Chapter 1528: A New System (Part 1)

When Gary looked ahead of him, he froze. A glowing system screen had appeared right in front of his eyes. For a moment, he was too shocked to even register the details written upon it. Instead, his attention drifted sideways, and that was when he noticed something even stranger. The others had the exact same look on their faces.

It wasn’t just him.

Kai was staring blankly forward, his eyes locked onto the empty air as if a screen only he could see floated in front of him. And Lupus was the same, his lips pulling back in a half-snarl as his focus remained fixed on something invisible.

“This thing in front of me... is this the same kind of system screen you usually see, Gary?” Kai asked suddenly, turning his head just slightly in Gary’s direction.

“I can see the screen in front of me as well,” Lupus added in a low voice.

Gary’s chest tightened. It couldn’t be a coincidence. Three people seeing the same strange phenomenon, the same kind of translucent display hanging in front of their vision. His thoughts spun quickly. Could this be connected to him? Could this be his system?

His system was always strange, tied to a mysterious man that he had never truly understood. It had brought him this far, shaped his entire life, and pushed him into battles he never could have imagined. But now, seeing the others reacting to something similar... it made him wonder if the system was responsible for pulling all of them into this bizarre place.

“Wait,” Gary muttered as he finally allowed his eyes to settle on the details of the glowing screen. “Actually... now that I look at it, even though it feels like a system screen, it’s kind of different. The interface, yeah, it’s not the same as mine. It’s almost like I’m staring at another game altogether, like switching from one to a completely different one.”

“Rather than worrying about how it looks,” Lupus interrupted, “don’t you think we should be discussing the contents of the screen instead?”

Gary blinked, realizing Lupus had no clue how significant this was. Lupus didn’t know about his Werewolf system at all. To him, this was simply some strange display, not the core of Gary’s entire power.

“He’s right,” Kai said, his eyes narrowing. “Did we all get the same message?”

Only then did Gary force himself to actually read what was written. His throat went dry as the words became clear.

[Your body has entered a new space]

[Your powers have been limited and locked away while in the current space]

[In order to exit the space, you must complete the various tasks given to you.]

Gary’s heart thudded heavily in his chest. He exhaled sharply and read the message aloud. As his words echoed into the air, he noticed both Kai and Lupus nodding along, confirming silently that they had received the exact same thing.

“You know,” Kai said suddenly, his brow twitching, “you don’t have to try and put on that robotic voice when you read it out loud.”

“I know,” Gary replied quickly, his cheeks flushing. “It’s just... that’s the voice I hear in my head when I read system messages.”

Lupus crossed his arms, “Well, it explains some things. It explains why I don’t feel as strong as before, why certain things won’t respond no matter how much I try. But it doesn’t explain everything. It doesn’t explain why we all turned into Omegas. And what the hell does it mean by ‘space’? What kind of place have we been thrown into?”

Kai frowned, his hand hovering over the screen as if he could reach out and touch it. “What kind of power could do this? What could possibly limit all three of us like this? If it can suppress everything to this degree, then what’s really behind it?”

Gary didn’t answer. He couldn’t. Instead, he forced himself to keep reading, and sure enough, the screen shifted again.

[You must complete the following Quest Chain to exit from the space]

Kai’s lips pressed into a thin line. “Space... that word again. It doesn’t sound like we’re in an illusion. It makes it feel like we’re trapped. No matter what we think, no matter how strong we are, we can’t just walk away.”

The screen pulsed once more.

[Find the Werewolves 0/2]

Gary’s voice cracked as he read it aloud. “Find the Werewolves? What does that even mean? Does it mean us?”

“Are you really that stupid?” Lupus said coldly. His long strides carried him closer until Gary instinctively shifted back on guard. Still, despite the sharp words, Lupus didn’t bare his fangs or raise his claws. Instead, he continued moving toward them, his tone harsh but steady. “Look. There are three of us standing here. If it meant us, the quest would have already marked itself complete and moved to the next task. Clearly, it doesn’t mean that.”

Gary’s jaw tightened. As much as he hated the insult, Lupus was right.

“Then what does it mean?” Kai asked, his voice low.

Lupus’s eyes narrowed. “That’s what I want to know. If this space is demanding we find Werewolves, then there must be more here. But that makes no sense. From everything I know, my pack and your pack, Gary, we’re the only Werewolves in existence.”

Kai leaned forward, his voice dropping. “Is there a chance... could there be other Omegas? Like Midwak?”

Gary’s stomach twisted at the thought, his mind flashing back to the trouble Midwak had caused.

“Maybe,” Lupus admitted reluctantly. “But I doubt it. Midwak was an exception. If there had been more, I would have known. And more Omegas would have meant a higher chance of new Alphas appearing. That’s not something I could have ignored. Unless Midwak turned others during his brief freedom, I don’t believe it.”

The silence stretched. None of them had answers, and the system gave nothing more than vague instructions. But what choice did they have?

“We don’t know where we are,” Gary said finally. “We don’t know what the rules are here. But we don’t have another option. We follow the quest. We find these Werewolves, whatever that means.”

“Maybe,” Kai muttered, “we’ll learn something from all of this.”

And just as he finished speaking, the screens flickered once again, and a final message appeared before their eyes.

[Although your power is limited, please note that the current space is a reality]

[If you die in this space, you will really die, so please don’t die.]
