Chapter 654: The Abyss?
Chapter 654: The Abyss?
What they saw made Grey’s expression turn cold.
An abyssal general stood at the center of a massive corruption zone near the alter, his body covered in dark scales and pulsing with malevolent energy. Behind him, an army of abyssal soldiers stretched across the landscape, their forms twisted and grotesque.
They were all pushing their abyssal power into the zone, feeding it with life essence taken from who knows where.
And at the center of that corruption zone, something was forming.
A beast from the Abyss.
Grey’s eyes widened as he recognized what it was.
"It’s a Lesser Heaven."
Both he and the Heavenly Dao’s fragment resonated with the power emanating from the forming creature.
"But why are they inside this place specifically?" Grey muttered with confusion.
That’s what he didn’t understand.
The Abyss had no business being in this universe. And yet here they were, summoning a Lesser Heaven at the exact location of the ancient altar.
Did they want to use the Lesser Heaven to achieve something?
A Lesser Heaven was not just an object for travel. It was also devourers of worlds.
But from the looks of it, these people just arrived here as he couldn’t sense the Suppressant DNA.
This couldn’t be a coincidence.
Grey turned to Eterna with a serious expression.
"There’s no need to hesitate here. Kill them all without hesitation."
Eterna nodded without a word.
They shot forward together.
The abyssal general sensed their approach immediately.
"Intruders!" he roared. "Stop them!"
His name was Vexarion, a towering figure with four arms and horns that curved backward like a demon’s crown. His eyes burned with crimson fire as he pointed toward Grey and Eterna.
"Lord Zarvoketh will not be pleased if you let them interfere!"
The army moved as one.
Hundreds of abyssal soldiers charged toward Grey and Eterna, their weapons dripping with corruption energy.
Grey grinned at the sight.
"Heh."
His fist connected with the first soldier’s face, sending the creature flying backward into dozens of its comrades.
"One down," Grey counted cheerfully. "A few hundred more to go."
Eterna materialized a massive cannon from thin air and fired.
A beam of concentrated data energy swept through the abyssal ranks, disintegrating everything in its path.
But something strange happened.
The disintegrated soldiers began reforming.
Their bodies pulled themselves back together from scattered particles, regenerating completely within seconds.
"What the hell?" Grey frowned.
He punched another soldier into pieces, watching as it reformed moments later.
"They just keep coming back!"
Eterna fired again, destroying a dozen soldiers at once.
But just as quickly, they all regenerated.
"Grey, there’s something sustaining their regeneration," Eterna reported. "I can’t identify the source."
Grey dodged a corrupted blade aimed at his neck and responded with a devastating kick that sent the attacker flying.
"Then let’s find it."
He scanned the battlefield with his Mecha Race ability, golden circuits flickering in his eyes.
The data flooded into his server.
Every regenerating soldier had a connection to something. A thread of energy linking them to a single point.
Grey traced those threads back to their source.
And there he was.
Standing behind the abyssal general was another figure, radiating far more dangerous energy than anyone else present.
His name was Zarvoketh, the true leader of this operation.
He was a monstrous creature with six arms extending from his torso, each one ending in clawed fingers that dripped with black ichor. His skin was pale grey and covered in glowing purple veins that pulsed rhythmically. His face was elongated with hollow cheeks and eyes that burned with sickly green fire.
In two of his six hands, he clutched a artifact that looked like a heart made of pure darkness.
"Found you," Grey smiled.
He blitzed through the army, ignoring the soldiers completely.
Vexarion moved to intercept him.
"You will not touch Lord Zarvoketh!"
The four-armed general swung all his weapons simultaneously, creating a wall of corrupted steel.
Grey didn’t slow down.
"Divine Shattered Shock."
His fist met Vexarion’s attack head-on.
The general’s weapons shattered into pieces, and the shockwave sent him crashing into the ground.
Vexarion regenerated instantly, pulling himself back together.
"Fool! As long as the Heart of Endless Corruption exists, we cannot be killed!"
Grey rolled his eyes.
"Thanks for telling me the name. Really appreciate the free information."
Even though he could’ve taken that information right out of the Information Layer he thanked him.
He continued toward Zarvoketh.
Three more abyssal lords appeared to block his path.
The first was Thessara, a female abyssal with serpentine features and venomous fangs dripping with corruption.
The second was Gorrath, a massive brute covered in bone armor and wielding a hammer bigger than Grey’s entire body.
The third was Nixar, a shadowy figure that seemed to phase in and out of existence, wielding twin daggers that left trails of darkness.
