Power and Wealth

Chapter 2029

Chapter 2029

The next day.

A little after 7 a.m.

Dong Xuebing left Yu Meixia’s home. Before he left, he repeatedly reminded her, “Make sure to buy a good house soon. If you don’t have enough money, just let me know. And if anything comes up with Qianqian, please call me. With the relationship between us, there’s no need to be so polite.”

Yu Meixia softly replied, “Mm-hmm.”

Only then did Dong Xuebing drive off, heading straight to the airport. Last night, Xie Huilan had called and told him to pick her up before 8 a.m.—she was coming back today.

While he was driving, Xie Hao suddenly called.

“Brother-in-law! Where are you?” Xie Hao exclaimed loudly.

Dong Xuebing turned on the speaker, “I’m driving—going to the airport to pick up your sister.”

Xie Hao cried, “No need! I’ll go! I’ll do it!”

Dong Xuebing laughed, “What for? Xiaoran needs help with the engagement banquet over there. It starts at ten sharp. Go help them at the hotel.”

Xie Hao protested, “There are plenty of people helping already. One more or less doesn’t matter. Besides, nothing is more important than picking up my sister. I know how busy you are. You need to rest! Leave the physical stuff to me!”

Dong Xuebing chuckled, “Why are you so enthusiastic today? Fine, if you want to go, go. I still have to go, though—Huilan will complain if I don’t show. She’s bringing the baby too. If I don’t go, she’ll have opinions. Let’s meet at the airport. The first person to arrive picks her up. I overslept a bit and might not make it.”

“Got it! Leave it to me!” Xie Hao agreed enthusiastically.

8:00 a.m., Capital Airport.

Just as Dong Xuebing arrived, Xie Hao called again, asking where he was—it sounded like he had already picked them up. Dong Xuebing told him his location and soon saw Xie Hao and Xie Huilan walking over in the distance. Xie Hao was holding little Chongchong, trying to amuse the baby. The little one blinked at Xie Hao silently while Xie Hao laughed to himself the whole way.

“Hey! Brother-in-law!” Xie Hao waved when he saw Dong Xuebing’s car.

Dong Xuebing got out and said, “Let’s get in quickly—parking here is tricky.”

Xie Huilan got into the front seat. Xie Hao handed the baby to her and climbed into the back. As soon as he sat down, he began marveling at the Porsche, “This car is amazing. Every time I ride in my sister’s car, I feel so happy. Look at these seats, so comfy!”

Dong Xuebing ignored him. “Got stuck in traffic for a bit.”

Xie Huilan smiled, “Didn’t expect you to be early anyway. My brother is more dependable.”

Xie Hao grinned, “Of course! My sister’s business is my business!”

Xie Huilan glanced at Dong Xuebing, gesturing subtly toward her brother with a smile.

Dong Xuebing understood and, once on the highway, looked in the rearview mirror. “You’re up to something, aren’t you? Just say it.”

Xie Hao played dumb, “What could I be up to?”

Dong Xuebing said, “Come on. With how lazy you usually are, you wouldn’t get up early to take the subway across town to pick up your sister.”

Xie Hao grinned, “It’s not a big deal. Brother-in-law, remember what you promised me? You said if I got into college, you’d buy me a car—something like the Audi A8 you gave to my second sister and brother, around a million yuan. Well, I’m in college now, and I got my license over the summer, so… you see…”

Dong Xuebing rolled his eyes, “I knew it. Alright, what kind of car do you want?”

Xie Hao’s eyes lit up, “Anything! The more expensive, the better. Gotta look cool, you know?”

Dong Xuebing turned to Xie Huilan, “What do you think, Huilan?”

Xie Huilan smiled, “You made the promise. I’m not getting involved.”

Xie Hao got nervous, “Brother-in-law, don’t back out now! I’ve already bragged to my classmates that I’d show up this month in a fancy car. Don’t leave me hanging!”

Dong Xuebing shook his head, “You’re still young and already so into appearances. Fine, I got it. First, ask your parents if they’re okay with you driving. If your dad and mom are fine with it, then buy a car. I’ll reimburse you—anything under 1.2 million yuan.”

Xie Hao slapped his leg and laughed, “That’s what I was waiting for! My parents are totally fine with it—I already talked to them. Great, I’ll go car shopping tomorrow!”

On the drive back, Xie Hao stared out the window, grinning to himself the whole time, clearly overjoyed.

At the restaurant.

They went to the Beijing Hotel. Xie Ran’s engagement banquet was bound to be extravagant—even though it was just an engagement, it was between the eldest grandson of the Xie family’s third generation and the little princess of the Fang family—no room for half-measures.

As soon as they reached the parking lot, Xie Hao jumped out and ran inside.

Dong Xuebing laughed, “That kid.”

“Want me to hold the baby?” Xie Huilan asked.

“Of course not! Hand him over!” Dong Xuebing couldn’t wait. He took the baby and gave him a bunch of kisses. “Baby, did you miss Daddy?”

Little Dong Chong giggled, clearly tickled by his father’s stubble.

“Look at how adorable you are.” Dong Xuebing felt content. He didn’t get out right away. Instead, he pulled his wife close and kissed her. “You’ve been taking care of the baby alone and still helping me with my career. I don’t know what I’d do without you. You’re the best, Huilan.”

Xie Huilan smiled, “As long as you know.”

Dong Xuebing said sincerely, “From now on, whatever you say goes. I’ll never say no.” He felt a little guilty and used this as an opportunity to show his appreciation.
