Chapter 1300: The Old Hunter (Part 2)

The explosion was large, allowing a wave of heat to pass through all of those there; the hunters had even been hit by part of a shockwave while the dome was shaking. The leaves of the various plants continued to rustle.

When Joy looked back at the situation, all she could see was smoke and dirt covering the area.

"No…no, it can't be, that has to be Cooper, right? That had to have been Cooper!" Joy shouted. "Why…why did you do that, why did you do that!!!! Grandad!" She fell to her knees because she knew that Cooper was gone.

Joy had always been around Cooper for more of her life than less of it. Both of her parents had been killed by Altered beings, and in turn, she had to live with her grandfather for a while.

It was that day that she had hated Altered beings and the whole concept of them. Why did people want to be them? Why were they revered as celebrities, when there were those like her who were suffering because of what Altered did?

It made her sick; the only thing was she didn't realise that her Grandfather was even more hurt by what had happened. He had already been an Altered hunter, keeping it from Joy as a secret for the longest time.

The fact that his dear child was taken away from him only cemented his anger. Still, Cooper never had planned to bring Joy into the world of Altered hunting; it was only because of her own actions he had done so.

Her hatred for Altered, she wasn't shy about it. Constantly talking about how much she hated them in school, and calling out those that loved the Altered fighting championships, it caused her to be on the receiving end of several punches and kicks, as well as becoming an outcast.

For Cooper, teaching her the way of the Altered hunter, it was just for her to protect herself, until it had fully led her to joining the hunters, but she saw everything her grandfather did for her, so as he aged she went on every mission with him, protecting him anyway she could.

During the time she spent with Cooper, she did notice something. Whenever the two of them would head out on more dangerous missions, Cooper would change the equipment, particularly around his belt.

Although this was quite common to change equipment due to the difficulty of the mission, she had never seen the difference of items that were used. Noting what the round objects on his belt looked like, she had decided to do her own research, and she had come across what they were.

The Non-Lethal Weapons Act passing had caused for the loss of powerful explosives as well as guns. This included particular explosives, but people were still able to make makeshift ones from time to time; they were just considered illegal, and people were heavily punished for it.

Looking into it, she learned that the items around Cooper's waist were powerful explosives. She never assumed why he only brought them on dangerous missions and why he had never used them before, but now it had clicked.

It was if he ever needed to sacrifice himself, if he ever needed to get rid of his life, so he could protect those around him, so he could protect Joy.

Joy reached out her hand, and as the dust started to settle, she could only see parts of flesh scattered around the area. There was nothing left of him, nothing that was recognisable, and worst of all, Luzen was seen still standing; patches of his skin had been torn off.

But as he stood there, the rest of his body was still healing.

Blackjack had moved back from the area to group up with the others; his hand was on his stomach because blood was still coming out from the wound.

"That old man, he didn't have to do that!" Blackjack said. "Crap..crap..My body's not healing."

The worst thing for vampires when fighting against Werewolves was the wounds that they received wouldn't heal, but it wasn't the same the other way round. Unless a vampire had lived a long life, trained to grow stronger, it was hard, almost impossible for those at the same level of strength to beat a werewolf.

And, Luzen was even stronger than Blackjack.

"No, no, Cooper can't have died and he still lives standing there!" Joy shouted as she gripped her sword. "We have to get him, we have to get rid of him, Blackjack help me!"

She knew it was an impossible task on her own; the others had been hurt, and Blackjack was something extraordinary, but in her pain, she was ignoring all of the wounds that were on his body, he was already at a loss, he couldn't fight anymore.

"Luck can only take you so far, and looks like I lost out on this one."

Luzen went to grab his bow behind his back, until his sensitive ears heard a sound. He looked up and he could see the glass shattering from the garden. Falling down were two figures from the sky.

Immediately he placed his bow upward and fired out the silent shots. However, a wave of red aura had come out, matching all of the arrows and breaking it apart, making it so not a single one would touch them.

The thing was, the person didn't even know about the arrows, or that he was being attacked, all of it was just due to his luck of the situation, and finally, the two landed on the ground.

"I heard…that there was a young Werewolf here to see me," Edvard said with Roland by his side.
