Chapter 239: Request
Chapter 239: Request
The octopus could not hide its shock after hearing Richard’s claims and subconsciously said, "Is your background really that impressive?"
"Do you think I’m just some random youth? Why do you think I dare to wander around alone so boldly? At the very least, the entire Land of Humans is a safe place for me," Richard replied.
Although part of what he said was nothing more than bluff, he felt quite comfortable saying it when he saw the octopus’s expression visibly soften.
It clearly seemed intimidated by such an overwhelming background.
"Young man, do you know the White Ancestor who serves as the guardian of the Skylight Clan?" it asked afterward.
Instead of calling him brat, it now addressed him as young man.
Richard raised his eyebrows in surprise.
"Of course, I know him... Is there something you need?" Richard asked curiously.
"He is the best of our kind in the Land of Humans. Unfortunately, he was once forced to swear an oath of servitude to the Skylight Grand Sovereign," the octopus said.
"Is there something you need from him?" Richard asked again, already sensing its intention.
"I want a drop of his blood for study, but it would be dangerous for me to meet him directly. He works for the Skylight Clan—I’m afraid he would force me to do the same."
"Ohhh..." Richard showed a strange expression.
"So you want me to obtain a drop of his blood and give it to you."
"Yes... If you can do that, I will give you something in return. But let’s talk about that later. It’s better for me to leave now. I’ll meet you again after things calm down."
The massive octopus suddenly vanished—or rather, it returned to its human form.
Whoosh!
After that, it departed at incredible speed.
"What could that octopus possibly give me?" Richard wondered.
He wasn’t even sure whether the White Ancestor would be willing to give his blood, even a single drop.
Shaking his head, Richard flew toward the base.
The disturbance had caused many sea beasts to flee. He wasn’t sure whether the giant whale was still at its original location.
Strangely, many soldiers at the base were still watching from afar. They clearly didn’t dare to pursue the octopus.
After all, the strongest among them were, at best, peak Lords. Rulers rarely came here.
Returning to the base, Richard entered a random building.
He needed to recover and assess his current physical condition.
Intense battles were indeed the best way to push oneself.
He could feel that he was now able to absorb more Aether and move closer to the peak.
The only problem was that he lacked the resources to increase his Aether rapidly.
’I’ll probably need around 100 High Pure Aether. If I could get 150, that would be even better so I could focus on raising my limits,’ Richard thought.
Of course, that was nothing more than wishful thinking. How could it be so easy to obtain 150 High Pure Aether?
Those could only be found in extremely dangerous places accessible only to Ancient Sovereigns.
Each one was extremely valuable, and even the Skylight Clan wouldn’t distribute them casually.
DING!
(Your affinity with the Void Element has increased from 25% to 40%!)
(Void: 40%)
"What the hell..."
Richard didn’t feel happy about the notification at all.
It wasn’t Mind Attack—which was already close to 100%—but the Void Element instead.
Of course, this wasn’t without benefits. It meant he could stay in void mode longer while consuming less Aether.
Still, he had been hoping that Mind Attack would reach 100% soon.
"It’s already night. I should head back to the capital," Richard said.
Whoosh!
He flew swiftly toward the capital.
The night was unusually quiet.
Most residents seemed to prefer staying indoors.
Yet, this calm carried an undercurrent of tension.
Although Lilith had instructed Dasmond to keep the plans of the Order of the Heaven Emperor secret—and Dasmond had indeed done so—information like this was bound to leak eventually, at least among the nobility.
After all, such intelligence couldn’t have been obtained by Dasmond alone.
When the nobles were uneasy, ordinary people naturally felt anxious as well.
Richard flew leisurely above the city.
Naturally, he headed toward the palace.
Tonight, he wanted to make love with Lilith again—the stunning blonde woman.
This was a slice of paradise on earth that he intended to enjoy.
However, upon arriving at the palace, he saw that it was still bustling with officials.
Lilith was clearly still working.
Richard remained in the air, waiting for the officials to leave.
It wasn’t until eleven o’clock that they finally departed, making Richard scratch his head several times in mild frustration.
When only the head butler remained at the entrance, Richard immediately descended.
It took him just an instant to appear before the butler, who was visibly startled by his sudden appearance.
"Your Majesty, you’re back... You startled me. Your strength seems to have reached a level capable of confusing even me," the butler said.
"Butler, you’re being too modest... I might still be inferior to you," Richard replied.
The head butler was a peak Lord. Someone like that couldn’t be underestimated, even if his combat abilities were considered average.
Richard was surprised that such a person was willing to serve as a head butler.
"You flatter me too much. I only rely on my realm and lack the combat prowess you possess..." the butler replied.
This time, Richard merely smiled and asked, "Is the Queen inside?"
"Yes, Her Majesty is still in the hall. Please, go ahead..." The butler opened the palace doors for Richard, sparing him the need to do it himself.
Richard stepped into the palace and immediately found Lilith standing before her throne, one hand resting on her chin as she pondered something.
Today, she was wearing trousers and a shirt layered beneath an open long coat. Her blonde hair flowed freely down her back, slightly disheveled, as if she had run her fingers through it countless times.
She seemed unaware of Richard’s presence at the door, only noticing him after he entered the hall.
She frowned slightly when she saw him.
"You’re back so soon. Did you already fight?" she asked.
"I defeated the Giant Black Shark, then fought the Deep Sea Octopus King—who turned out to possess an Ancestral Bloodline," Richard replied.
There was no way Lilith hadn’t heard of that octopus, but she likely didn’t know that Richard had been the one to fight it.
"Where is that octopus now?" Lilith asked after a moment of shock.
"Of course, it ran away because it didn’t want to be captured by powerful Magi," Richard replied as he walked toward her.
"Hmph. You should have prevented it from escaping and kept fighting until the elders arrived," Lilith said, clearly displeased.
"That octopus was too strong," Richard replied with a smile, placing his right palm on Lilith’s left waist.
