Nexus Ascension: My Comprehension Defies the Heaven

Chapter 490: Divergence Line

Chapter 490: Divergence Line

"This kid..." Yellow Ancestor and Silver-Moon Ancestor had already arrived in the Immortal Sovereign Palace, which was now completely devoid of any beings from the palace itself.

They were observing Grey, who was currently sitting cross-legged in the air.

Grey believed there was no better opportunity than this.

With the Fragment protecting him, he could safely gain comprehension over the law of time.

[Your comprehension defies the heavens! By absorbing the already comprehended insight into the law of time, you have gained comprehension into the law of time.]

[Your comprehension defies the heavens! By absorbing the already comprehended insight into the law of time, you have gained comprehension into the law of time.]

The following moment, something snapped inside Grey.

It was a complete power reset.

[Your comprehension defies the heavens! Your comprehension over the law of time has reached minor succession.]

[Your comprehension defies the heavens! Your comprehension over the law of time has reached major succession.]

[You have unlocked power over time.]

[You have gained the power of temporal control.]

"That’s all? No abilities?" Grey blinked in speechlessness.

[It is the Heavenly One. It set a rule barring anyone from learning a specific ability from the time law.]

[It is pretty hard to crack. I have been trying to crack it for a while, but the method it used is far more advanced than the one I used when I was the Heavenly Dao.]

"Hm." Grey looked thoughtful as he opened his eyes.

The laws after major succession stopped giving one distinct abilities. This was because the leap to advanced succession relied on refining raw mastery rather than relying on fixed skills. Furthermore, there was only one stage above advanced succession: Great Circle. This stage signified the law and the user forming a complete cycle, grasping the law as their absolute own.

Right now, if he wasn’t wrong, all the ancestors at the 8th rank must have comprehended a law to the Great Circle to reach their current power, and there could only be one Great Circle being per law in the universe.

Going to other universes was also a viable option to bypass this limit.

"Now, let’s test what I can do."

Grey’s vision flashed, and the next moment, he saw a grey colored current flowing around him.

"Huh." Grey disrupted the flow out of curiosity. Using temporal control, he pushed frequential power into the current, and it immediately broke.

Boom!

The instant the flow was disrupted, the world flashed grey.

Time was stopped!

This time stop held no physical strain over him. However, with each passing moment, the energy in his source was being rapidly consumed to prevent the time currents from restoring themselves, as the world actively tried to break out of Grey’s temporal control.

Ten seconds, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, sixty... once it hit the sixty-second mark, Grey’s overall energy was completely emptied out.

But the Fragment used its power to restore his energy back to full just as quickly.

As soon as time resumed, Silver-Moon Ancestor asked with a dumbfounded expression, "Did you just stop time?"

Time had stopped for them as well. Because Grey was not using borrowed power, he was quite literally halting the natural flow of time in this world. They were able to sense the gap in time, because borrowed their power from the Origin Will, but they could not do anything about it due to the Fragment’s interference. He temporarily made them unable to do anything about the time stop.

Grey didn’t reply to the ancestors; he wanted to test something else out.

But just then, the Fragment’s cautious voice rang out.

[You absolutely cannot go forward in time or into the past. Your existence is not powerful enough to bear the weight.]

"Huh? Why?" Grey frowned.

He had finally reached major succession, and he couldn’t fulfill his dream of time traveling?

[Divergence lines,] the Fragment spoke.

"Divergence lines?" Grey tilted his head.

[Yes. Divergence lines. Commonly known as World Lines.]

[Each time you use your time power to go forward or backward in time, you are essentially creating a new world according to the rules of the endless reality.]

[It does not matter how short the jump is. The instant you skip forward or shoot back into the past, a divergence is created from the main world, forming a separate reality. You are essentially jumping into that new reality when you use the law of time. But in the original timeline, the ’Grey’ there would have never traveled in time. Considering the fact that you have no one to support you, like the Dao of Time or the Origin Will, the divergence line created by your choice will become your sole responsibility. Your current existence is not powerful enough to hold the weight of an entire world and if you can’t hold the weight, you will collapse from it.]

[But... this is only normally applicable to those bound by space and time who use the actual law of time.]

The Fragment sounded bewildered as it observed Grey closely.

[This does not apply to you. Because you, Grey Lockhart, can only exist in one space-time continuum.]

[There are multiple divergence lines around the main world where some timelines have already reached their finality, but not a single one of them contains you. It is like the world you are currently in is the only real one, and any other world that does not contain you is inherently fake.]

[I do not know what will happen if you go forward and use your time powers.]

[Won’t the main world be destroyed if the theory of skipping to the diverged line applies to you?]

"Why would it be destroyed?" Grey was confused.

[Because the main world acts as the anchor. Since you are a fateless anomaly, whichever timeline you exist in is automatically treated as the true main world. If you create a divergence line and jump to it, the original main world will be overwritten and destroyed. World destruction leads to a massive loss of origin energy.]

[Hence, if my calculations are right, each time you skip through time, you will destroy a main world and cause an origin loss. By your twentieth time skip or so, the entire universe would have lost so much origin energy that it will be entirely erased from existence.]

Boom!

"The Heavenly Dao is correct." Just then, an ethereal voice drilled directly into Grey’s mind.

"Origin Will." Grey’s expression changed drastically.
