Chapter 1541: Just Like Me?

Chapter 1541: Just Like Me?

A mysterious man had dropped out of the sky. For once, it wasn’t Gary, Kai, or Lupus doing the saving, or leaping in at the last second to pull someone else from danger. This time, they were the ones being saved.

It felt strange, unfamiliar. None of them knew who the man was. They had only been in this world for such a short time, and in that time, they had remembered nearly every face they’d come across. Yet this man, with his scarred features and powerful frame, was someone entirely unknown to them. His appearance alone raised questions, but his words earlier... they had hinted at something.

The truth of who he was, however, didn’t take long to reveal itself.

“Kill him!” Glen shouted, his face twisting with anger.

The adventurers obeyed without hesitation. The mages at his side turned, directing their full power at the stranger. Fireballs, spears of ice, arcs of lightning, every element imaginable filled the air and crashed toward him in a violent storm. The sheer number of spells created a blinding smoke screen, a wall of haze that swallowed the man whole.

For a moment, all Gary, Kai, and Lupus could see was light and hear was the endless crackle of magic. But then, cutting through the haze, a shape burst forward. A figure leapt high into the sky, muscles rippling beneath fur that sprouted along his body. As the smoke cleared, his transformation became obvious.

Brown fur covered him, thicker and rougher than Gary’s, yet strangely familiar. The figure’s body was undeniably human-shaped, but with the claws, fangs, and aura of raw power, there was no mistaking it.

As he descended from above, the man swung one massive claw in a single, devastating motion.

The attack tore through Glen’s body, ripping him in half. Blood spilled as the guild leader’s body fell to the ground, lifeless.

Silence followed. For a brief second, no one could comprehend what they had just seen.

“That man... is a Werewolf,” Gary breathed. His voice was hushed, but filled with awe.

They had all smelled it earlier when he first gave them a hint. But now, there was no denying it. The man’s transformation confirmed everything. And to Gary, it was even stranger, this was the first time he had ever seen another Werewolf with brown fur, just like him.

The guild leader of this town, Glen, was dead. Just like that.

But the battle wasn’t over. The adventurers, spurred on by fury and fear, charged at the new threat. One lunged forward with a spear, aiming for the Werewolf’s chest.

The Werewolf twisted his body, leaning back to dodge the strike with ease. His hand shot out, grabbing the shaft of the spear. With a sudden yank, he pulled the adventurer forward, dragging him off balance. His other fist slammed straight into the man’s chest, denting the steel plate he wore. The adventurer gasped, blood spraying from his mouth, yet somehow still clung to his weapon.

Desperation gleamed in his eyes as he pulled out a dagger with his free hand and tried to stab upward.

But the Werewolf was faster. He lifted the spear entirely, dragging the adventurer’s body off the ground as though he weighed nothing, and then slammed him into the floor with a sickening crunch.

The other adventurers didn’t hesitate. They rushed in with their blades drawn, mages already preparing their next attacks. The air filled with the sound of spells charging, the flicker of magic circles glowing across the battlefield.

But before Gary, Kai, or Lupus could join in, something else caught their attention.

Claws scraped against the stone surface of the platform. From the edges, figures began to crawl upward, several more Werewolves, their bodies fully transformed. They moved with terrifying speed, rushing straight into the group of adventurers.

With savage precision, they tore into them. Claws ripped through armor as if it were cloth. One Werewolf leapt onto a man’s back, sinking its fangs deep into his neck and tearing him apart. Another swiped across a chest plate, carving through both steel and flesh.

Some of the adventurers fought back with skill, blocking or parrying blows, but even then the Werewolves didn’t falter. They weren’t just relying on teeth and claws. To Gary’s surprise, some of them wielded weapons.

One Werewolf swung a massive sword in an arc, cleaving straight through an adventurer’s neck. The man’s head fell to the ground, rolling away as blood poured from his body.

Another carried a mace, swinging it with crushing force. It collided with a shield, shattering it into pieces before smashing the man holding it into the dirt.

Gary couldn’t help but stare. The sight was unlike anything he had imagined. He had thought it strange when Lupus’s pack used weapons alongside their natural power. But here, in this strange time and place, Werewolves wielded weapons freely, as if it were second nature.

And they were stronger than the adventurers by far. Stronger, faster, and utterly relentless.

The humans stood no chance. The battlefield quickly turned one-sided, the adventurers being slaughtered left and right. In the span of moments, the situation was resolved. There was no longer any need for Gary or the others to interfere.

“Good job!” the brown-furred Werewolf shouted, his voice carrying across the mountain. He let out a short howl, loud and commanding. In unison, the other Werewolves howled back, their voices echoing together.

Then, before their eyes, the man’s body began to revert. Fur shrank away, claws retreated, and soon he stood as a man again. He wore leather armor, though unlike the Howlers’ uniforms Gary was familiar with, this armor seemed to adapt seamlessly to his changing body. It wasn’t stretched or torn, it grew with his transformation, like it had been crafted with that very purpose in mind.

He stepped closer, his eyes fixed on the three of them. His voice was calm but firm. “First, I want to tell the three of you, you should thank the innkeeper. He was the one who told me there might be three of you like me wandering about. Said you were a naïve bunch.” He smirked slightly. “I can see he was right.”

Gary, Kai, and Lupus exchanged glances.

The man’s expression shifted, his eyes narrowing. “But what I’m wondering is why the three of you are dressed like that. You look like you don’t belong here.” He shook his head. “I guess we can learn more about each other soon enough. My name is Steve. And we are part of the Moonscar Pack.”

The glow of the battlefield reflected in his gaze. That was when Gary noticed the man’s eyes. Red.

They gleamed in the light, sharp and unyielding.

A message appeared before Gary’s eyes.
