Chapter 923: Chapter 916 : What are Akuro's intentions?

Looking at the massive Lightning Dragon falling towards him, Danzo instinctively controlled all the winds in his wind domain to intercept Akuro's Kirin. He immediately realized, 'No, it won't stop it! I haven't had the time to become proficient with this jutsu yet. Neither the scale of the jutsu nor my control over the jutsu can be compared with Fujin yet. Not to mention, the majority of my Wind Domain is at the ground level…'

Even though Danzo poured a lot of his chakra into the Wind Domain, his intent behind it was surviving Akuro's senbon. When Danzo blasted himself towards the sky, the majority of the Wind Domain was left behind. Danzo couldn't create a Wind Cloak like Fujin could.

While the Wind Domain wasn't completely immobile and could be moved to his new location because Danzo hadn't moved very far, he simply lacked the time to do so.

Suddenly, Baku raised his mouth towards the sky and began sucking in everything in an attempt to 'swallow' Kirin. However, Kirin wasn't a physical entity nor a chakra construct. It was pure natural Lightning. Baku was unwilling to swallow something so dangerous and actually wanted to retreat after seeing the Lightning Dragon. Unfortunately, he was helpless against Danzo's influence.

At the same time, Danzo extended his right arm, creating a massive tree on top of Baku's back!

Due to Baku's suction force, the tragectory of Kirin was about to be affected. But before it could do so, a new smaller Lightning Dragon rose from one of the scales of the massive Lightning Dragon. It headed straight towards Baku's mouth while the rest continued towards Danzo.

Danzo frowned, 'Baku's ability only reduced the lightning's power by 20%...'

The Lightning Dragon tore into Danzo's Wind Domain, marching unaffected by the Wind Blades and hit the tree Danzo created with the help of Hashirama's cells!

Sensing the confrontation, Fujin observed, 'Impressive defense… As expected of someone like Danzo. If my Kirin was hastily created or if Danzo had noticed it earlier, he may have been able to defend against it. Unfortunately…'

As Fujin calculated, Danzo's defenses failed against his mighty attack. In the original story, Danzo used the tree to divert an arrow shot by Sasuke's Sussano. However, Kirin's scale was far larger. Altering its path slightly wasn't enough. Danzo needed to block the whole thing, something he failed to do.

The Lightning burned through the massive tree before reaching Danzo in the blink of an eye. He could do nothing except activate Izanagi once again. At the same time, the small Lightning Dragon entered Baku's mouth. A painful shriek roared through the forest as Baku disappeared in a massive cloud of smoke, its state unknown! Meanwhile, the remains of Danzo's burned corpse fell towards the ground.

Fujin thoughtfully analyzed, 'Hmm, I expected Baku to use the winds to suppress the Lightning. I guess not. While his suction ability is impressive, he has little control over the winds beyond that. And though Lightning is weak against Wind, Kirin is in a completely different league as compared to Sasuke's basic fire jutsu. Guess I expected too much of Baku. Or perhaps he has abilities that aren't so good at direct confrontation…'

He thought for a bit before throwing it to the back of his mind. His curiousity towards Baku had waned considerably after seeing his poor performance. Instead, he wondered, 'Where will Danzo revive this time? Near what remains of his Wind Domain, or will he try his luck elsewhere? Poor fellow… He's under such stresss that he might suffer an anxiety attack once he revives. To struggle between life & death while being fed lies continuously… How much bad karma did he accumulate to deserve this in his old age?'

For the first time, Fujin felt some pity for Danzo. Had Danzo heard Fujin's thoughts, he might have puked blood in pure rage! Not only was Fujin aware of Danzo's nefarious acts, but he was directly responsible for Danzo's current state! For someone like Danzo, being pitied was far more humiliating than suffering in the battlefield.

A minute later, Danzo revived for the tenth time! Once again, he reappeared in the air, in an area on the border of where his Wind Domain was, or was supposed to be. He immediately tried to control winds but realized he couldn't! His Wind Domain no longer existed! Dread filled his mind as he lost one of his only hope of survival!

Danzo instinctively used the Assassin's Rush jutsu to blast himself away from Akuro's location. As he flew away, he suddenly realized, 'That's strange… How was I not hit? Eh?'

