Chapter 964: Chapter 1181: Battle Ends

After looking through all of Julian's Pokémon, Gemma still didn't see him, so she turned to the Love beside her and asked, "Excuse me, where is Champion Walker?"

"Dee~"

Love: "My cub is over there."

Love pointed toward a semicircular building not far away—this kind of structure was typically an indoor battle arena.

Following Love inside, Gemma's attention was instantly drawn to the three Pokémon battling within: Kartana, Steelix, and Melmetal.

She had been wondering why she hadn't seen these three earlier—so they were here.

And it seemed like Kartana was fighting one against two.

Kartana's agile body kept dodging the attacks from Steelix and Melmetal, while the latter two were clearly going all out.

That show-off absolutely had to be taken down today.

If it actually managed to win a one-versus-two fight, it would become unbearably arrogant.

Steelix and Melmetal both knew that in a two-on-one situation, they absolutely couldn't lose. If they did, their trainer would skin them alive.

"ROAR!!"

Steelix let out a furious roar, slamming its tail heavily against the ground. Instantly, dozens of stone pillars over ten meters long erupted from the earth.

Kartana, who had been flying low, was forced to rise higher. With the sharp blades in its hands, it sliced through the stone pillars one by one.

Just as it cut through the last pillar, Melmetal's fist suddenly came from behind it.

Double Iron Bash!!

A powerful tearing sound filled the air as the space in front of the fist seemed compressed into something almost solid.

Leaf Blade!

Caught off guard, Kartana countered with Leaf Blade.

Bang!!

The Leaf Blade stopped one of Melmetal's fists, but Double Iron Bash was a two-hit attack—the second strike came immediately after.

BOOM!!

Kartana was hit, its body shooting out like a streak of light before crashing heavily into the barrier.

Seeing Melmetal land a hit, Steelix immediately followed up. Its massive body surged forward like a meteor, charging toward Kartana, which was sliding down the barrier.

Double-Edge!

'Today, this show-off is going down!'

Roaring inwardly, Steelix concentrated all its energy into its head, creating a massive force that stirred up the airflow within the arena.

Gemma happened to be standing right in front of Steelix.

Even though she knew the attack wasn't aimed at her, and that the arena's protective barrier would keep her safe.

Her face still turned pale with fright. If Love hadn't been supporting her from the side, she would have collapsed.

The sheer pressure generated by a Pseudo–Champion-level battle was not something a mere pseudo–Elite trainer like her could withstand.

If Double-Edge connected, Kartana would undoubtedly lose its ability to fight.

But who was Kartana?

Whether before or after being caught by Julian, it had never once slacked off in training.

Especially after joining Julian, seeing so many powerful partners around him, the inherently proud Kartana refused to fall behind them.

Its peak Pseudo–Champion strength was the result of relentless day-and-night training.

Sacred Sword!

A sharp, piercing gleam lit up its eyes, while its bladed arms glowed with a milky-white radiance. Under that sharpness, even space itself seemed to carry a faint sense of being cut apart.

Sacred Sword extended to eight meters. And as it came down, the tip of the blade left behind a nearly invisible crack in space.

The rift closed the moment it appeared.

Only Julian and Deoxys noticed it.

BOOOM—!!

Sacred Sword descended like a sky-splitting blade, colliding violently with Steelix's Double-Edge.

A massive explosion erupted, shockwaves tearing through the surroundings as Steelix was sent flying instantly.

With a heavy thud, it slammed into the protective barrier. A sword mark about half a meter long and a finger's width deep appeared on its head.

With a single strike, Kartana had broken through Steelix's head defense.

And Steelix's defense was second only to Metagross and Aggron—in other words, it ranked third in raw defensive power.

"ROAR!"

The intense pain drove Steelix into a near-frenzy.

Although Kartana had blocked Steelix's attack and even gained the upper hand, Steelix still had a partner.

Before Kartana could even catch its breath, Melmetal's Fire Punch slammed into it—sending it flying straight toward Steelix.

Steelix was already furious. The burning pain on its head made it clear that it had been injured.

That show-off had hit way too hard.

So when it saw Kartana being punched toward it by Melmetal. Its tail, gleaming with metallic luster, immediately rose high into the air.

It was unmistakably Iron Tail.

BOOOM!!

The Iron Tail slammed down, smashing Kartana into the ground. The surface instantly cracked and bulged, and countless fragments of rock shot out like bullets, striking the barrier.

"Hah! Let's see if you survive this one, you show-off."

Melmetal leapt high into the air, both fists carrying overwhelming force as it smashed down toward the already shattered ground.

"Alright, stop."

Julian called an end to the battle.

Kartana had no way to turn things around anymore. If Melmetal's fists landed, the resulting impact would likely leave it injured for at least half a month.

Melmetal withdrew its attack, looking a bit dissatisfied.

It had been annoyed with this show-off for a long time. Today was finally a chance to teach it a lesson—but its trainer had stopped things too quickly.

It still wanted to land a couple more punches.

The barrier deactivated, and Julian walked into the arena.

Steelix looked at Julian with a pitiful expression, showing him the wound on its head.

It was as if to say Kartana had hit too hard—but more than that, it was probably just acting pitiful, knowing it had been slacking off recently and made Julian angry.

Julian: 'Recently? Haven't you always been slacking off?'

Still, Steelix did look quite miserable. Julian might talk tough, but he was soft-hearted for his Pokémon. Seeing the injury on its head, he immediately took out some Potion and sprayed it on the wound.

"Stee~"

Steelix: "Kartana hit way too hard. You have to seriously scold it."

Having spent so much time around Arcanine, it had clearly picked up that habit of complaining.

Julian said irritably, "That's because you're too weak. Two against one, and you still ended up like this. You and Melmetal didn't even coordinate at all."

If their coordination had been better, even if Kartana was stronger, the two of them could have easily handled it together.

"Kar!"

"Again—both of you idiots!"

Kartana had already flown out of the ground. Although it wasn't in great condition, its fighting spirit was still burning strong.

"Kartana, that's enough," Julian said.
