Chapter 288 288: Teleportation Arcane Art
Chapter 288 288: Teleportation Arcane Art
Why was he asking about his age?
Countless speculations arose in Richard's mind.
He felt slightly nervous, but still answered, "I should be around seventeen… or maybe already eighteen…"
He wasn't even sure himself, since he had never kept track of it.
"I see, still very young… Dive into this lake," the Crimson Grand Ancestor replied.
"Eh?"
Richard was confused.
Why was he being told to dive into the lake?
"You can do so as long as you are still in the Lord Realm at the age of seventeen. That is the minimum requirement to dive down there. There is something left behind by our founding father," the man explained briefly.
So that was why he asked about his age—none of Richard's earlier guesses were correct.
"Really? So that's the requirement to dive into this lake? No wonder no one has been able to. Grandfather, what did the founding father leave behind?" Carla immediately asked.
"A resource that helps break limits and makes future breakthroughs far easier—far superior to the Earth Wine of the Calamity Grand Ancestor. There are several down there, but each person can only take one…" the Grand Ancestor answered.
"There's such a thing?" Carla was stunned. "Can I get one too?"
"If you reach the Lord Realm at seventeen… But I doubt you'll make it—you're almost past that age."
"No, I will succeed… I'm already close."
Carla was filled with determination.
Meanwhile, Richard looked at the Crimson Grand Ancestor with hesitation.
"Are you sure? If it was left by your founding father, shouldn't it not be given to outsiders?" he asked.
"It doesn't matter whether you are an outsider or not… Anyone can obtain it as long as they meet the requirements—and I permit it," the Grand Ancestor replied indifferently.
Hearing that, Richard felt excited, though on the surface he only nodded calmly.
"Thank you for your trust, Grand Ancestor," he said.
"Go!" the Grand Ancestor waved his hand.
Whoosh!
Richard leapt into the lake, diving down without encountering any resistance.
He had thought it was just an ordinary lake, yet even Carla had said no one had ever managed to dive to the bottom.
Since he succeeded, it meant he was indeed still seventeen.
The lake was quite deep, though not excessively so for someone of his level—only about a hundred meters.
Soon, Richard saw the bottom, illuminated by red crystals scattered across it.
Several golden grasses were rooted there, appearing lifeless yet somehow indestructible.
He saw nothing else.
Those grasses gave off a mysterious aura, though he couldn't analyze them further.
They must be the resources the Crimson Grand Ancestor had mentioned.
For a great force like the Order of the Crimson Veil, it was only natural to possess such treasures.
Resources that helped break limits.
If such things weren't rare, Richard wouldn't have struggled so much before.
Previously, he had only obtained Earth Wine.
The Calamity Grand Ancestor had nearly cried when giving it to Carla, showing how difficult it was to produce.
But these grasses were clearly superior.
Richard picked one—and suddenly, he was pushed upward at high speed.
Splash!
He emerged from the lake, holding a single golden grass in his hand.
With a step, he landed beside the Crimson Grand Ancestor and Carla.
"Eat it… It won't last long outside the lake…" the Grand Ancestor said.
Hearing that, Richard immediately put it into his mouth.
He didn't even chew—he swallowed it whole.
It tasted incredibly sweet, like honey.
But the moment it reached his stomach, Richard's eyes widened as a burning sensation spread throughout his entire body.
It was hot—painful—like his flesh was melting from the inside.
"Endure the pain. The better you endure it, the better the effect," the Crimson Grand Ancestor said.
Richard had no choice but to grit his teeth.
He sat down, clutching his head.
For someone like him, who relied on the System, suffering like this was rare.
But thanks to his unique power, he maintained control—his heart and mind screamed, yet he remained steady.
And the effects were real.
The limits that had restrained his absorption of Aether shattered one after another, and Aether poured into his body—faster still due to the presence of moonlight energy.
He couldn't even measure how much was entering him.
He focused entirely on enduring the pain—no, on maximizing the result.
If not for the screaming of his mind and heart, he felt the result might have been even greater.
But regardless, what mattered was the improvement—and more importantly, the lasting effect that would make future breakthroughs easier.
That was the key.
Perhaps his ability to break limits was already far beyond others, but for faster progress, it still needed to be enhanced.
