Chapter 1439: The Howl That Shook the Pack

The Howl That Shook the Pack

Blood splattered across Ghost’s figure, finally revealing where he was. The moment caught even him off guard. He hadn’t expected it, hadn’t even realized where the blood had come from.

When he had slashed through both Kevin and Park, he’d done it at such speed that droplets of blood had flung from his claws. He was careful to make sure no trace remained behind. It was one of the reasons he attacked the way he did, fast and precise, to maintain the invisibility provided by the cloth he wore.

But now, blood clung to his body. Worse, it stained the very item that had made him disappear: the specialized cloth that allowed him to vanish in plain sight.

Midwak had known about Ghost’s item. During his time back in Ruin City, he’d made it his mission to observe and record every Ironfang’s power and ability.

At the time, he didn’t know exactly why he was doing it, only that remaining with Lupus had begun to leave a bitter taste in his mouth. If he ever needed to escape the Lupus group, he had to be prepared for the worst. And if they sent anyone after him… it would be Ghost.

Earlier, Midwak had acted quickly. After noticing Park’s injury, he had thrust his hand into Park’s wound and let his own blood mix with it, just in case the healing wasn’t enough. And if that failed, he used his own fangs, biting into his thumb, flinging both hands outward, spraying blood where he hoped Ghost would be.

That was the result: Ghost, caught in red, exposed.

Startled and briefly distracted, Ghost didn’t realize Olivia’s whip had wrapped tightly around his leg. She pulled with everything she had, trying to make him slip and fall.

But Ghost’s strength was overwhelming.

He didn’t budge.

Still, it gave Midwak the chance he needed. Drawing all his energy into his body, he surged forward and tackled Ghost head-on, gripping tightly and refusing to let go.

“I didn’t always hate the Lupus group!” Midwak shouted through gritted teeth. “I used to be proud of what we were doing, of what we were trying to become. But look at you now… look at what you’re doing!”

A sharp pain seared through Midwak’s shoulder.

Though he couldn’t see Ghost, he could feel him. Teeth sank into his shoulder, creeping dangerously close to his neck. Midwak used both hands to push back, resisting with every ounce of strength he had, preventing Ghost from biting deeper.

“Our lineage, our race, has always decided things through strength. Not cowardly tricks. You’re an embarrassment!” Midwak screamed.

That was when Xin sprang into action. She leapt through the air and landed a clean kick right into Ghost’s face. Though his form was still barely visible, his hold on Midwak had given her just enough of a target.

Midwak felt the pressure lift from his shoulder. He didn’t hesitate.

Using every muscle in his body, he slammed a punch from one side, then followed with another from the opposite. His fists collided with solid resistance. With a third, he finally felt it, a full impact that connected.

But Ghost struck back.

A quick, brutal punch smashed into Midwak’s face, sending him flying backward. Xin leapt forward for another kick, but this time, she was caught midair. Ghost grabbed her ankle and slammed her body down into the concrete with such force that the ground cracked beneath her.

She gasped and coughed, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth.

Before anyone could react, Olivia lashed her whip again. But Ghost was ready.

He caught it.

And then, thunk thunk thunk, several sharp nails burst out and embedded themselves into Olivia’s body.

She barely had time to cry out before a crushing force slammed down on her, slamming her body into the ground like Xin. The concrete split under the impact.

They were strong.

But Ghost, in his fully transformed werewolf state, was stronger, faster, deadlier. And it was finally starting to show.

Ghost ripped off the now-useless invisible cloth, letting it shrink as he tucked it around his mouth instead. No longer hiding, he stood tall among the broken bodies of the Howler members.

None of them were moving. None of them were capable of standing. But thanks to their werewolf resilience, they weren’t dead.

At least, not yet.

Ghost turned to Midwak, who lay groaning on the floor.

“You really think doing the same thing over and over will lead us to victory?” Ghost said, stepping closer. “Ylva saw the truth, that we needed change. Real change. More than Lupus ever dared to embrace.”

He paused, eyes narrowing.

“And it seems she even managed to convince him. If someone as stubborn as Lupus could see that, I’m shocked you couldn’t.”

As Ghost drew closer, every one of the fallen Howlers lifted their heads to look at him. A single, terrifying question ran through their minds.

Should we transform?

They had made a vow. None of them had broken it, despite the pain, despite the threat. No one really knew what would happen if one of them broke the pact.

But from what they understood… the moment one transformed, it would affect them all.

It would destroy everything Gary had built. It could weaken their unity, even cause the downfall of the pack.

They would rather die than be the ones responsible for that.

Even if it meant perishing anyway.

“I just wish you could understand what we’re about to achieve,” Ghost said, gazing down at Midwak. “I wish you could see it for yourself.”

But then,

A howl.

A powerful, piercing sound ripped through the sky.

It echoed across the city, sending chills through the air.

Ghost froze in his tracks.

“What the…?”

“Confused?” Midwak said with a weak, bloody smile. “Yeah… I felt it too.”

He pushed himself up just slightly, enough to speak.

“Looks like it’s no longer just our two groups in this fight anymore.”
