Chapter 1411: Upgraded BrokenTime Watch (Part 1)
Using his spiritual sense, Evan carefully observed the Minor Rank Advancement Orb.
Because of the Blood Dungeon he had entered while he was on Earth, Evan’s spiritual power was already far stronger than that of other people at the same rank.
After reaching the Middle Level of Rank Four, his spiritual power had been strengthened even further.
As Evan used his powerful spiritual sense to observe the orb, he saw milky-white energy swirling within it, shrouded by strange rules.
The milky-white energy seemed somewhat similar to World Essence, but its purity was far higher.
It was as though it were an upgraded version of World Essence.
However, even if it was an enhanced version of World Essence, it was impossible for this energy alone to allow him to advance from the Middle Level of Rank Four to the Peak of Rank Four.
To reach the Peak of Rank Four, he needed to increase the level of his Law Seal.
And the milky-white energy inside the orb did not possess the ability to directly increase the level of his Law Seal.
At most, it could serve as a supplement during his breakthrough by providing him with an enormous amount of energy.
The truly important aspect of the orb was the strange Rules surrounding this milky white energy.
Those Rules were the fundamental essence of the Minor Rank Advancement Orb.
Once he used the orb, the Rules shrouding the milky-white energy would help deepen his understanding of the Law of Void, thereby increasing the level of his Void Law Seal.
"These Rules surrounding the energy feel somewhat similar to an Authority..." Evan muttered after observing the orb carefully.
Using an Authority was like altering the Rules that governed the world in order to produce a different outcome.
For example, when Evan activated his Death Guardian Authority, all of his stats increased fivefold for five seconds.
At the same time, during those five seconds, he could not be harmed by anyone.
Even if he were merely a Rank One Core Evolver, under the effect of the Death Guardian Authority, even a Rank Six Core Evolver would be unable to injure him during those five seconds.
The reason for this was simple.
By using the Death Guardian Authority, he was essentially changing the very Rules that governed the world.
Or, to be more precise, he was temporarily adding another Rule to the already existing ones.
Through his Authority, he added a Rule stating that, for the next five seconds, nothing could harm him.
The Minor Rank Advancement Orb functioned in a somewhat similar manner.
A Rule had been engraved within the orb.
That Rule stated that anyone below Rank Five who consumed the orb would advance by one minor rank.
The difference between an Authority and the Rules inscribed within the orb was that, unlike an Authority, which could only temporarily add Rules to the world, the Rules engraved within the orb were permanent.
Once someone consumed the orb, its effects would not disappear after a short duration like an Authority.
Instead, the Rules contained within the orb would permanently raise the user’s rank.
Evan tried to understand the Rules engraved within the orb.
However, he immediately felt like a backbencher kindergarten student, trying to solve advanced mathematics.
"Forget about the Rules engraved inside the orb... Even replicating this milky-white energy won’t be easy," Evan muttered under his breath with a slight frown.
"Do I need to consume the orb myself in order to understand the true essence of this energy and the Rules?" He pondered thoughtfully.
Using the Rune of Absorption, Evan could replicate almost any kind of energy.
However, there was one prerequisite.
He needed to possess at least a basic understanding of the energy he wished to replicate.
It was just like the energy contained within Void Crystals.
When he had still been a Rank Three Core Evolver, Evan had used the Rune of Absorption to transform the energy contained within dead bodies into energy similar to that found inside Void Crystals.
Because of that, he had been able to increase his understanding of the Conceptual Energy of Void with ease.
However, when he later attempted to transform the energy inside the dead bodies into something capable of increasing his understanding of the Conceptual Energies of Life, Soul, and Death, he had failed completely.
The reason was simple.
Unlike the energy contained within Void Crystals, which served as a reference for the Conceptual Energy of Void, he possessed no such reference for the Conceptual Energies of Life, Soul, or Death.
Only after obtaining something similar to a Void Crystal, an item capable of increasing one’s understanding of the Conceptual Energy of Life, Soul, or Death, would he be able to use the Rune of Absorption to replicate that energy.
Fortunately, because of the Fruit of Life that Anastasia had scammed from Eilistraea, Evan already possessed a reference for increasing his understanding of the Conceptual Energy of Life.
Returning to the main issue...
The reason Evan hesitated to consume the Minor Rank Advancement Orb was because he only had one.
Once he used it, there would be no second chance.
If he succeeded in gaining even a slight understanding of the energy and Rules contained within the orb, there was a possibility that he would eventually be able to replicate them.
But if he failed...his dream of creating a high-level army through these orbs would be shattered before it had even begun.
Evan stared at the orb in his hand for several minutes before finally making up his mind.
"The idea of creating a high-level army was just a sudden inspiration. Even if it fails, I won’t really lose anything..." He muttered, consoling himself.
He slowly brought the Minor Rank Advancement Orb toward his mouth.
However, just as he was about to toss it inside, something suddenly flashed through his mind.
His hand immediately stopped, and he quickly pulled the orb back.
"Right... I completely forgot about that thing," He murmured to himself, his eyes gleaming faintly.
"Although the chances are low... I should at least give it a try first."
