Chapter 1116: Frost Giant Tribe’s Calamity
Chapter 1116: Frost Giant Tribe’s Calamity
"I’m glad that you have asked, Tiny Fella! I also wanted to share the woes of me with someone!" the Frost Giant rejoiced at Leon’s question.
"This darn weather is becoming more unpredictable by the day! Who would have known that the Everflowing Lake would one day experience a flash-freezing, causing unfortunate me to be stuck here for three days and three nights?"
"You do not know how grateful I feel toward you for getting me out! God knows when another fellow tribesman would find me and dig me out?" the Frost Giant lamented, feeling fortunate that it only took three days to get help.
Suddenly, the Frost Giant thought of something and quickly said, "This won’t do! Simply saying thank you is hardly enough to repay my savior. How about this: follow me back to the tribe. I will treat you to a nice frozen meal!"
"Also, you look quite different from the other younglings. No doubt, your appearance would have been a subject of discrimination and bullying. Big Ol’ Me will have your back. Next time someone bullies you, let me know. I will teach them a lesson," the Frost Giant said enthusiastically.
Various questions floated in Leon’s mind as he became certain that the friendly Frost Giant was completely treating him as a variant youngling of his Frost Giant Tribe.
Was the Frost Giant Tribe so isolated that it did not know humans or other races?
Or was this particular Frost Giant’s intelligence a little special?
Although he didn’t want to think ill of someone showering him with friendliness, Leon couldn’t help but have such thoughts. At the same time, the Frost Giant’s friendliness and honestly made him feel guilty. He felt like he should reciprocate them.
As such, he didn’t want to hide the truth from the Frost Giant.
Furthermore, he was also curious about the Frost Giant Tribe. He wondered if the Frost Giants here differed from the common Frost Giants in the Divine Realm.
"I will be straight with you, Big Fella. I am not a child of your Frost Giant Tribe. I am a male human. Your overwhelming friendliness confuses me. Are you always this friendly to other races?" Leon asked with doubt.
"A male human?" The Frost Giant briefly froze before dismissing Leon’s concerns with his hand. "No matter. No matter. Hahaha. It doesn’t matter if you are a little human or a little monkey. You are my benefactor nonetheless. I stand by my previous words. You’ve found a friend in me, Little Fella," the Frost Giant said earnestly.
Shortly after, the Frost Giant added, "Of course, we aren’t always friendly to other races; we enjoy our meat, after all. However, it is wrong not to reciprocate when one receives kindness from others, regardless of race. Is that not the norm for humans as well?"
"It is," Leon acknowledged with a nod before quickly adding, "But not everyone is governed by such moral principles. Sometimes, even people who follow such moral principles could betray them when they are forced by circumstances."
"I don’t want to offend you, but you are quite different from how I imagine Frost Giants to be, Big Fella," Leon stated.
"Oh?" The Frost Giant was intrigued by Leon’s statement, so he asked, "And how exactly did you imagine us Frost Giants to be, Little Fella?"
Whether it was the Frost Giant’s personal interest or the tribe’s interest, he wanted to find out how other intelligent races viewed the Frost Giants.
"As far as I know, Frost Giants were described as fierce and proud, easy to anger. They are naturally gifted with cost resistance and great strength, and because they value strength above all, they tend to be hostile to humans and other races. In short, Frost Giants are said to be violent and brutal," Leon explained.
The Frost Giant was dumbfounded as he stared at Leon, speechlessly.
"Dude..." the Frost Giant uttered after some time before correcting Leon, "Is that really how the humans see us Frost Giants? I’m speechless. Are you sure you aren’t mistaken? I’ll have you know that our Frost Giant Tribe is one of the most chill races you will find around here."
"While it is true that we are proud and fierce, that is only when we have disagreements. We aren’t that easy to anger normally. Of course, most of our disputes are usually settled with strength since that is our birth-given right."
"But... perhaps we really are brutal and violent in the eyes of other races?" the Frost Giant suddenly doubted, saying, "Do humans normally make friends with their food?"
