Chapter 231: First Day

Chapter 231: First Day

Richard felt the cool air hit his dragon staff.

It pointed upward with resolve.

To Lilith, seeing it was like witnessing the most astonishing thing in the world.

Richard moved faster, stepping completely out of his trousers until he was entirely naked. And now, he could finally look down.

Beneath the blonde hair lay a pink crevice with a small, shimmering red opening. Richard took a deep breath at the sight; it was truly magnificent.

Countless men must have fantasized about this—Lilith’s "tunnel of love." Charles surely hadn’t spent a single day without thinking about it. Yet, in the end, Richard was the only one to see it.

Richard hadn’t even been looking for long before Lilith reached out, pulling him back into her embrace.

"It’s beautiful," Richard murmured, his hand sliding inside Lilith’s dress to caress her breasts.

Slowly, he began to remove her dress by pushing it upward. Fortunately, Lilith did not resist being stripped. She even arched her back so the dress could reach her neck, requiring only a small nudge to pull it over her head.

Every barrier between them was gone. They could feel every inch of each other’s skin as they held one another.

"The people outside surely wouldn’t guess we’ve already reached this point," Richard said before kissing Lilith’s lips again.

There was no need to rush. They could indulge in this foreplay for much longer. Richard’s hands remained restless, touching every sensitive part of Lilith’s body to heighten her arousal. Even as shy as she was, once lust took hold, she would do anything to satisfy the craving.

Richard could tell Lilith was reaching her limit by the way her breath grew hotter. He broke the kiss and smiled at her before rising slightly to spread her legs.

There was no point in delaying further if she could no longer hold back. The woman remained silent, watching him closely. She was likely wondering if a dragon staff that large could truly fit into such a small, delicate opening.

***

In the morning, Richard woke up feeling incredibly refreshed.

He still vividly remembered his first night with Lilith—the night when he had rendered the woman completely helpless.

He had been utterly merciless, to the point that Lilith had cursed him before finally falling asleep.

Richard glanced to the side and found Lilith lying with her back turned toward him, her body wrapped in a blanket.

Her blonde hair was messy, yet still exceedingly beautiful.

Richard wasn’t sure whether she was still asleep or already awake.

He leaned closer to her head and hugged her body from behind.

"Sister Lilith," Richard called out.

He felt it was still more comfortable to address her that way.

"I still want to sleep..." Lilith replied immediately, even though her eyes remained closed.

"Right, go to the hall and take over managing the kingdom for me," she added.

Richard rolled his eyes when he heard that.

Since he had accepted the position of king, whether he liked it or not, managing the kingdom was now part of his responsibilities.

He pulled back slightly and then got out of bed.

It was his first day—at the very least, he needed to show a sense of responsibility.

The first thing he did was take a bath. He cleaned himself thoroughly before putting on something comfortable yet dignified: a long, open black coat.

Many young nobles favored clothing like this, and Richard felt that it indeed suited him well.

Despite possessing a crown, Richard didn’t feel the need to wear it.

When he left the room, he was slightly surprised to see the palace steward already waiting for him.

"Your Majesty," the steward greeted him respectfully.

He no longer addressed Richard as Sir Richard.

"Your Majesty, is Her Majesty the Queen still resting?" he asked.

"Yes. She wishes to rest. The affairs of the kingdom will be handled by me," Richard replied.

Hearing that, the steward nodded. "Would you like to have breakfast first?"

"No need. Let’s go straight to the hall," Richard said. He didn’t feel the need to eat.

He was rather unmotivated to do so if he was alone.

"Very well..." The steward gestured for him to lead the way.

He followed behind Richard as they descended the stairs to the first floor.

During the daytime, the palace windows were open, allowing Richard to see the scenery outside and breathe in the fresh morning air.

He noticed that several people had already arrived at the palace. Today, most of them were knights. Richard even spotted Augus among them, as well as a short-haired red-haired woman wearing sleek armor—Emma, the one Augus admired.

"Why are the knights the ones arriving today?" Richard asked the steward.

"Today is their promotion ceremony. Your task is simply to present them with their new rank tokens," the steward replied.

"So that’s how it is..." Richard finally understood.

Before long, he arrived at the entrance of the hall.

As he stepped inside, the knights were already lined up in formation.

