Chapter 542: Diana’s Shocking Revelation
Chapter 542: Diana’s Shocking Revelation
Diana looked at Grace, her voice steady and commanding despite the bloodbath surrounding them. She kept one arm wrapped tightly around my waist, refusing to let go even for a second.
"Send anyone who is still alive from our people to the hospital immediately. Use the emergency medical team. And check on Linda and Selena — find out if they’ve escaped or if they’re still hiding somewhere in the building. I want them found and secured. Do it now."
Grace nodded sharply, but her face was still pale with disbelief. She holstered her gun and glanced around at the corpses once more, her eyes lingering on the clean slashes across every throat.
"But... Boss... what the hell just happened here?" she asked, voice low and shaken.
"It’s like a ghost went through them. We were standing right in front of them. I had my gun up, I was ready to fire... and then suddenly their guns are gone, their necks are cut open, and they drop like flies."
"I didn’t see anything. Not a single movement. I still don’t actually believe it... It doesn’t make any sense."
Diana smiled softly, a calm, almost mysterious smile that hid everything she now understood. She gently stroked my back with her thumb while speaking to Grace.
"Don’t worry about it, Grace. If there really is such a ghost... and if he wanted to kill us, he would have done it already. But he didn’t. He protected us. He protected me. So stop thinking about it for now. Just do your job."
Grace stared at her for a long moment, clearly wanting to push for more answers, but she knew better than to question Diana when she used that tone. She finally nodded.
"Understood, Boss. I’ll handle it."
Diana turned fully to me, her expression softening instantly. The cold leader disappeared, replaced by the woman who had just been ready to die for me. She pulled me closer, pressing her body against mine as if she still needed to shield me from the world.
"Let’s go out of this place," she whispered, her voice warm and full of relief. "I don’t want you breathing this disgusting air for another second."
She laced her fingers tightly with mine and started walking, pulling me gently but firmly toward the exit. As we stepped over the bodies, she leaned her head on my shoulder and spoke so quietly only I could hear:
"We’ll talk about it properly when we’re alone. But right now... I just want to get you somewhere safe and hold you."
Her eyes were still glistening with unshed tears — not from fear, but from overwhelming love and gratitude. She kissed the side of my neck softly as we walked.
"Thank you, Dexter... for being my ghost. For being my protector."
Behind us, Grace was already barking orders into her earpiece, organizing the cleanup and the search for Linda and Selena.
But Diana didn’t look back even once. Her entire focus was on me — the man she loved, the man who had just proven he would kill for her without hesitation.
As we stepped out of the underground corridor and into the cool night air, Diana never once let go of my hand. She walked close beside me, her body still pressed protectively against mine even though the immediate danger was gone.
Grace had already disappeared to handle the cleanup, barking orders into her earpiece as she coordinated the survivors and the search for Linda and Selena.
A sleek black armored SUV was waiting for us just outside the villa gates, engine already running.
Diana opened the passenger door for me first, gently guiding me inside before sliding into the driver’s seat herself. The moment the doors closed and the locks clicked, she let out a long, shaky breath and started the car.
The tires crunched over gravel as we pulled away from the blood-soaked building, the distant sound of sirens already approaching from far away.
I sat in the passenger seat, watching her profile in the soft glow of the dashboard lights. Diana’s hands gripped the steering wheel tightly at first, knuckles white, before she slowly relaxed. She reached over with her right hand and laced her fingers with mine again, resting our joined hands on her thigh as she drove.
After several minutes of silence, she finally spoke, her voice soft but steady.
"I know what you’re thinking right now," she said quietly, glancing at me with a small, knowing smile. "You’re wondering how I understood so quickly... how I accepted what you did without any fear or confusion. Right?"
I nodded silently.
Diana let out a gentle laugh, the sound warm and full of affection. She squeezed my hand tighter as the car smoothly accelerated down the dark highway.
"When you used that power... I felt it too," she explained, her voice calm and clear, exactly matching what I had guessed moments earlier.
"The moment you activated it, I was still pressed tightly against your chest. My arms were wrapped around you, my body touching yours completely. That physical contact pulled me into the same slowed world with you."
She took a small breath, eyes fixed on the road, but her thumb was gently stroking the back of my hand.
"Everything suddenly became... slow. So impossibly slow. I saw you move — not as a blur, but as something graceful and terrifyingly fast. I watched you leave my arms for a split second, and then return before I could even finish blinking."
"The world around us was frozen, but because I was touching you, I wasn’t frozen with it. I got a glimpse. Just enough to understand that you had done something impossible... something only you could do."
Diana turned her head slightly to look at me, her eyes shining with awe and love under the passing streetlights.
"That’s why I didn’t panic or question it back there. I already knew it was you. I felt the shift when you held me again. The moment your arms wrapped around me the second time, time felt normal again... but I already understood everything. You didn’t just save us. You took me with you into that power for those few seconds."
She lifted our joined hands and kissed the back of mine tenderly before placing them back on her thigh.
"I’m not afraid of you, Dexter. Not even a little. If anything... I feel safer than I’ve ever felt in my entire life. Knowing that the man I love can move like a god and protect me — protect us — like that... it makes me fall in love with you even more."
