Chapter 114.2: Who Set Up Whom? (2)
Fan Nuo’er stood up from the ground with Han Minghong’s support, snuggling into his embrace, “This concubine likes it here a lot!”
“Haha, that’s good.” Han Minghong said with a wide smile.
“Master, the Empress Dowager invites you over.” A guard said from outside the door.
“This Emperor knows, I’ll go over right away,” Han Minghong answered. “Wait here, don’t come outside no matter what you hear. I have arranged for people to protect you here, so it’s very safe.”
“This concubine understands. Thank you for your concern, Your Majesty.” Fan Nuo’er agreed shyly, “Emperor, stay safe. This concubine and her child are here waiting for you to return.”
“Mm, this Emperor will. You rest early.” Han Minghong finished by kissing Fan Nuo’er on the forehead before striding away.
Fan Nuo’er watched Han Minghong leave with a happy look on her face. She had indeed been attracted by Han Mingyi’s looks when she saw him before. However, after being with Han Minghong, she had slowly been attracted to his gentleness by day and bravery in bed at night– and somewhere along the way, she had fallen for him. Now that she was pregnant with his child, he treated her even better. She felt that this was the kind of life she wanted to lead, instead of spending her life in the mountain nooks and craggly crannies of the Medicine King’s Valley.
Han Minghong stepped outside and glanced at the guard, “Where is Empress Mother?”
“The Empress Dowager has already gone to the imperial study. She said she wanted Master to go directly there now,” the guard replied.
“Then let’s head to the imperial study.” Han Minghong started walking to the imperial study, and the guards hurriedly followed behind him.
Han Mingze, tonight is it for you– are you enjoying your final moments of life? After tonight, I will replace you as the most precious man in Feng Ming!
In the Cold Palace, the Empress was sitting on her bed, leaning against the wall. She stared blankly at the roof. Underneath her was buried the most important thing in Feng Ming. Tonight was the deadline– she didn’t know if she could keep what he had handed over to her…
When Han Minghong arrived at the imperial study, the Empress Dowager was already inside. He entered and bowed to the Empress Dowager, then sat in a chair to the side.
Han Mingze was still seated on his throne. Perhaps out of pity that he had only been able to sit on this throne for so little of his life, they left him a final shred of dignity by not tying him up as a prisoner. However, they had fed him medicine to suppress his internal energy, so right now he was just an ordinary person.
“Your Majesty, this Empress Dowager is giving you one last chance. Are you handing over the jade seal or not?” The Empress Dowager reclined in her chair unhurriedly, looking at the unusually calm Han Mingze. “If you hand it over, for the sake of our mother-son relationship all these years, I can ask Hong’er spare your life. If you don’t hand it over, then don’t blame your Empress Mother for disregarding our mother-son relationship.”
Han Mingze looked at the Empress Dowager’s pretentious face and smiled lightly, “Empress Mother, have you ever truly considered me your son? If this Emperor hadn’t hidden the jade seal, you probably would have killed me on the day of the palace rebellion, right?”
“Is Your Majesty saying that you won’t hand it over?” The Empress Dowager responded quietly.
“The jade seal isn’t even with me right now, how would this Emperor hand it over? Either way ends in death, why would I make it so easy for you?” Han Mingze replied with a smile, not at all fearful of dying. “Minghong wants to be Emperor, doesn’t he? Then this Emperor will only let you be an Emperor in title, how about it?”
“You!” Han Minghong stood up from his chair in a flash, glaring at Han Mingze with a face of fury.
“Hong’er.” The Empress Dowager called out to the raging Han Minghong and looked at Han Mingze slyly, “I think there are a few people the Emperor would like to see. Bring them up.” Upon her words, Han Mingze’s several children were all brought in.
“Father Emperor.”
“Father Emperor.”
The children, all in tears, wanted to run towards Han Mingze when they saw him, but were restrained by the people surrounding them.
“Your Majesty is very alert. You hid all the royal children outside of the palace when you realized something was wrong. Although you hid them well, they were still found by this Empress Dowager’s people. Emperor, how about now– are you willing to reveal where the jade seal is?” The Empress Dowager looked at the crying royal children without the slightest hint of pity.