"Salute His Majesty the King!" the steward suddenly shouted from behind Richard.

"Greetings, Your Majesty the King!" The knights immediately saluted in unison.

Richard looked at them with a strange expression.

He was still not used to receiving such greetings.

Here, even Augus appeared disciplined and proper.

From Richard’s observation, all of them were captains. They treated one another as equals despite their differences in age—ranging from young men to those in their thirties.

With this promotion, they would become deputy commanders.

This meant they would be assigned to different locations, as the capital did not lack deputy commanders.

Some might be stationed in the capital if they were lucky or had connections.

Aside from the knights, several officials were also present, though it was clear they had come merely to observe.

Richard walked toward the throne.

With his status as king, he was naturally entitled to sit on it.

Several officials were startled when they saw him approach the throne, but none dared to comment or stop him.

Upon reaching it, he sat down directly, a faint smile on his face.

For a moment, the hall fell silent until a young official—apparently working at the palace—handed Richard a stack of golden papers.

Each sheet bore a star-shaped token displaying the symbol of a knightly rank.

They also contained the appointment orders for each captain.

Richard was slightly surprised when the first document bore Emma’s name.

He read it briefly and found that she was still assigned to the capital.

"Captain Emma, step forward," Richard called.

The short-haired red-haired female knight immediately stepped forward when her name was called.

She looked at Richard calmly, though it seemed she was concealing her true emotions.

They were not particularly close, but Emma had met Richard back when he was still unknown and had not yet left his village. Seeing him now as king stirred certain feelings within her.

"Emma, you are promoted to deputy commander and will remain stationed in the capital. Please review your duties yourself," Richard said, handing her the appointment letter along with her rank token.

Emma accepted them respectfully, clearly pleased to remain in the capital.

Even as a mere captain, being stationed in the capital was already comfortable—let alone as a deputy commander.

The other knights looked on with envy and concern regarding their own future assignments.

If stationed at the borders, they would be sent to desolate and dangerous regions.

Richard looked at the next document.

It wasn’t Augus.

"Captain Alex," he read aloud.

One of the knights stepped forward—a man in his thirties, tall and powerfully built.

"You are assigned to Star Fortress City," Richard announced.

The man, who had initially been enthusiastic, immediately looked worried. That city bordered the Holy Light Kingdom and frequently saw conflicts between the two nations.

Naturally, he could only accept the assignment unless he wished to resign as a knight, which would be considered a disgrace.

One by one, Richard continued announcing the new assignments for the captains after their promotions.

Most were indeed sent to border regions or cities in dire need of reform.

So far, Emma was the only one stationed in the capital.

Eventually, it was Augus’s turn.

Richard was slightly surprised when he saw Augus’s assigned location—it was a naval base.

The Holy Star Kingdom also possessed territories at sea, where many bases had been constructed to defend against ferocious sea beasts.

These creatures were extremely dangerous. Though they didn’t actively invade land, if they approached too closely, they could cause disasters such as massive tsunamis.

That was why the kingdom had to constantly hold them back. Since they were fighting beasts, it was essentially an endless battle.

Richard wasn’t sure why Augus had been chosen for this assignment.

The previous night, Augus had made him happy by being the first to shout for a kiss. Coupled with the fact that they were friends, Richard felt the need to change his assignment.

He called the young official over.

"Is there something you need, Your Majesty?" the official asked.

Richard handed him Augus’s assignment letter.

"Change this person’s location. I want him to remain in the capital," Richard said quietly, so only the young official could hear.

The official was startled and instinctively replied, "But—"

He couldn’t continue, as Richard immediately furrowed his brows.

Being a palace official at a young age, he naturally understood that this knight was friends with the king.

He quickly nodded and took the letter away to have it revised.

Augus and the other knights watching the scene were quite confused.

They all knew that Augus was the last one remaining, so they wondered what the king was doing with his assignment.

Was Augus being moved from a comfortable post to a difficult one—or the other way around?

The young official soon returned with a new assignment letter.

"Augus, you will remain in the capital and are promoted to deputy commander," Richard announced.

Augus, who had been somewhat anxious about Richard’s decision, immediately broke into a smile.

Despite being friends, Augus couldn’t fully trust Richard. It was possible that Richard might deliberately make things harder for him—either to push him to train harder or simply to make his life difficult.
