Chapter 856: A Quiet Home
Chapter 856: A Quiet Home
Cured of her blindness and settled in a new home surrounded by people she loved, Maryline–the slave from Elenaris, later sold into Eclanor–was quietly enjoying the morning when the news about the hero coming back to town hit her ears. She’d met the man once and only once, back at the inn, and from what little she knew, Monty–her betrothed–worked for him.
A dangerous line of work he dabbled in, but to the extent he had to go, she had no idea or say in. The thought of him going to report back to his employer terrified her to her deepest core, and so keeping the secret to herself, she retired to the kitchen.
The sizzle of breakfast and the whistling of the kettle echoed in the otherwise quiet room. Distracted by her thought, she stared at the strips of meat nearly burning on the magic stoves. It wasn’t until Lincy walked up beside her and reached for the pan’s handle that she realized what was happening. With a blink, she gave way for the puppy girl to take over, and although she did, Lincy narrowed her eyebrows and curiously stared at the girl.
"Are your eyes giving you trouble again?" She asked, a flash of genuine worry apparent in her gaze.
Shaking her head, Maryline tried to set Lincy’s worries at ease and snap herself out of the daze. Coming a little lightheaded on the other end, she was quickly taken to the dining table and sat in a chair. Once the demi-pup had turned off the stove, she returned to Maryline to check up on her some more.
Grabbing hold of her face, she peered into her eyes, but they didn’t seem cloudy. Her vision was clear, and no lingering effects from back home were plaguing her. Then why? When asked, the girl didn’t want to admit at first, but on the pup’s insistence, she eventually gave in and relayed the news of the hero’s return to her.
Smiling back at her, Lincy lowered herself to her knees and squeezed Maryline’s hands resting over her thighs. A light chuckle escaped her mouth next, surprising the young woman.
"He will be fine," holding her hands firm, Lincy gave her a springy nod. "I used to worry about my little brother a lot before you joined us as well, but trust me, he has more courage and luck than both of us combined, haha~."
"I...I hope you’re right," forcing a smile on her face, Maryline tried masking her worries. "Where is he, though? I haven’t seen him today."
Lincy’s eyes narrowed to the question. Come to think of it, she hadn’t seen him either. As the two girls united their worry, the spy had already slipped out of the house long ago and back in the ’Phordite mansion, he stood before the hero with a new task being handed to him.
Sitting in a chair in Ophelia’s office while she was gone to Eclanor, Raven was relaying what he’d heard from Darius and how his friend won’t be carrying any more messages from the mistress; instead, it had to be Monty. Already familiar with the master of the maze, the spy wasn’t too surprised at being picked. However, he did have one question.
"You want to invite her to the banquet, but wait until then? Wouldn’t it make more sense to meet her as soon as possible since the message was sent a while ago already?"
Shifting his crossed legs to the other side, Raven leaned forward with his head resting on the back of his right hand. Squinting at the spy, he explained further.
"Me going there and her coming out here are going to have different effects. I don’t want her to think that she can order me around or summon me whenever. We might strive for mutual benefit, but our relationship isn’t going to be on equal footing–not against a greedy succubus that would just devour all the respect and loyalty one gives her."
"Social standings then," nodding his head, Monty quickly turned around and started walking. "I will pass her the invite, but as always, every task will cost you gold. Same as it would for anyone else."
"Of course," the hero responded, leaning back in his chair.
Only a few seconds after Monty was gone, however, a sudden commotion was heard in the hallway. Far from chaotic enough to rouse alarm, Raven remained seated to let the servants handle whatever mess had been created. But instead of quiet, he was met with a cheer, a cheer of girls as Tanya, Aura, and the trio of milfs walked into Ophelia’s office.
Eccentric as ever, Tanya was the first to rush over to him. Waiting not even a second, she sat down in his lap and leaned onto his chest. Grunting at her sister’s act, Aura stood by the two–a bit jealous that she hadn’t gotten to him first, but masked it with a look of frustration instead.
The others were far more reserved in their display of affection. Simply standing before Raven with their flashy clothes showing intimate skin was enough for them, for now at least.
The desperation in their voice and the way they’d dressed was not lost on the hero either. He knew what they wanted: a few hours of intimacy at the very least, and then pillow talk and cuddling together. With everyone else in the mansion still scattered, some in Eclanor and the others wandering outdoors, there was no better time than the present to spend with the girls–especially since once the party members were back, both they and the monster girls, along with numerous guests, would require his attention.
Thus, with a smile, he got up and wrapped his arms around Tanya’s hips before doing the same for Aura. Walking towards the other girls, he stood confidently before them.
"Good to see you all again," he said, and their hearts melted.
Blushing red, they moved by his side and placed a hand on his shoulders, his arms, and his sides. Guiding them towards the living quarters, Raven had no reason to say what was going on, as the girls already knew, as they had been expecting it ever since this morning. With braced hearts and clenched pussies, they followed him into his room and the door went shut...
