Chapter 1603: Unrestrained Power
Chapter 1603: Unrestrained Power
Gary maintained a slow, unwavering stride directly toward the remnants of the Rock Guild. His focus was singular, and he advanced without any concern for the immediate danger behind him, the enraged knights who were surely preparing an attack. He didn’t need to look back; he had absolute, unwavering confidence in Kai and Lupus to fully handle the initial disruption and the knights attempting to secure the assessor.
However, the sight of the escalating violence had left Siz entirely distraught. The failure, the humiliation, and now the fighting, had all centered on him. He stumbled backward, murmuring to himself, "Is all of this happening because of me? It’s all my fault..."
Gary stopped his advance momentarily, pointing a stern finger back at Siz. "Hey. Stop that right now. This is not happening because of you," he declared. "You are not the one who turned these guys into scumbags. They did that all by themselves. If anything, you’ve just given me a more than adequate reason to deal with them and give them the proper beating they deserve."
They had to protect themselves. Fenix was the first to react. As their most agile member, he had grabbed his dagger, his true weapon of choice, and charged desperately right at Gary.
"You have no idea who you’re dealing with!" Oppo shouted, his voice now a nervous shriek instead of a command. "We are an experienced guild! We fight together! We saw how sloppy he was with his weapon just moments ago, take him out before he can react!"
Fenix charged in from the side with the dagger held low and tight. Gary made an unexpected move: he casually dropped the bulky, useless Warhammer onto the ground, acknowledging that the rules of the test no longer applied. He then spun with lightning speed, his hand shooting out to seize Fenix precisely by the wrist, the grip strong, iron-hard, and completely inescapable. With his other hand, Gary delivered a clean, focused, devastating punch directly into Fenix’s face.
The hit was instantaneous and decisive. Fenix’s world dissolved into darkness; his head snapped violently back, and he fell like a stone onto the floor, instantly knocked out from the sheer brute force of the blow.
"I fight a lot better with just my hands," Gary said, cracking the knuckles of his striking hand, a savage light in his eyes. "So let’s do this the right way."
At the same moment, Lupus and Kai were struggling against the five charging knights. The man whom Kai had hit earlier with the head-butt had recovered with surprising speed, utilizing a defensive roll to get back on his feet. He charged back into the fight, his sword thrusting forward with a sudden burst of Qi. The acceleration of the strike was faster than Kai had anticipated. Moving just in time, Kai managed to sidestep the attack, watching the energized sword skim mere inches past his face, the whistling sound of displaced air confirming how close the strike was.
This is Qi, right? Kai thought, the realization instantly sobering him to the reality of the fight. All these knights really know how to use it, that’s why they are so fast and efficient.
As a second, coordinated attack came from the opposite side, Kai was forced to raise the single sword he still had in his hand. The fragile blade met the powerful, Qi-enhanced sword of the oncoming knight, and his own weapon was instantly sliced clean in half. He quickly had to jump backward to avoid the follow-up strike, leaving himself unarmed.
This is going to be far more difficult than I originally thought, Kai grimly realized, frustrated by the suppression of his true strength. I desperately hope Gary can finish off those weaklings quickly and come help us out here.
Kai, now purely defensive, began skillfully dodging one of the knight’s relentless strikes. He manipulated his own movements, however, allowing him to maneuver in a way that cleverly boxed out the other knight, stopping him from coming in for a clear, flanking shot. He then exploded forward. Kai dodged two rapid strikes, then threw the broken hilt of his sword toward one of the charging men, distracting him. He then closed the distance and landed two swift, powerful hits to the man’s stomach.
The hits were solid, focused blows, causing the knight to gasp and double over. Right after that, the wounded knight was suddenly seized by the neck from behind, the crushing grip tightening instantly. It was Lupus, moving with unexpected stealth.
Lupus effortlessly lifted the knight high into the air, holding him suspended, and then slammed him down hard onto the floor. The man was clearly, brutally hurt, coughing and choking uncontrollably. The impact had completely overcome even his Qi protection. Lupus, showing no mercy, kicked the man hard in the stomach a second time, the force sending him skidding across the floor with a chilling sound that suggested a broken rib.
It was at that critical, demoralizing moment that the assessor himself decided to intervene, leaping into the fray. He drew his own longsword, his face now twisted into a mask of pure, bloodied rage.
"Don’t block it!" Kai screamed a warning to Lupus, knowing that the assessor’s weapon would be equally capable of tearing through any normal defense.
Lupus instantly understood. Instead of blocking, he kicked backward, his foot digging into the dirt and scattering a massive cloud of dust right into the assessor’s face, momentarily blinding the charging man. Taking full advantage of the split second of confusion, Lupus abandoned his defensive posture and charged forward, delivering a heavy, powerful hit to the side of the assessor’s face. The force sent the head assessor tumbling and skidding across the ground backward, a clear sign of the unexpected power behind the blow.
The dust settled, revealing the score. There were still four knights standing, plus the head assessor, who was now slowly rising, wiping blood from his mouth and staring with venomous hatred.
"Crapping hell!" one of the few remaining participants muttered in sheer, wide-eyed disbelief. "These guys... they’re actually strong enough to go up against trained knights! It’s no wonder we stood absolutely no chance against them in the physical tests."
For both Kai and Lupus, there was a profound frustration bubbling beneath their focused rage. If only their true powers weren’t suppressed, this desperate situation would have been resolved in seconds.
At that exact moment, one of the remaining knights, seeing the Rock Guild members being brutalized and his comrades incapacitated, made a life-saving decision. He turned, not toward the fight, but away from it, breaking into a desperate sprint.
"I need to inform somebody immediately!" the fleeing knight yelled in panic as he ran toward the nearest exit. "I need to get help!”
