Chapter 1367: Learning Qi (Part 4)

Chapter 1367: Learning Qi (Part 4)

There were now a total of four days left until the next full moon for the group. The tension in the air reminded Gary all too much of the first time he’d ever transformed.

Back then, he had no idea what was coming, had feared what would actually happen on that day, and above all, felt like most of it was completely out of his control.

He had mostly given up on trying to stop his body from transforming through the use of Qi. It had been a useless effort that wouldn’t warrant much in the way of results.

Now that he had learned to somewhat handle the Warhammer, Gary had taken his practice farther afield, away from the manor.

Because this time, he needed to take what he’d learned and apply it to the weapon itself, adding Qi to it, drawing power back from it, and learning how to master the skills of the weapon itself.

Innu was still there to observe, but Kevin, Xin, and Kanu had decided to head back to where some of the others were training.

They had already done all they could to help with the current situation.

“No, no, no, you idiot!” Innu shouted at Gary as he watched him swing the hammer, summoning and de-summoning it again and again.

Gary was attacking the air, and at the end of each strike, the Warhammer would appear in his hands.

He’d realized that this also acted as a neat trick, if his opponents thought he was going to come up short, the hammer could suddenly extend, smashing them in the face.

“Alright, wait, let’s go back to the basics first,” Innu said, exhaling. “Hold the Warhammer and use your Qi with the weapon. When you can feel its energy flowing back into you, that’s what you need to hone in on.”

“Then,” he continued, “you need to activate that feeling as fast as possible.”

There was a slight issue with the way Gary used the Warhammer at the moment. Since his Qi control wasn’t exactly the best, it took him time to activate the flow into his hands.

But by constantly letting go of the weapon, de-summoning and summoning it again, he couldn’t properly draw out the full power of the weapon.

As Innu continued to watch, something clicked in his mind. He snapped his fingers.

“Wait, I think I’ve got it! There’s one more part of your body where you should learn not to transform!” Innu said, grinning.

“There is?” Gary was a little reluctant to trust Innu.

Although Innu had helped teach him so far, his explanations and ideas were always… well, a bit lacking.

“Your ear!” Innu claimed, eyes lighting up.

“My ears? But what use is that? Why would I learn to control Qi in my ears?” Gary asked, frowning.

“Can’t you see? The issue is that the flow of Qi is being interrupted when it reaches the weapon!” Innu explained. “So the best thing for you to do is learn how to control Qi in your ear.”

“These are the two contact points you’ll always have with your weapon. If you’re already using Qi with it as an earring, then maybe, just maybe, it might work with this as well.”

Gary was happy to give it a try, because, honestly, he didn’t have any better ideas.

“The arms were hard but that’s because they’re long and I use them all the time, so the ear’s can’t be that hard, right? Right?” Gary asked.

Inside the manor itself, Kai was sitting at the dining table. A full plate of food sat in front of him, completely untouched.

“You’re thinking too much,” Marie said softly as she came over.

“Was it that obvious?” Kai asked, managing a small smile. “I’m just worried. There’s been no movement from anyone yet, and the big day is coming.”

“Of course, it could go just fine,” he added, “but… in a way, I kind of want something to happen this month.”

“What?” Marie nearly choked on her water. “If nothing happens, isn’t that a good thing?”

Kai shook his head slowly.

“You might think that at first, but honestly, it’s not. Because the issue is still the same. The problems with the vampires, the trouble we face on the full moon, and Unzoku…”

“If nothing happens this month, then every month we’ll have to live in fear, thinking that something could happen. It will put a huge toll on everyone’s mind.”

Marie gently rubbed Kai’s back.

“You mean just like how it’s putting a toll on your mind now, too. Kai, don’t take everything on yourself.”

“You’ve told me time and time again, there’s a reason why Gary is the leader. If nothing happens on the full moon and we need to get through to the next month, then we’ll do it. He’ll do it.”

“Besides,” she added, gesturing around, “look at us, even on the day of the full moon, we have plenty of people willing to come at a single call. People from all over, all types, willing to help us.”

Kai smiled. He had to admit, he’d been surprised by how many people had answered the call and decided to come here.

But deep down, he knew the real reason why, they were all here because of Gary. That was the key difference between him and Gary, and it was the reason why Gary was the leader, and he wasn’t.

“Sir, it appears you have a visitor,” one of the butlers announced as he entered. “He is waiting by the gate and goes by the name… Blackjack.”

Kai’s heart started to beat intensely.

Finally, someone had made a move, and it looked like it was the vampires.
