Chapter 1100: Chapter 663: The Little Frogs by the Happy Pond (Part 2)

“No need to apologize,” the old man said calmly. “Li Bingxi is cunning and treacherous. Finding where his wife was imprisoned was already quite a difficult task. You’ve accomplished a great feat. As for Xiao Zhun’s situation, even if Li Bingxi were to die prematurely, it’s hard to change his fate. Don’t be sad, this was the outcome he chose for himself, and he has no regrets.”

The middle-aged man fell silent.

The old man slowly stood up and smiled, waving at the young man beside the middle-aged man. “You must be Qing Wu. Xiao Zhun mentioned you many times.”

The dark-skinned young man took two steps forward, only to see the old man examining him closely. “Your father has followed me for thirty years. Now, it’s your turn to follow the next Family Head. Once you take this step, there’s no turning back. Do you agree?”

Qing Wu nodded. “I agree. I’ve met him; he is indeed stronger than others.”

The old man said, “Xiao Zhun mentioned you to me. He said you just wanted to see if Qing Chen was qualified, so you requested to become a Shadow Candidate. So, have you observed enough?”

Qing Wu shook his head. “He hasn’t participated much in the shadow conflict, so I have little observation of him.”

“Then why are you willing to follow him?” the old man asked.

“Being able to jump out of the shadow conflict is a skill in itself,” Qing Wu said calmly, showing no hint of humility in front of the Qing Clan House Master. “However, he is not yet the Family Head. Until then, I must continue my practice. The day he truly becomes the Family Head is the day I’ll follow him.”

The old man sighed, “Your lineage is filled with martial fanatics. Your grandfather was one, your father is one, and so are you.”

The middle-aged man suddenly said, “Being a martial fanatic is great. We don’t have to worry about so many troublesome things. We just do what we’re told. Achieving one thing in a lifetime is enough.”

“Seems happier than us,” the old man said softly. He took out a silver necklace from his bosom and placed it in the middle-aged man’s hand. “From now on, it belongs to you. No regrets?”

The middle-aged man shook his head. “No regrets. I already have Qing Wu. After his mother left, I lost all desires.”

“Suit yourself. What Xiao Zhun wanted to give you, perhaps he knew you wouldn’t refuse,” the old man said.

“The battle over there at Taboo Land No. 002 is still ongoing,” the middle-aged man said as he wore the Door of Shadow Necklace around his neck. “I’ve been to Taboo Land No. 002. I can go help.”

“No need,” the old man shook his head.

“Let him live or die on his own?” the middle-aged man asked.

“If he is fated to die, then that is his destiny,” the old man said. “The people of Qing’s Family pamper their children too much, which is why they forget the bloodline of their ancestors. The people of Qing’s Family should be like wolves, but they’ve all turned into sheep now, willing to sell even the most important things. What wouldn’t they sell? I want a true Qing’s Bloodline, not a useless one.”

“What if he dies?” the middle-aged man retorted.

“Then let Qing’s Family perish with him,” the old man waved his hand. “Tired, go and collect the bodies of those people down the mountain.”

“Do we need to kill those who want to kill you, I mean…”

“No need,” the old man chuckled. “They’re excellent whetstones, let Qing Chen kill them.”

The middle-aged man nodded. “Understood.”

With that, he turned and left with Qing Wu, carefully closing the wooden door.

In fact, he didn’t plan to go to Taboo Land No. 002. Given his understanding of that Shadow, if the Shadow knew this battle would lead to death yet still brought Qing Chen to the battlefield, he must be certain Qing Chen would survive.

This was his trust in the Shadow, a tacit understanding accumulated over the years.

The middle-aged man walked down the mountain and instructed his son, “Go into seclusion as soon as you’re down there. The current affairs aren’t suitable for you to get involved in. You are the sword for the next Family Head, and it’s not time to unsheathe yet.”

“Understood,” Qing Wu nodded.

The middle-aged man took one last look at the bloodstains down the mountain and then turned to the wooden hut.

Perhaps many had forgotten that the old man was also a Shadow and was the last one standing among them all.

Those whom Qing Zhun could suppress, the old man could too.

Thinking you could sneak up on Ginkgo Manor unnoticed? That’s too naive.

Upstream of the Chunlei River, a Deer Island force was on their way.

Their mission was to take over the laboratory upstream, which was a transaction between Qing’s Family and Deer Island.

From a distance, the laboratory stood like a fortress in the wilderness, silently as though everyone inside had already evacuated.

The Deer Island force sent drones to scout, but before the drones could get close, a force quickly descended upon them.

In the night’s sky, people could hear the sound of a massive engine, and when they looked up, they were shocked to see Qing Clan’s Scepter Sky Fortress suddenly descending from the heavens.

The fortress-like flying giant made the Deer Island soldiers’ scalps tingle.

“Aerial Fortress! Why is there an Aerial Fortress here!”

With a thunderous roar, the main firepower electromagnetic cannon of Scepter No. exploded, shattering the Deer Island force to pieces.

In the blink of an eye, the Deer Island force was smashed to bits by the unstoppable Aerial Fortress, leaving only a dozen or so of the original five hundred soldiers.

The Scepter No. did not stop, and the commander on the bridge coldly said after just a few glances, “Continue northward, have the escort fleet break through north, and bomb Deer Island’s forward bases F119 and F121 before leaving.”