Danzo observed his surroundings careful as he landed some distance away. Akuro was standing without making a move while Danzo didn't sense any sneak attack. He quickly analyzed, 'Akuro failed to detect my position this time? No, that doesn't make any sense. Why didn't he attack me?'

Having experienced a false sense of security several times, Danzo raised his guard and became as alert as he could! As Danzo tensed his body and prepared for another ambush, a strange sensation rippled down his right shoulder.

It began subtly, like a dull pulse just beneath his skin, but quickly grew into a violent throb. He glanced down sharply, eyes narrowing as he saw the muscles around his shoulder convulsing unnaturally. Veins bulged, twitching like live wires under the skin.

Before he could even begin to suppress it with chakra, a sharp jolt of pain exploded through his shoulder, and his entire right arm twitched violently. The next moment, it tore itself away from his body! Not with a clean slice but as if the limb had been rejected, muscle tearing from muscle, nerves snapping like overstrained wires. The grotesque, half-mangled arm dropped to the ground with a wet thud, still twitching slightly, as if unsure it was no longer a part of him.

Having predicted it, Fujin thought, 'You've exhausted all 10 Sharingans embedded in your arm. Without their Yin chakra to counterbalance Hashirama's invasive Yang chakra, the Yin-Yang balance was in shambles. Perhaps you could have resisted it temporarily with your own chakra, but you've been using it rather liberally, Danzo.

Using Shisui's eye more than a dozen times in quick succession, blowing several Wind and Vacuum jutsus, activating Izanagi ten times, pouring a major chunk of your chakra into the Wind Domain, summoning Baku and using Wood Release… You may have planted Hashirama's cells in your arm, but you don't have his chakra reserves.'

Initially, Danzo was careful about his chakra reserves and carefully planned his moves around it. However, when he fell into the deadly trap and repeatedly died, he could no longer afford to prioritize it. What use would his chakra be if he wasn't alive to use it? As a result, he hadn't held back during his last two lives, impacting his chakra reserves substantially.

Danzo stared at his detached right arm with a stunned expression. The once-powerful arm, stuffed with Sharingans and strengthened with Hashirama's cells, was now a rotting mess of blind eyes and corrupted flesh, no longer under his control. A twisted cocktail of chakra backlash, cellular rejection, and Yin-Yang imbalance had finally caught up with him. He gritted his teeth and turned his focus back to Akuro, who surprisingly still hadn't attacked him.

Sensing his hateful gaze, Akuro chuckled, "Why are you so stunned? Yin-Yang balance is the basic truth of this world. Even with those Sharingans, your arm was tilting towards Yang chakra due to Ashura's invasive Yang chakra. If you didn't restrain it with seals majority of the time, it would eventually go out of control. Now that you have exhausted the Yin chakra in that arm, the result was obvious."

Needless to say, Danzo understood it all, but that didn't make it any easier to accept. He didn't reply. Instead, he kept an watchful eye while rapidly considering his options. He state was truly terrible!

Breaking the silence, Akuro continued in a taunting tone, "Too scared to speak up now, Danzo of Root? I'll give you one last chance of survival. Swear fealty to me, or follow your subordinates to their graves."

Akuro's offer surprised Danzo again. He immediately realized, 'This is why he didn't attack me this time! He killed me ten times without getting injured even once in the process. He wanted to establish his dominance and imprint fear in my mind so that I would have no choice but to succumb!'

Despite realizing, Danzo was without options. He analyzed, 'Even though I'm not done yet, I can't defeat him in a direct confrontation no matter what tactics I use. This is better. As long as I live, there will be countless opportunities to assassinate him. I could… No!

Using Shisui's ability is too risky. This is likely my last opportunity. If I alarm him, my life will be over. I have to make him fall under Sharingan Genjutsu to give me an opening. Even though it may take some time to succeed, I can gain plenty of valuable information from Akuro.

Yes, this way is the optimal path. However, I can't appear to eager, lest he becomes suspicious. In addition, I need to be on guard against any unknown seal…'

[A/N: While I understand the enthusiasm for Danzo's death, I'm a bit surprised no one wants him to survive. He can be as impactful as Hiruzen in the story (though not as powerful). Was expecting at least a few to predict this. Anyway...

Next chapter: A Partnership Forms! Danzo's return to Politics!]

[A/N: I'll try, but probably no chapter tomorrow. Barely managed to finish today...]
