Chapter 916: Chapter 909 : Yin Release

Fu's spectral form closed in, his hand stretching forward, trembling not from fear, but from grim determination.

'Fall into my grasp…' he thought, as his fingers reached for Akuro's back.

From a distance, Danzo observed coldly, without a hint of expression on his face. His eyes were locked onto Akuro like a hawk. Beneath that calm mask, his mind was razor-sharp, calculating, 'One second is all he needs. If Fu succeeds... this battle will be decided in an instant.'

Akuro, who had so far been calmly observing Danzo and his last remaining subordinate, almost as if Danzo's killing intent had finally made an impression on him, suddenly moved. His figure disappeared and instantly reappeared a couple of steps to his right. His left arm burst into blue flames and he made a sharp grabbing motion toward the spot he had just vacated.

For a moment, Fu didn't understand what had happened. He had been inches away from Akuro's spirit and could smell victory. However, before he could grasp the sensation of success, an overwhelming force wrapped around him!

Akuro's burning hand clasped Fu's spirit and he muttered, "To think you could control your spirit to this extent… Impressive. A pity your body had to be destroyed for you to realize this talent of yours…"

'No!!!' Terror flooded Fu's mind. The blue flames from Akuro's arm, beautiful yet deadly, engulfed his translucent spirit. He tried to resist, to surge forward one last time, but his willpower crumbled like dry leaves in a storm. The flames weren't just burning him, they were erasing him entirely!

A frown finally appeared on Danzo's face as he analyzed, 'Yin flames… I should have expected. Normal flames will have a difficult time harming Fu's spirit, but against Yin flames, Fu is completely helpless. With such affinity to Yin Release, he likely sensed Fu's spirit the very moment it left his body. That said, his Yin flames are eerily similar to Matatabi's flames. Is the inevitable result when Fire and Yin chakras mix to the limit or do his flames come from her?'

Danzo had a feeling the answer to his question would solve a huge mystery. Akuro claimed himself to be ancient. His behaviour, actions and strangeness reinforced his claim. It wasn't a surprise for such a being to have a very high mastery of Yin-Yang manipulation. However, if his flames came from Matatabi, then all his claims would come under scrutiny.

Danzo thought, 'If it is the former, his mastery of Yin-Yang manipulation is at a level higher than even Hiruzen's. If it is the latter, then there's a high probability of a scheme being at work here. No matter, I first need to defeat him here…'

The bandages around Danzo's eye and arm unravelled and started falling to the ground. The scene was noticed by the near extinguished spirit of Fu. His final thought was, 'Even though I failed, I brought sufficient time for Danzo-sama to remove the seals. He can fight at his full poten…'

The flames consumed Fu completely, leaving not even a trace behind. Akuro turned his gaze to Danzo and said, "You have finally gotten rid of your restrictions. I hope I won't need to hold back anymore, Danzo of Root. For all that you have said, I'd be disappointed if you don't entertain me as much as the Lightning ninjas."

The message behind Fujin's words was plain as day. The last remaining Root ninja frowned, 'Does he imply he could have killed Danzo-sama at any time he wanted to but spared him only because he wanted to see how strong Danzo-sama was? How arrogant! Even though he is strong, Danzo-sama isn't helpless when removing the seals. Even if you could kill Danzo-sama, you'll regret holding back and not acting decisively!'

Danzo felt Akuro's disdain as well, but he wasn't offended unlike his subordinate. On the contrary, Danzo expected Akuro to possess such disdain. Without a word or hand seal, he fired several Air Bullets at Akuro. Akuro's figure blurred again, dodging the air bullet barrage with ease while moving towards Danzo, his sword ready to strike him down.

Danzo observed, 'He isn't using the Lightning Chakra Mode. Is he conserving chakra or does he look down at me to that extent?'

