Chapter 989: Regigigas Wakes Up

Chapter 989: Regigigas Wakes Up

Inside the temple, led by the staff, the newlyweds arrived before Regigigas.

Looking at the slumbering figure seated on its throne, its eyes closed in deep sleep, they noticed that due to the exceedingly long era of its dormancy, its body was now covered in lush green moss.

Beneath its throne stood three smaller slumbering Pokémon: Regirock, Regice, and Registeel.

If not for the most precise instruments confirming that all four Pokémon were emitting vital life signals, anyone would have mistaken them for statues.

"You two can only take photos here."

A staff member pointed to a spot roughly fifty meters away from Regigigas. Although this staff member appeared ordinary, he was, in fact, a genuine peak Pseudo-Champion level trainer.

If the couple made any suspicious moves, he could subdue them instantly, especially since they had no Pokémon on them.

Moreover, there were several Elite-level trainers stationed both inside and outside the temple.

Kampuchea dared to make money by letting people take photos with Regigigas only because they had made thorough preparations.

"Darling, it won’t suddenly wake up, will it?"

The woman looked fearfully at Regigigas. Even though it was clearly asleep, she couldn’t help but feel an inexplicable sense of dread.

The man’s expression was also somewhat tense. He didn’t know why, but the sight of Regigigas filled him with an inexplicable fear and nervousness.

This was the most natural human reaction when facing a top-tier predator.

Even though Regigigas was asleep, it was, after all, a First-class Legendary. Simply by sitting there, doing nothing, it could evoke fear in ordinary humans.

And this was from a distance of fifty meters. If they were any closer, the sense of dread would intensify exponentially.

Within ten to twenty meters of Regigigas, only Pseudo-Champion and Elite-level trainers could withstand the pressure.

Any closer, and their minds would begin to hallucinate.

"Alright, you two, let’s start taking photos. Strike a pose."

The staff member said, holding a specially designed camera that wouldn’t affect Regigigas or the three Regis.

The woman still felt somewhat uneasy, but after a few rounds of photos, she gradually got into the mood, and her fear began to fade away.

"Alright, one last shot."

The staff member said, positioning the camera toward Regigigas while the man kissed the woman in the foreground. After capturing this final shot, the day’s reception task would come to an end.

Through the camera lens, both the man and the woman, along with Regigigas and the three Regis, were perfectly framed in the shot.

Just as he was about to press the shutter, a light on Regigigas's chest suddenly flickered once.

The staff member was startled and immediately snapped his gaze toward Regigigas, staring intently. But this time, the light remained unlit.

"An illusion?" he muttered to himself.

It wasn't the first time something like this had happened. Deep down, everyone stationed here secretly harbored the fear—or perhaps the fantasy—of Regigigas awakening. Occasionally, some even thought they saw the indicator light on its chest flicker.

The first time it occurred, the entire temple was thrown into a state of high alert. But upon checking the surveillance footage, they found no sign of the light—it must have been a hallucination brought on by nervousness.

And it wasn't just this staff member; a few others had experienced similar illusions since then.

Every time it happened, a review of the surveillance footage would confirm it was merely a hallucination.

So now, this staff member naturally assumed that he was experiencing one.

"Why aren’t you taking the photo?"

The man noticed the staff member had been silent for too long. When he turned to look, he saw the camera had been lowered and couldn’t help but ask.

"Right away!"

The staff member immediately responded.

He raised the camera again, but almost instantly, he lowered it once more.

"Hey, what's going on?"

Seeing this, the man grew visibly irritated.

Then, he noticed the staff member’s mouth slightly agape, his left hand trembling as he pointed behind them.

The man seemed to realize something and stiffly began to turn his head. But before he could fully turn around, a shrill, panicked scream pierced the air from behind him.

"Ahhh!!"

The woman was staring in terror at the indicator lights on both sides of Regigigas’s chest. They were flashing slowly, but unmistakably flickering.

"Calling in, calling in! The indicator lights on Regigigas's chest are lit!"

The woman’s scream snapped the staff member back to his senses. He immediately grabbed his walkie-talkie and shouted into it.

"Lars, have you started seeing things too now?"

But what came through the walkie-talkie was his companion’s teasing voice.

"I’m not seeing things—damnit! They’re really lit!"

Lars’ face was a mix of frenzy and terror, his spit flying as he roared into the walkie-talkie.

Just then, the life-monitoring device installed inside the temple also began blaring an alarm.

The siren echoed through the entire temple grounds.

"Shit, the alarm’s going off! Regigigas is really waking up!"

"Regigigas is waking up?!"

A shocked voice came from the other end of the walkie-talkie.

But Lars didn’t respond. He was already leading the couple toward the temple entrance.

At the same time, tourists visiting the surrounding area could clearly hear the piercing alarm.

"What's going on? Is there a fire?" they wondered, looking around curiously. There was no smoke, no chaos—so why was the alarm blaring?

"Mister, what’s happening? Should we leave?" a tourist asked nervously.

"Right, let’s get out of here," the guide agreed, nodding.

Though they didn’t know why the alarm had been triggered, its sound alone signaled that something was wrong. For their own safety, it was best to evacuate as quickly as possible.

Only a handful of the more curious tourists lingered, seeing no immediate danger. They stayed put, hoping to find out what had caused the alarm.

Inside the temple, as time passed, the alternating flashes of Regigigas’s indicator lights gradually quickened, and its left hand began to twitch slightly.

At the same time, the indicator lights on the three Regis below also flickered, and the dust covering their surfaces began to fall away in clumps.

Regigigas’s life signals were steadily intensifying, and the life-monitoring devices around it emitted even more shrill, urgent warnings.

"Regigigas is awakening..."

In the monitoring room, an Elite-level trainer stared at the flickering lights of Regigigas and the Regi trio, his face suddenly pale. Beside him stood another Elite trainer. Both were affiliated with Kampuchea.

Bang!

The door of the monitoring room was violently shoved open, and a man strode in, his gaze fixed intently on the surveillance screen.

"Elite Adam, you’re here!"

The two Elites from Kampuchea brightened at the sight of him, as if spotting a lifeline.

"First, organize personnel to evacuate all tourists around the temple. At the same time notify the World Trainers Association and all relevant nations."

"Remember, unless Regigigas’s threat level is confirmed, under no circumstances should we adopt an offensive stance toward it."

"Also, inform your country’s higher-ups immediately. Tell them to prepare for the emergency evacuation of your citizens."
