Chapter 1441: The Calm of the Luna
Chapter 1441: The Calm of the Luna
There were a hundred questions swirling in their minds now that Marie had finally appeared, and in her full Luna form, no less, but before they could dive into that, the priority was making sure everyone was okay.
Park had already managed to heal the wound he sustained during the battle and had recovered enough energy to help the others. Working quickly, he directed the group to a nearby furniture store, its windows already shattered during the chaos. Without hesitation, they ushered everyone inside.
No one cared about the broken glass. Not now. The situation was urgent enough that anyone would understand.
Inside, they laid the injured across scattered sofas and armchairs. Makeshift beds, but they would do. Kevin, Olivia, and Midwak were being tended to first. Xin had been hurt as well, though not as severely. She insisted Park prioritize the others. Once everyone was settled, Park placed his hands over them and activated his healing abilities, a warm, steady energy spreading across each of their bodies.
When at last they had a moment to breathe, it was time to ask the questions that had been clawing at the back of their minds.
“You’re really Marie, right?” Xin asked, staring up at the glowing Luna Werewolf before her.
“Yes,” Marie replied, her voice laced with power and a strange sense of peace. In her current Luna form, her aura seemed to hum with energy. It was clear she couldn’t revert to her human self, not without an Alpha present to break the transformation.
“So… seeing as you’re in Luna form,” Midwak said cautiously, “I’m guessing Kai is the one who triggered it?”
“Wait, seriously?” Park added, even as he continued focusing on the healing. “I thought you two were like… siblings?”
Marie let out a soft laugh. “It turns out,” she said, “there are other ways to activate the Luna and Alpha forms besides a kiss.”
That revelation stunned the group into silence for a moment.
“There’s a lot that happened,” Marie continued. “Things moved quickly, and honestly, I wasn’t sure what would come of it. But then I sensed a powerful Werewolf presence in this area, one that felt unstable. I came here just in case it turned out to be someone on a rampage. I didn’t expect to find you all.”
Xin couldn’t stop looking at Marie’s form. Both of them had inherited the Titan Vanguard Class, and that meant their Luna transformations would be nearly identical, both in appearance and in raw potential.
But there was one stark difference.
Because of the restrictions placed on the Howlers, Xin had never been able to draw out the full power of her Moonforged Body skill. She could feel it inside her, latent, restrained. Seeing Marie like this was like seeing what she herself could become… if she were truly free to transform without limits.
And the truth was, Marie hadn’t always been able to access this level of strength either. Not when she had been bound to the Howlers.
Not without one of the most vital, and dangerous, abilities granted by the Lunar Sentinel class.
[Loyal Fang]
Damage increases proportionally to the number of allies nearby. The Sentinel becomes more powerful the more they have to protect.
Kai’s vow to Gary still lingered in Marie’s mind, his promise to never create a pack of his own. They had both feared what such a force might become, a group strong enough to one day rival Gary’s rule.
Because of that, both of them had been locked out of the true potential of their transformations. The Lunar Sentinel Class, for all its might, required one vital condition to be met.
The Luna had to have someone, or many, to protect.
Without a pack, the class could never be pushed to its limit.
“I still don’t get it,” Olivia said, her voice a mix of curiosity and wariness. “How are you so calm right now? I thought on the night of the full moon, all Werewolves had to transform… and go into some kind of bloodthirsty rage.”
“There might be one exception to that rule,” Midwak chimed in before Marie could answer. “And that exception is the Luna.”
He looked toward Marie, studying the glow that shimmered across her black fur.
“In the first place, the Luna was meant to be the counterforce to the Alpha,” Midwak continued. “Her true form is one of calm, not rage. Even on the night of the full moon, the Alpha doesn’t fully transform on their own, it’s the Luna that helps trigger it. But when the Luna takes her true form first…”
He paused for effect.
“There’s a calming effect. One powerful enough to soothe the Alpha… and maybe even those around her. I’m sure you all can feel it.”
They could.
Everyone in the room felt it, the strange sense of serenity that radiated from Marie. Even though she was from a different pack, her presence brought a stillness to their hearts. Her voice, her aura, it softened the fear and tension hanging in the air. It made them feel… safe.
Maybe this, too, was part of the reason why a Luna could sometimes bond with members of other packs, or even draw them in.
But for now, one thing was certain: Ghost had been defeated.
Midwak, ever the scavenger, had already taken the invisibility mask from the Ironfang’s corpse. Without a word, he handed it over to Kevin.
“Me?” Kevin asked, blinking in surprise. “Shouldn’t one of you take it? You’re all stronger than me.”
“You’re small,” Midwak said, smirking. “And you pack a punch. Besides, using a sneaky item like that? That’s not really my thing. You, though… you can use it to fight smart, or run when you have to.”
With Park’s healing complete and the team finally regaining their strength, they regrouped and made a quick decision. Returning to the manor wasn’t an option anymore. Not with the situation escalating. Now that Marie had joined them, the best course of action was clear.
They needed to head straight to where Gary was.
Reinforcements were coming, and when they did, things would turn chaotic fast. Every fighter would count. And if Gary was about to face what they suspected, then he needed all the help he could get.
But just as they were preparing to leave, Xin’s eyes widened with realization.
“Wait a second…” she said, her voice sharp. “Marie… you’re in your true Luna form, right?”
Marie tilted her head in acknowledgment.
Xin’s heart skipped a beat.
“Then doesn’t that mean… Kai is in his true Alpha form too? Where is he? Where’s Kai right now?”