Neither scenario was bad for Danzo. If it was the former, it would imply Akuro wasn't as strong as the Raikage. If it was the latter, then Danzo would try to take advantage of his opponent's arrogance. Danzo thought, 'Regardless of what his reason is, it is far easier for me to injure him when he isn't using the Lightning Chakra Mode. Without it, the threat he poses to me will also fall drastically, unless he has some other tricks up his sleeve. I should use his arroga…'

Danzo's thoughts froze for a moment as he realized something odd. Akuro's eyes weren't open. Instead, he sensed seals on top of them! Danzo immediately concluded two things. Firstly, his assessment of Akuro's arrogance wasn't accurate. Secondly, Akuro was careful against his Sharingan despite his earlier words.

Fujin, when he spent a couple of months planning and laying an elaborate scheme to lure out Danzo, spent a lot of time debating this issue. Danzo possessed an array of dangerous techniques. The precise and fast Vacuum jutsus, a deadly summon, Hashirama's cells and the Wood Release it provided, the enigmatic Izanagi, each more dangerous than the previous. However, what threatened Fujin the most was Shisui's eye.

Ironically, what threatened Fujin more wasn't the Mangekyou ability of Shisui's eye. The truly dangerous ability of Shisui was in the eye he gave to Itachi. The one with Danzo could only cast Genjutsu sneakily to actively manipulate the victim. Since Fujin was aware of it, he could easily break out of it like he did not long ago. Instead, it was the basic Sharingan Genjutsu that Fujin considered the biggest threat.

Fujin's ability to break out of Genjutsu was obviously very strong, but that was as long as the Sharingan wasn't involved. The Sharingan Genjutsu, even without the Mangekyou, was notoriously difficult to break out of. Fujin couldn't do so. Naturally, he had safeguards against Sharingan Genjutsu, but using them would risk undermining the aura of invincibility he was carefully cultivating around Akuro.

There was another complication involved here. From what Fujin could recall from his memories, Danzo hadn't used any of his Sharingan to cast Genjutsu like a normal Uchiha would. So, Fujin wasn't even sure if Danzo could do it. However, having seen what Orochimaru and Hiruzen could do, Fujin didn't want to take such an unnecessary risk.

'Wind Release: Gentle Gale jutsu'

Danzo took a deep breath and took a few steps forward, standing next to his subordinate. He exhaled strong winds, much like the Infinite Breakthrough jutsu. However, a large portion of the winds suddenly turned at nearly 90° angles fanning out on both sides, their speeds constantly accelerating. At the same time, the speed of the winds moving towards Akuro fell drastically.

The two changes created a strange situation. Instead of storming or bombarding the enemy like a normal wind jutsu would, Danzo's jutsu seemed to want to draw the enemy in and surround them from all sides, something Akuro was experiencing first hand. Needless to say, Danzi wanted to take advantage of Akuro's self-imposed blindness.

Akuro's speed slowed as he analyzed, 'Tsk… As expected, he isn't a slouch when it comes to Yin-Yang manipulation. He's even better than me at applying it to Wind Release. If I continue, I'll be attacked by winds from all sides. That said, his control over winds may be very good, but these winds lack the sharpness that Wind Release is famous for. They won't even put a scratch on my cloak. Huh?'

Just as Akuro realized the harmlessness of the wind, the Root ninja spat out hot flames into Danzo's flames. In an instant, the flames spread across Danzo's entire jutsu! Under Danzo's control, the flames rapidly closed in on Akuro from all sides, finally meeting at a point and exploding with a loud bang!

The explosion sent a shockwave ripping through the trees, tearing branches and igniting the canopy in a storm of embers. Crimson flames surged outward like a living beast, devouring the surrounding forest and casting flickering shadows across the battlefield.

"Did we get him?" The Root ninja asked unsurely. There was no movement in the flames or the smoke, but he didn't think Akuro could be dealt with so easily.

Danzo answered, "No, he retreated before he could be completely surrounded. Even without the Lightning Chakra Mode, he is very quick. Don't let your guard down."
