Chapter 1503: Chapter 1500: Good News
Lu Chuan had a faint smile on his face as he turned and left.
Ye Muyu instructed Su Mei to go to the accounts room to get the silver money for Lu Chuan. To handle affairs, silver money is essential, and Lu Chuan, being an old friend, is trustworthy.
Su Mei nodded, turned, and went to the accounts room, collected the silver, and specifically went to the front yard to find Lu Chuan.
Just as she reached the doorway, Su Mei saw the door was ajar. Before she could speak, she saw Lu Chuan hastily tidying up his clothes and coming over to ask, “Is there something you need from me?”
Su Mei glanced him up and down, enough to make Lu Chuan blush deeply.
“The lady asked me to bring you the silver.”
Lu Chuan coughed lightly, reached out, and took it: “Thank you.”
“Hmm.” Su Mei turned to leave, and Lu Chuan, unguarded, suddenly had his clothing pulled apart.
“You’re injured.” Su Mei frowned, looking at the blood-stained bandage on his waist; it seemed the wound was quite severe.
Instantly, Lu Chuan’s cheeks turned as red as fiery clouds. He stammered, trying to cover up: “It’s just an accident, nothing serious.”
“I am not concerned for you.” Su Mei looked up at him, her gaze calm and composed, which made Lu Chuan’s initial embarrassment and quickening heartbeat quickly stabilize, as if doused with a bucket of cold water. Unable to control his expression, his eyes filled with disappointment.
Su Mei, being a smart person, could easily see through it.
She pursed her lips and reminded him: “In such chaotic times, you should focus on what the master and lady have instructed.”
Hearing this, Lu Chuan felt a bit awkward and nodded quickly: “You are right.”
Seeing him, a grown man, with teary eyes and so innocent, Su Mei wondered internally if she had been too harsh: “How did you get injured?”
Hearing the sudden softness in Su Mei’s voice, although Lu Chuan didn’t understand why, he was very pleased and replied honestly: “It happened while helping the master with something, it had nothing to do with trailing those rumor-makers.”
“I understand. Next time, don’t hide it from the lady; she would be upset.” Su Mei kindly reminded him.
Lu Chuan scratched his head, nodding to show he understood. Seeing that Su Mei was about to leave, he couldn’t help but express concern: “You… remember to stay by the lady’s side.”
“I understand.” Su Mei nodded and turned to leave.
Lu Chuan watched her figure retreating, sighed with regret only once she was far gone, and returned to his room, applying ointment to his wound, sweating from the pain, the hardship of it needing no further words.
Meanwhile, Su Mei returned to the courtyard and saw Ye Muyu with the Young Master, so she immediately mentioned Lu Chuan’s injury.
Ye Muyu recalled what Chu Heng said before leaving, advising her to go to the Manor if anything happened, as it would be safer there, filling her with some worry.
It wasn’t for herself she worried, but for the fear that Chu Heng might encounter more dangers outside than she would.
“Call someone to find Doctor Lu to buy some ointment.” Ye Muyu instructed.
Su Mei nodded and turned to handle this task.
“Ah ah ah…” Nuanbao made sounds, his small hands grasping hers with some strength, pulling it toward his mouth.
Ye Muyu chuckled out loud, her earlier panic strangely calming down at the sight of his adorable appearance. With a child around, her only thought now was to protect them well, not giving Chu Heng any worries about the family so he could focus on his tasks outside.
“Alright, alright, here, take the pacifier.” Ye Muyu produced the pacifier made of sheep intestines.
