My Werewolf System

Chapter 1446: The Right Moment

Chapter 1446: The Right Moment

“Wait, do you even realize what you just said?” Marie’s voice rose in pitch, her cheeks flushing a deep red. “You know the Luna is supposed to be the Alpha’s partner... You know what you’re asking, right? And for Gary and Xin to transform, the two of them, they had to... to kiss!”

“I meant it when I made that promise to Gary,” Kai replied firmly. “That I wouldn’t create any more Werewolves. That there would be no other Pack. No new Alpha. No new Beta. Nothing.”

He took a step closer, his tone steady but his eyes unflinching. “So, you’re my only choice. I’m not going to force you into anything, Marie, but just you becoming the Luna, it’ll help the others. It’ll help us. I’m sure it will give you a boost in strength for what’s coming. Then, maybe we can figure out if there’s another way to unlock our true form without... the usual method.”

If it were simply a matter of becoming Luna in name and gaining a power boost from it, Marie couldn’t deny it made sense. The only issue was... unlike Gary, who had the system to guide him, Kai had nothing like that. The two of them would be navigating this path blind.

Still, if there was anyone she trusted to be Alpha, it was Kai.

He had something rare, an almost instinctive understanding of his abilities, like a sixth sense. And he’d already done everything he could to gather information from Midwak, piecing together whatever scraps of knowledge there were about the Luna and Alpha bond.

A lot of the way Werewolves operated came down to three things: will, touch, and ritual.

If a Werewolf had the will to act, the physical connection through touch, and the right words to bind it together, the link could be forged. The will, however, was always the most important part.

And Kai... Kai’s will was ironclad.

He reached forward, placing his hand gently on top of Marie’s head. The warmth of his touch carried more than just heat, it was intent, focused and unwavering.

For Marie, the change was almost immediate. It was subtle at first, a faint pull deep in her core, then a steady thrum of energy that seemed to respond to his presence.

Once the connection was formed, Kai stepped back, his mind already shifting to what came next.

Now that she was Luna, they had to test it.

From what they knew, the Luna had the unique ability to awaken the Alpha’s True Form. But there was a catch, activating it came with its own dangers.

When the Alpha entered their True Form, they were consumed by a bloodthirsty frenzy, much like a Werewolf on the night of a full moon. Only the Luna could calm the Alpha... and if she failed, the Alpha could become uncontrollable.

Which led Kai to believe something else, something important. Didn’t that mean that while the full moon was out, the Luna would remain calm?

It didn’t solve everything. It wouldn’t fix the chaos with the rest of the pack. But when it was just the two of them... it solved half their problems instantly.

Thankfully, the two had worked out a much simpler way to activate the True Alpha form. Kai had taught Marie the key elements, will, touch, and words. If they kept those three things in mind, all it took was for them to hold hands, focusing their intent together, and the transformation could be triggered on command.

They’d already tested it once.

A trial run, just the two of them. Their powers surged, their forms shifting into Alpha and Luna. Marie made sure to stay sharp, watching for any sign of Kai losing control, but she was quick to bring him back. In a matter of moments, they both returned to normal.

Now Marie understood why Kai had thought ahead to bring food up here. These trials burned through energy fast, and he’d made sure they wouldn’t be running on empty.

“That felt... different,” Marie admitted, catching her breath. “Your True Alpha form... if you hadn’t done exactly what we agreed on, I don’t think I would have been able to keep up with you.”

“That’s something I didn’t expect either,” Kai said with a small nod. “But that’s why we test things first. Now we’ve got all the pieces we need to start putting together a real plan.”

When they were done eating, the two sat under the shade of one of the massive trees. The air was cool, but Marie’s mind was still turning, picking apart Kai’s strategy for holes.

“So,” she began slowly, “on the night of the full moon, we starve ourselves so we don’t transform right away. Then, after a few hours pass, we head toward the cabin. Just before we get there, you want me to activate our True Alpha and Luna forms. You eat the food we’ve stashed, get your strength back, and then rush off to help the Howlers in battle. But... while you’re in that frenzy, won’t you still be dangerous?”

“You’re right,” Kai said. “But I’ve got a few guesses about how things might work. There’s a reason we decided to stay close to Slough.”

He leaned forward slightly, his tone turning more certain. “My guess is Gary and the others will use Tom’s formula to mask their scent and buy themselves some time. With another Alpha nearby, my own instincts will take over. In my True Alpha form, my body will naturally draw me toward the other Alpha.

“They keep saying it’s destiny, fate, whatever you want to call it. Fine. We’ll use that to our advantage.”

Marie tilted her head. “If that’s the case, then why not just transform as soon as the full moon rises?”

“Because,” Kai explained, “there’s a chance I’d end up causing Gary and the others even more trouble. We’re only doing this because we have to.

“Even if I show up, help them, and beat whoever they’re fighting, and even if you manage to reach me in time to calm me down, I’ll still be in a frenzy for the rest of the night. The full moon doesn’t let go that easily.

“That’s why timing matters. We need to wait for the right moment, not just jump in blindly. Of course...” he let out a short breath, “there’s a chance I’m completely wrong. But if we don’t try, the Howlers have no chance of winning this fight.”
