Chapter 457: Celestial Descent Festival
Chapter 457: Celestial Descent Festival
A faint, almost imperceptible smile appeared on his face. After so many weeks surviving only on food pills, practical and efficient but terrible, he truly missed food. Real food.
Without wasting time, he left the courtyard and walked toward the city streets. But the moment he left the residential district… He stopped.
Because the city had changed. Completely.
Kyrian stood there for a few seconds, observing. The streets were crowded, far more crowded than before. Thousands of people walked in every direction.
Merchants shouted offers in hoarse voices, musicians played exotic instruments Kyrian had never seen before, and cultivators discussed the events of the festival excitedly.
Colorful banners hung from the buildings, red, blue, and golden, each bearing different symbols. Spiritual lanterns illuminated street corners with lights that changed color, and decorative streamers stretched across the streets from building to building.
It was as if he were in another city, not the one where he had arrived a month ago.
Several new constructions had appeared. Temporary shops made of wood and cloth, markets with products from every region, pavilions where artists and craftsmen displayed their works, and stages where musicians and dancers performed for enthusiastic crowds.
And what caught his attention the most… Auction houses. Four of them, gigantic, positioned around the central square.
Each one more luxurious than the last, one made of white jade, another of polished black wood, another of golden stone, another of transparent crystal, all bustling, all filled with cultivators constantly entering and leaving.
Kyrian raised an eyebrow.
“So it’s because of the Celestial Descent…”
He murmured, continuing to walk.
The smell reached him before he even saw the restaurant. Meat roasting slowly, exotic spices he did not recognize, fresh herbs, rich broth, freshly baked bread. A mixture so delicious it almost made him change direction immediately.
Shortly afterward, he found the place. It was enormous, five stories tall, with balconies and red lanterns, and he was absolutely certain that restaurant had not existed before. It looked newly built, as if it had been erected specifically for the festival, with wood that still smelled of sawdust and fresh paint. Without hesitation, he entered.
The interior was packed. Cultivators everywhere, loud laughter and lively conversations, toasts made with cups of spiritual wine. Waitresses moved quickly between the tables, carrying steaming trays.
The smell of food was even better inside. Kyrian went directly to the second floor, where most of the patrons were in the Core Formation Realm.
The atmosphere was calmer, more refined, and quieter, the tables were larger, the customers better dressed, and the servers more attentive. He sat near a window, from where he could observe the bustling square below.
Shortly afterward, an attendant approached, her robe immaculate and her smile professional.
“What would you like to order, sir?”
Kyrian glanced quickly at the menu, a list of exotic dishes with names he had never seen before. Then he began.
“Scarlet Mountain Ox Ribs.” The attendant wrote it down.
“Roasted Spiritual Boar.” She wrote again.
“Cloud Bird.” Another dish.
“Golden Root Stew.” Another.
“Spiritual Mushrooms.” Another.
“Three dishes of spiritual vegetables.” The attendant blinked.
“Is that all?”
“No.” Kyrian continued.
He ordered two more meat dishes, another soup made with ingredients he had never heard of, and another side of aromatic bread.
When he finished, the woman was looking at him as if she had seen a monster. That amount would feed five people. Perhaps more. Kyrian simply said,
“Bring everything.”
Fifteen minutes later, the table was completely covered, and Kyrian began to eat. Not quickly, but steadily, savoring every bite, every flavor, every aroma. The meat was tender and juicy, the seasonings strong and spicy, the broth rich and comforting.
After weeks of living on pills… It felt like a divine banquet. When he finished, almost nothing remained.
The attendant seemed shocked, her eyes wide, her mouth slightly open. Kyrian left a generous tip, so generous that the woman’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. Then he stood up and left the restaurant.
His next destination was the Alchemists Association. The enormous building remained just as busy as before. Alchemists entered and exited carrying bottles and scrolls. Apprentices ran back and forth carrying crates of herbs, and employees transported materials between floors. Kyrian entered calmly and immediately heard a familiar voice.
“Oh! Young Kyrian!”
Lio Han was walking through the main hall, his dark green robe swaying with every step. His face lit up when he saw him.
“You’re here again.”
Kyrian nodded.
“Hm.”
“I imagine you’re here to sell more perfect pills.” Lio Han smiled, already seeming completely convinced of the answer.
Kyrian confirmed.
“Yes. I have a large batch this time.”
The elder’s eyes immediately lit up.
“Come with me. I have something interesting to discuss.”
Shortly afterward, they were in a more private corner, away from the constant activity of the main hall. Lio Han leaned closer and lowered his voice.
“I’ll be honest with you. This will be advantageous for both of us.”
Kyrian remained silent, waiting.
“Tomorrow the Celestial Descent Festival begins. The Alchemists Association controls one of the Four Heavenly Auction Halls. I would like to use part of your batches as regular auction items.”
Kyrian listened attentively.
“The payment will take a little longer for you to receive, but the final value will be much higher than the normal price. What do you think?”
Kyrian thought for a few seconds. It was a reasonable proposal. Very reasonable.
Lio Han could simply buy everything from him cheaply now and profit alone, but he was not doing that.
He was offering a partnership, obviously because he wanted to establish a connection with such a talented alchemist. But it was still advantageous for both of them.
“I accept.”
Lio Han broke into a huge smile.
“Excellent!”
Soon the two of them headed to the third floor. A private room with windows overlooking the square. Aromatic tea. Golden biscuits. Silence.
Kyrian handed over the batches. Lio Han began to examine them. And a few minutes later, his expression changed. Once. Then again. And again. Until he finally stopped.
“Incredible…”
He murmured.
Three of the batches used recipes that he himself had previously provided, relatively difficult recipes that required precise temperature control and exact timing.
And every single one of them, absolutely every one, possessed perfect purity. One hundred percent. No defects. No flaws. No detectable impurities.
Lio Han looked at Kyrian. And for the first time, he felt something close to admiration. No. It was a shock. That boy was a monster. A true monster of alchemy.
He was someone with whom Lio Han needed to establish a connection. In the future, Kyrian could become an alchemist of… Rank 6? Easily. Rank 7? Very possible. Rank 8? Perhaps. Who knew how far he might go?
A few minutes later, Lio Han took out a golden token and handed it over.
“Take it.”
Kyrian received it.
“What is it?”
“A VIP token. With it, you will have access to the private rooms of the Four Heavenly Auction Halls. Priority entry. Reserved seating. And the ability to place bids without being in the middle of the crowd.”
Kyrian stored the item away. It could be useful, especially now that he would have some free time while consolidating his cultivation.
Then he looked at Lio Han, finally asking the question that had been on his mind for weeks.
“What exactly is the Celestial Descent Festival?”