Boom!
After an unknown amount of time, the pain finally subsided.
Calm returned.
He began absorbing the Aether infused with moonlight.
In the Holy Star Kingdom, this would no longer be possible—the moonlight there was blocked by the massive ark of the Order of Heaven Emperor.
When he could no longer absorb any more Aether, he checked his stats.
[Magic Realm: Lord]
[Aether: 50,000 / 500,000 <Tier 3>]
[Aether Accumulation: 335,000 <Tier 3>]
Only ten percent…
He was stunned—but didn't dare say it aloud.
It was already a significant gain, but how could he be satisfied?
He had hoped for at least twenty percent, especially considering the pain he endured.
Even so, he could only accept it, turning his gaze back to the Crimson Grand Ancestor.
"Are you alright, Brother Richard?" Carla asked.
"Yes, I feel fine now," Richard replied.
Once the pain disappeared, there was nothing left—he felt completely refreshed and normal.
"Thank you, Grand Ancestor. I owe you and the Order of the Crimson Veil a debt…" Richard said.
"There's no need for thanks now—only if you become a Grand Sovereign," the Grand Ancestor replied coldly.
Richard simply smiled.
"Come on, Brother Richard, let's go to my place…" Carla said.
The Grand Ancestor frowned slightly upon hearing that.
"Carla, as a woman, you shouldn't bring a man to your private residence," he said.
This had happened once before, seven years ago—but back then, Carla had only been a young girl.
Now it was different.
She was an adult—and the man she wanted to bring home was her peer.
More importantly, the Grand Ancestor knew just how much his granddaughter admired Richard.
Back then, stories about Richard were all she ever sought.
"Grandfather, I just want to help Brother Richard obtain my teleportation Arcane Art. It belongs to me—I'm free to give it to anyone…" Carla replied.
"Come on, Brother Richard…" she said, already flying off.
Richard pretended he had no choice but to follow, giving a respectful nod to the Grand Ancestor before leaving.
Carla's residence was no longer the same.
It had become a magnificent castle—though not overly large, and clearly newly built.
Even so, there was no one else around.
For a castle, Carla didn't seem to need any servants.
Inside, it was rather simple, without many decorations.
"Brother Richard, it's in my room," Carla said.
"I'll wait here," Richard replied when she suddenly fell silent.
Of course, it felt strange. He couldn't help but suspect she had some ulterior motive in bringing him to her room, which was why she didn't suggest waiting in the living room.
Carla nodded at his words and walked toward the stairs leading to the second floor.
Richard let out another sigh and sat down on the sofa.
Carla didn't take long. When she returned, Richard saw a dull silver slab in her hand.
She hurried over as she brought it down.
"Take a look, Brother Richard. Maybe you can find another secret… If you want that Teleportation Arcane Art, just touch it while thinking about absorbing something from within it," Carla said as she handed the silver slab to him.
He accepted it.
It was light, yet cold, and felt solid.
Just by touching it, Richard couldn't sense anything at all.
He tried to absorb it into his Storage Artifact, only to find that it failed.
It felt as though it was too heavy to be absorbed.
What about the Dragon Hall, a Hidden World?
Richard tried transferring it into the Dragon Hall, only to encounter the same failure.
He frowned.
From his own perception, the object seemed too powerful to be contained within the space of a Storage Artifact or even a Hidden World.
It was like a massive object whose size exceeded the capacity of that space—naturally, it couldn't fit.
Did that mean this silver slab was actually a high-grade material?
After investigating for a while and still finding nothing, Richard finally did as Carla suggested.
Instantly, a piece of information entered his mind.
DING!
(You have obtained Teleportation Arcane Art!)
(Your mastery of Teleportation Arcane Art has increased from 0% to 1%!)
[Arcane Arts:
Mind Attack (100%)
Dragon Fist (100%)
Teleportation (1%)
'So this is how it works,' Richard thought, finally understanding the nature of teleportation.
Things were not as simple as he had imagined.
1% mastery was practically nothing—just the ability to establish a connection with space.
To teleport like Carla, he would need at least 10% mastery. Even then, it wouldn't be easy to execute—it would require even higher mastery to truly match Carla.
Yet even Carla herself had complained about how much energy it consumed.