"You shall not pass!" Thessara hissed dramatically.
Grey laughed out loud.
"Did you seriously just say that? Are you trying to sound cool on purpose? Because it’s not working."
Thessara’s face twisted with rage.
"Insolent Evolver!"
She lunged at Grey with blinding speed, her fangs aimed at his throat.
Grey sidestepped casually and flicked her forehead with his finger.
The impact sent her flying across the battlefield like a ragdoll.
"Next."
Gorrath roared and swung his massive hammer downward with world-shattering force.
Grey caught it with one hand.
"This is supposed to be impressive?" he asked mockingly. "I’ve seen children hit harder than this."
He ripped the hammer from Gorrath’s grip and smashed it into the brute’s face.
Gorrath crashed into the ground, creating a massive crater.
Nixar appeared behind Grey, daggers aimed at his back.
Grey didn’t even turn around.
"Eterna."
A technological barrier materialized behind him, blocking the daggers completely.
Eterna appeared beside Nixar and grabbed him by the throat.
"You’re too slow."
She slammed him into the ground with enough force to crack the ground beneath them.
All three abyssal lords regenerated within seconds.
Grey sighed dramatically.
"This is getting really annoying. You guys are like cockroaches that won’t stay dead."
He turned his attention back to Zarvoketh.
The six-armed creature was watching the battle with an amused expression.
"You cannot win," Zarvoketh said with a rasping voice that sounded like nails scraping against bone. "As long as I hold this artifact, my army is immortal. You will tire eventually, and then you will fall."
Grey cracked his neck casually.
"Then I’ll just have to take it from you. Problem solved."
He activated Nexus Overclock once again.
The luminous circuits across his body blazed with blinding light that made the abyssal soldiers recoil.
Grey moved so fast that even Zarvoketh’s six eyes couldn’t track him.
One moment he was standing among the regenerating soldiers.
The next moment he was directly in front of Zarvoketh.
"Hi there," Grey grinned. "Nice artifact you’ve got."
Zarvoketh’s eyes widened in shock.
"Impossible!"
All six of his arms moved simultaneously, trying to grab Grey or push him away.
But Grey’s hand was already around the artifact.
"I’ll be taking this."
Grey ripped the Heart of Endless Corruption from Zarvoketh’s grip.
The artifact pulsed violently in his hand, trying to corrupt him with all its power. Dark tendrils shot out and wrapped around his arm.
Grey’s Nexus Energy flared, and the corruption was instantly purified.
"Nice try," he said with a bored expression. "But my energy doesn’t tolerate imperfection. Your little corruption trick is useless against me."
Across the battlefield, every abyssal soldier suddenly stopped regenerating.
Their bodies began falling apart without the artifact sustaining them.
Vexarion, Thessara, Gorrath, and Nixar all screamed in agony as their forms destabilized.
"No!" Zarvoketh shrieked, his six arms flailing wildly. "Give it back! That belongs to the Abyss!"
Grey looked at him with sympathy.
"Sorry, but I don’t think I will. Finders keepers."
He crushed the Heart of Endless Corruption in his palm.
The artifact shattered into pieces, its power dissipating into nothing.
Every abyssal soldier on the battlefield disintegrated simultaneously, their screams fading into silence.
Only the five leaders remained, their bodies weakened without the artifact’s support.
Vexarion struggled to his feet, his form flickering unstably.
"You... you will pay for this!"
Grey walked toward him casually with his hands in his pockets.
"Will I? Because from where I’m standing, you guys look pretty pathetic right now. Like a bunch of wet kittens trying to look scary."
Thessara hissed weakly.
"The Abyss will have its revenge! You cannot escape our wrath!"
Grey raised an eyebrow at her threat.
"The Abyss can try. But honestly, if this is the best they’ve got, I’m not too worried. Maybe send someone competent next time?"
He turned to Eterna.
"Finish them off. Leave Zarvoketh alive. I have questions for the six-armed freak."
Eterna nodded without hesitation.
She raised her hand, and four technological constructs appeared around the remaining abyssal lords.
"Elimination protocol initiated."
The constructs fired simultaneously.
Vexarion, Thessara, Gorrath, and Nixar were erased from existence in an instant. Not even dust remained.
Only Zarvoketh remained, trembling on the ground before Grey with all six arms spread in submission.
Grey knelt down beside him with a cold smile.
"Now then," he said. "Let’s have a chat about what exactly you were trying to do here. And don’t even think about lying to me."
"And if u are truthful. I’ll let you go."
