during the rescue phase, everyone cooperated and united as one, which made me very pleased. I hope we can maintain this unity in the future, as only then can we lead Cardiothoracic Surgery through these challenging times.”

Cardiothoracic Surgery was indeed in a difficult situation, both internally and externally.

Just now during the rescue, a new team emerged subtly with Zhou Can at the center, which Director Hu Kan noticed.

This made him especially delighted.

The public reprimand of Zhou Can earlier was actually intentional to facilitate this. To let Zhou Can act freely in the future, gradually solidifying the surgical team.

A strong surgical team requires all-around collaboration.

“After the surgery, everyone gather in the break room for some late-night snacks. I’ve already ordered them. Director Feng, Director Dongfang, you’re both coming too.” After reprimanding Zhou Can, Director Hu Kan announced some good news that made everyone cheer.

A reward after hard work can fill every participating medical staff with happiness.

All three surgeries were completed successfully, and now there’s late-night food to enjoy, causing cheers in the operating room. Many people wore smiles on their faces.

Originally, we even invited a chief physician from Cardiovascular Internal Medicine to help, but later Zhou Can successfully diagnosed the cause, and the nurse quickly called to cancel their assistance.

Otherwise, it would have been even livelier.

“I think I’ll pass!”

Director Feng was actually an eccentric person, usually silent and always wore an expressionless face.

Because both Director Feng and Director Dongfang were of peculiar personalities, there was even a scary rumor among doctors and nurses that staying in the Anesthesiology Department for too long, with excessive exposure to anesthetics, would make one’s face stiff and lose expression.

Thus, making one’s personality even odder.

This also made it more difficult for the already challenging Anesthesiology Department to recruit people.

According to the hospital’s usual practice, since many medical colleges don’t have a specialized anesthesiology major, they directly recruit from clinical medical students when hiring.

Eventually, they developed a method of recruiting from various hospital departments.

Often recruitment targeted resident doctors or similar levels.

Bring them in, train them for a while, and they’re ready for use.

“Director Feng, skipping is not an option! During surgery, anesthetists play half the lead role. If you two don’t go, it will dampen the celebratory atmosphere. You’ve seen my health situation; every day with you is one less day.”

Director Hu Kan’s words had a hint of sadness.

His health condition was indeed concerning.

Having said so much, Director Feng could no longer refuse.

Half an hour later, the patient’s vital signs were still stable, and no abnormalities occurred in the heart.

Everyone was finally at ease.

Doctor orders had already been prepared, and the patient was moved to the Cardiothoracic Surgery monitoring room for intensive care to safely get through the critical 72 hours post-operation.

For small surgeries, eight hours post-operation is the critical period, and for slightly more important surgical sites, it may extend to twelve hours.

If it’s a major surgery, the critical period is twenty-four to even thirty-six hours post-operation.

For such high-risk major heart surgeries, the first 72 hours post-operation requires intensive monitoring. If it’s an elderly or physically weak patient with underlying diseases, the monitoring period might be longer.

Sometimes, for patients who have undergone major surgeries, out of consideration for the patient’s financial situation, doctors may transfer them directly to a general ward post-operation. However, family members don’t always follow orders, leading to postoperative complications and the patient being transferred back to intensive care.

Another scenario is when doctors recommend direct admission to the intensive care unit after surgery. Family members might not understand, thinking the doctor is just trying to make money.

Because the cost of intensive care is indeed much higher than that of a general ward.

One can only say that being a doctor is really tough.

In the break room, everyone happily ate late-night snacks.

Due to health reasons, Director Hu Kan had dietary restrictions and could only drink a bottle of milk while chatting with Director Feng in a corner.

The other medical staff sat together in a group, eating and chatting.

The young nurse sisters and doctors were the liveliest in conversation.