"When survival is at stake, we generally don’t. However, I hate to admit it, but when survival is not an issue, I can’t deny that some of us may focus our spare energy on doing so," Leon replied before saying, "Let me ask this—Do you see me as food?"
"God, no. Of course not," the Frost Giant felt repulsed by the idea and said, "Like Big Ol’ Me said earlier: you are my benefactor. How can I see my savior as food? That’s just wrong."
"Furthermore, are we not communicating just fine? It doesn’t seem right to view another intelligent race as food when we can communicate just fine," the Frost Giant added.
Leon nodded.
Perhaps the Frost Giant Tribe’s lifestyle practice might not be agreeable to other races. However, that could just be considered a difference in culture. Even humans don’t always agree with their own cultural practices.
When Leon thought about the difference between humans and Frost Giants, he also couldn’t help but think about the Gods and Devils from the Primordial Era.
Light and darkness were both necessary forces that brought balance to the universe. However, the Gods couldn’t tolerate the Devils, hence the beginning of the battle of light and darkness, and the ultimate end to the era of Gods and Devils.
Most likely, the Gods were the aggressors in that war.
Even considering the more recent conflict between the celestials and demons, it became more evident to Leon that while the demons were trying to co-exist, the celestials just wanted to wipe them out.
Demons were labeled as vile and evil spawns of darkness, yet those who stood on the side of good and light seemed more evil for trying to wipe them out for simply being what they were.
When did good and evil seem so twisted?
If it were true that justice always prevailed, then the one with the biggest fist would be the one with justice on their side.
Leon understood that he wouldn’t be able to persuade anyone with just words if it wasn’t accompanied by absolute strength. It seemed that even with the elevation of intelligence and life, conflicts and disputes would never escape the resolution of primal force.
After chatting for some time, Leon and the Frost Giant learned each other’s names.
Supposedly, the Frost Giant was called Nivrakkr, which had the meaning of "unyielding snow." Leon found it quite comical that "unyielding snow" was stuck in the snow.
Given Nivrakkr’s innate brute strength, Leon also found it strange that he was caught in such a situation.
"How odd. Even if you didn’t expect the Everflowing Lake to freeze suddenly, should you be able to break out of the ice with your strength, Nivrakkr?" Leon raised his doubt.
Nivrakkr immediately sighed, "Now that you said that, I suddenly remember I still have a mission to accomplish. I’m supposed to scout the southern situation."
Nivrakkr sighed again and said, "If this were during normal times, Big Ol’ Me naturally could have broken out of the ice with little effort. However, I won’t hide it from you, Little Fella. Our Frost Giant Tribe has recently met with an unexpected calamity."
"The dark clouds have been receding, and a strange crimson veil has appeared in our northern sky, causing our ice to melt and our strength to weaken. Anyone who has been exposed to the crimson veil won’t even be able to utilize 10% of their strength."
"To us Frost Giants, who have always been proud of our strength, this was a devastating blow. It’s as if we are receiving heavenly punishment for being too arrogant," Nivrakkr sighed for the third time.
Leon’s expression turned serious after listening to Nivrakkr’s explanation.
He immediately knew this was a problem he couldn’t ignore.
Whether he wanted to help the Frost Giant Tribe or not prior to this information, he had no choice but to help them now. After all, the Snowy Mountains were not a small region of land. If all of its ice melted, the elevated sea level would threaten the rest of the world.
"Cataclysm had such an effect on the Snowy Mountains? This is a serious matter," Leon said gravely.
Nivrakkr blinked with surprise.
"The Cataclysm? Could it be that you know what’s going on with the strange crimson veil that appeared in our northern sky, Little Fella?" Nivrakkr asked.
"Un." Leon nodded.
"The Cataclysm is an event that has occurred multiple times throughout history. Each time, it would bring devastating effects by scorching the world and causing all life to go mad. Simply put—nature’s a bitch, and she’s back in heat."
