Chapter 1505: The Rise of a Greater Threat
Chapter 1505: The Rise of a Greater Threat
The realization that a large-scale battle had ended rippled across the field like a silent shockwave. No words were exchanged, yet every fighter, Altered and Werewolf alike, felt the same shiver in their bones. Something had shifted. Something was wrong.
Of all those who noticed, Gary was the most shaken. His instincts screamed, piecing together the same dreadful conclusion that Kai had already voiced earlier. If Don had fallen, if he had truly lost his fight, then what came next was inevitable.
What would happen if Lupus consumed him?
Don wasn’t just strong, he was an Altered who had reached heights few could dream of. If a monster like Lupus devoured that kind of power, the battlefield would change forever. Even if it didn’t grant Lupus a new form, even if it didn’t enhance his elemental techniques, Gary knew it would give him something far worse, an unimaginable boost in strength.
Forcing every ounce of energy left in his broken, battered body, Gary drew in a breath and let it out with all the force he had. His voice tore across the chaos, echoing above clashing claws and breaking stone.
“EVERYONE!” Gary roared, his throat raw, “GET TO LUPUS, STOP HIM NOW!”
The battlefield stilled for a heartbeat.
In the White Rose sector, Crawley and his team were still locked in combat with the AFC students, claws and fangs tearing through the restaurant’s outer walls. Inside the building, Xin clashed against his own opponents, fighting shoulder to shoulder with Austin.
But the moment Gary’s command cut through the noise, Austin reacted. Without hesitation, he lowered his shoulder and tore straight through the nearest Werewolf, splintering walls and debris as he broke out into the open, eyes locked toward the source of the danger.
Not far behind him, Midwak had also paused. His sharp gaze swept the carnage, and his eyes lingered on one spot, the crumpled form of Ylva. His chest tightened.
‘Ylva... I saved you more times than I can count,’ Midwak thought, jaw clenched. ‘But in the end, it was your greed that dragged you to this. You walked this path yourself.’
He had spent countless nights reflecting on his place with the Howlers, his role in the world. Once, his only goal had been to seize the title of Alpha for himself. But the longer he stayed, the more he had realized how empty that ambition had become. Perhaps it was Ylva who changed him most, his feelings for her, and the painful recognition that she was no longer the woman she once was.
At first, he couldn’t bear the thought of her being harmed. But after everything, after the blood she spilled and the havoc she caused, he had made peace with the truth. This was where his loyalty lay now, with the Howlers, with those he wanted to protect.
Without another thought, Midwak sprinted, his body moving instinctively toward the rumbling in the distance, where Don and Lupus had fought.
Austin wasn’t far behind, and though Xin remained locked in combat, even he kept a wary eye on the direction of Gary’s cry.
Underground, in the cellar beneath the restaurant, Gary’s desperate voice had reached even there.
Adam’s head snapped toward the ceiling, his expression grim and unyielding. His fists clenched.
“I’m sorry,” Adam muttered, turning to Marie. “But I can’t stay down here. Even if my powers aren’t working right, I can’t just sit back. I have to do something!”
He was already moving before Marie could respond. For all their bickering, for all the rivalry and hatred he and Don had shared, there was a bond beneath it. They had fought together. They had built respect for one another, forged in fire and blood.
Don didn’t deserve to fall like this. Not here. Not now.
“Marie!” Kai snapped suddenly, his voice sharp enough to cut. His face was pale, his body weak, but his eyes burned with fury. “You heard it too, Gary’s shout. You know what it means. Don’s lost. Lupus is still standing. If you want to win this, if you want us to survive, you have to feed me! You have to turn me! It’s the only way!”
Marie flinched, torn between fear and desperation.
On the surface, the first to respond to Gary’s call were Austin, Midwak, and Adam. Crawley arrived moments later, his white coat torn and stained, landing hard against the ruined earth. Beside him, Sadie and Frank descended from above, both bloodied but still breathing.
They formed a loose circle, every pair of eyes narrowing at the same sight.
Lupus stood at the center of the devastation. His body was drenched in crimson, blood coating his claws up to the forearms, dripping from his jaw in thick rivulets. His chest heaved with steady, monstrous breaths, every exhale steaming in the cold night air.
Behind him lay the remains of something human, or what had once been human. A crumpled, indistinct figure, barely recognizable, fragments of flesh and skin scattered across the ruined forest floor.
The destruction around them made the truth clear without a single word. Trees were uprooted, the earth torn apart, shockwaves etched into the terrain. The silence said enough.
“Where’s Don?” Adam demanded, voice hoarse, his eyes locked on the horror before him. “WHERE’S DON?!”
No one answered.
Gary, staggering across the battlefield, forced his legs to carry him further until his enhanced vision caught sight of Lupus fully. His stomach twisted. His heart sank.
‘No... no... no... Don... he’s gone. He’s been eaten by Lupus!’
The thought dug into him like claws.
There might still be a delay, he told himself. A moment before Lupus could truly absorb what he had consumed. Maybe, just maybe, they still had time. But if not...
Don had wielded incredible power. His control over water, his ability to fight like a Leviathan, had made him nearly unstoppable. If that power now flowed into Lupus, there was no telling what would happen. Perhaps the elements would be limited, locked away behind some unseen barrier like Gary’s own dragon form. But what if they weren’t? What if Lupus gained the full strength of both ice and water?
Gary’s throat tightened. His hands shook. None of those possibilities mattered in the end.
Because even if Lupus gained no elemental power at all... even if he unlocked no new form, no hidden ability...
He would still become the most powerful monster on this battlefield.
