Chapter 952: Chapter 1169: Flow State

In battles between Pokémon, no matter how large the gap in strength was—even if one side knew it had no chance of winning—deep down, there was still a desire for victory.

This desire for victory was the greatest driving force behind a Pokémon's pursuit of strength.

Victory was what it wanted—and also the best gift it could offer its trainer.

"Meta!"

Mega Metagross's voice was as steady as ever, but this time Jake could feel the intense fighting spirit burning within it, and its desire to win.

"You kid."

Jake burst into laughter. "Today, I'll show you just how strong your old man and Metagross really are!"

"Meta!"

Mega Metagross let out another low cry, as if responding to him.

Something had changed!

Julian's eyes widened slightly.

The connection between his father and Mega Metagross had shifted, as if it was slowly merging into one.

This was the Flow State!

He was utterly astonished.

For a Trainer to enter the Flow State with their Pokémon was akin to a moment of enlightenment in a fantasy novel—it was something that could only be encountered by chance, not sought after.

Achieving this state required a deep bond, synchronization, and emotional resonance between Trainer and Pokémon.

Julian recalled that the last time his father had entered the Flow State with Metagross, he had broken through a bottleneck and become a Champion. Back then, Jake's pressure came from Yveltal, and his motivation was, naturally, to protect his family.

Now, Jake's pressure came from Dragonite, and his motivation was to defeat Julian.

Julian didn't rush to attack.

Jake and Mega Metagross had only just entered the Flow State, and it wasn't yet stable. If he attacked now, it would easily break them out of it.

This was his own father, not an enemy.

Moreover, the Flow State was an incredibly rare phenomenon that brought great benefits to both Trainer and Pokémon.

If he interrupted it, Julian would truly be an unfilial son.

After about two minutes, Jake and Mega Metagross's Flow State had fully stabilized.

"Metagross, Meteor Mash!"

In this state, Jake didn't need to speak aloud—his thoughts were directly transmitted into Mega Metagross's mind.

The Walker family's signature Pokémon was the silver Metagross, and its signature move was Meteor Mash.

Seeing Mega Metagross's stance, Julian already knew what move it was about to use.

Even Dragonite was very familiar with it—after all, it often sparred with Metagross in private and had been hit by its Meteor Mash countless times.

Swoosh—

Mega Metagross moved at blinding speed. Over such a short distance, it was almost like teleportation.

In the blink of an eye, it was right in front of Dragonite, bringing its Meteor Mash down from above. The pressure emanating from its fist actually made Dragonite feel as if it was facing its own partner.

"Mega Punch!"

Dragonite met the attack head-on.

Their fists collided with tremendous force. At the epicenter, a brilliant white light appeared, as if an atomic fission had occurred.

As the light illuminated the entire battlefield, everyone present instinctively closed their eyes.

Then, an explosion even more terrifying than the earlier clash of Dragon Pulse and Hyper Beam erupted. A white arc of energy formed, and countless shockwaves sliced through everything around them like blades.

The arc slammed heavily into the protective barrier.

Deoxys continuously poured psychic energy into maintaining the barrier.

It couldn't help but marvel—both Dragonite and Mega Metagross were displaying power far beyond their levels.

It also cast an impressed glance toward Jake. As its Trainer's father, he was clearly no ordinary opponent either.

Under the force of the explosion, both Dragonite and Mega Metagross were blasted away, crashing heavily against the protective barrier.

This time, their clash had actually ended in a draw.

Under the Flow State, Mega Metagross had undoubtedly grown even stronger.

Of course, this state wasn't without its drawbacks.

Julian noticed that Jake had also taken a few steps back, and his face had turned noticeably paler than before.

In the Flow State, Trainer and Pokémon were connected as one—any damage the Pokémon took would also be partially reflected onto the trainer.

Of course, the Trainer endured far less than the Pokémon. If the damage was equal, Julian's mother would already be a widow by now.

"Dragonite, hit and run."

Julian's voice transmitted into Dragonite's mind.

This was telepathy, not Julian entering the Flow State himself.

Calling for hit-and-run tactics didn't mean Dragonite was no match for Mega Metagross in its current state—rather, Julian wanted his father and Mega Metagross to maintain their Flow State a little longer.

If Mega Metagross took more damage, Jake's body probably wouldn't be able to maintain the Flow State.

Dragonite gave a subtle nod.

"Metagross, Hyper Beam!"

A golden beam surged forward, dragging layers of shockwaves with it.

But with Dragonite's speed, and given that both sides were now at opposite ends of the field, the distance was enough for Dragonite to dodge.

"Bullet Punch!"

Mega Metagross shot toward Dragonite.

"Double Team!"

Dragonite's body flickered, and in an instant, dozens of Dragonites appeared across the field, making it impossible to tell which was real.

Mega Metagross had no choice but to halt its Bullet Punch and immediately switch tactics.

Psychic energy swept across the entire field like a hurricane, dispelling all the illusory Dragonites until only the real one remained.

The psychic force then engulfed Dragonite in an instant.

Though it couldn't completely immobilize Dragonite, it slowed its movements drastically, and Mega Metagross seized the opportunity to close in.

While maintaining the psychic hold, it struck with Meteor Mash.

Multitasking was no challenge for a Champion-level Pokémon, especially for Metagross, whose supercomputer brain could perfectly calculate the output ratio of its Steel-type and Psychic-type energy, ensuring maximum power from both moves simultaneously.

BOOM!!!

Under the psychic restraint, Dragonite's movements lagged just enough—its head was struck directly by the Meteor Mash.

Its body crashed into the ground like a falling meteor.

Because the ground had also been reinforced by Deoxys's barrier, Dragonite didn't crash into it—instead, the barrier was so solid that Dragonite bounced off it heavily.

This inflicted far more damage than hitting the ground would have.

After all, landing on concrete was a very different story from landing on grass.

As it was flung back, Dragonite quickly regained control of its body and shook its dazed head. A trace of blood slowly trickled from the top of its head down toward the corner of its eye.

Not a big problem.

Though if it weren't for his father's sake, when Dragonite had been restrained by Psychic, Julian could have had it use Dragon Rush.

Psychic only bound the physical body—it couldn't restrain the energy within.

'With a son like me, Dad, you must be smiling even in your dreams.'

Julian felt that if he didn't count as a filial son, then no one in the world did.
