Chapter 1280: The Reset
Chapter 1280: The Reset
[Planet Warden - Immortal Realm]
During the Dark Era, long before the Faceless Assassin was even born, the Dark Warden Family ruled the Dark City. Many feared them, and many aspired to join them.
It was said that long before the Dark City was built, the landmass where the majestic city now stood was a nest to a very insidious and poisonous Spider Queen.
She held absolute control of that zone, killing thousands of humans and Beasts alike. Many tried to kill her and her spider minions, but they all fell. She grew to the point nobody dared venture there.
But one day, a Shadow Divine and 15 others ventured into such a treacherous place and killed the Spider Queen, clearing out the nest and laying the foundation of Dark City.
They wanted the city to represent the undying spirit of the heroes who fell in that nest. Their darkest hour brought such a city.
In no time, the City started to grow until it became one of the three Cities on Planet Bayla. Many legendary assassins rose from their ranks and ascended to become even mightier in the immortal realm.
The first Dark Warden, the one who led the charge against the spider queen, later ascended to godhood after spending just 800,000 years being an immortal.
He went on to fight in many era-ending wars and later ascended to Supremehood. He is one of the few deadly Supreme Assassins (Shadow Supremes) in the universe.
After him, many Wardens rose, some fell, but in the end, the legacy they built remained, and because of this, in the Immortal Realm, the Dark Warden Family is respected.
They even have a planet to their name.
So when news reached the Immortal Realm of the sudden annihilation of the Dark Warden Family in the High World, one could only imagine the reactions and chaos it had sparked.
Inside a narrow, dimly lit hall, ten Immortal Lords sat, staring at an 11th Immortal Lord, whose eyes were shut, chin resting on his fist.
The ten Immortal Lords here are all previous leaders of the Dark Warden Family, who, after their 1 million years of service, ascended to continue walking the path of immortality.
Suddenly, the 11th Immortal Lord opened his eyes and looked at his elders with a calm yet authoritarian gaze. One of them quickly addressed him on the purpose of their gathering.
"Lord Warden, from what we have gathered, the one responsible for the massacre is Kent Madson. The same Kent Madson who is being hunted down by the entire universe."
The elders nodded, some waiting to see their patriarch’s reaction.
"Do we know why he did that?" Lord Warden asked, sounding calm despite learning their legacy in the High World had been wiped out.
Although Kent didn’t slaughter every last Warden, the moment their central leadership was wiped out, their true root, born many eras ago, was over.
Kent is aware that there are some children and mothers who still have the Warden bloodline. However, despite his plan to wipe out the Wardens, he spared them.
He only killed those who pointed their weapons at him, just like he had done many times in the past. If later they grew up, learned the errors of their ways, and chose to be better, he wouldn’t come after them.
However, that doesn’t mean the massacre wasn’t a massive loss to them.
The elder who reported to Lord Warden took a deep sigh, a look of disgust painting his face as he answered,
"Before answering that question, Lord Warden should know the leader of the just-slaughtered family changed the name of the family from Dark Warden to Assassin Temple and started calling himself the Dark Lord.
We learned of this about 20,000 years ago, but to avoid worrying you, we said nothing. However, the youngest heir of the Dark Lord is a scum who preys on young and gullible girls, taking advantage of the power he has to do as he pleases.
Finally, after years of tormenting the weak, he had finally touched someone he shouldn’t have. The person seemed to have some connection with Kent Madson, so he came for answers, and the rest happened.
They tortured a family of five, breaking the arm of the youngest, who was barely strong enough to be called a cultivator.
Now, the Midnight Shadows had taken over management of the City and changed its name to Midnight City."
Lord Warden sighs.
He is angry, but he didn’t seem to show his emotions. The legacy his forefathers had built came crashing down just like that.
The Dark City was their root, yet overnight, everything changed. He would have to report to his higher-ups in the God Realm, who would also reach out to the true leader of the Dark Warden Family, the Dark Warden himself.
But even so, he wasn’t about to make a rash decision just yet.
"What do you think, Jose?" he asked, directing his question to the elder who spoke.
"In my opinion, this Kent Madson had done us an excellent service. The moment the family name changed, our beliefs shifted as well. So they aren’t one of us anymore, and I believe the rest of us share in the same belief."
The elders gathered nodded. They also hated what had become of their name in the High World.
"Then, if that is what you all think, I believe this meeting is over. There is nothing to talk about." The elders nodded and dispersed.
After they left, Lord Warden took a deep breath and called out... "Come out, Yin and Yang."
From the shadows, two assassins, one clad in white leather armour and the other in black, rose. The one in the dark is a female, making her Yin, while the white one is male, Yang.
"Master," they went on their knees and bowed. Both of them are True Immortals and Shadow Immortals.
"How was your training?"
"It was great and rewarding. We managed to bridge the first gap to the Shadow Sovereign stage," Yin answered.
"That is good to hear." Lord Warden said, then he turned and looked out the window. He then took another sigh before he spoke... "I have a mission for you two."
---
In less than a day, many changes had occurred in Dark City, leaving everyone surprisingly at peace and joyful. The changes were all within reasonable limits, making everyone who had suffered under the rule of Dark Assassin Temple joyous.
Kent had in no way interfered with the changes. He only handed everything over to Adin after he finished his slaughter and vanished into the Tower.
Adin didn’t know why Kent gave him the order to take over the affairs of the City, but he didn’t waste time and did as he was told.
Surprisingly, even the other two cities, after hearing what had happened to the Dark City, began making changes in fear that Kent Madson would come after them.
It was just too shocking to learn what happened to the Warden Family. In a way, just one massacre was all it took to reset Planet Bayla.
Now, as new management is being implemented, Adin and the Midnight Shadows started making provisions to ensure nothing like this ever happens again.
Sure, they had lost considerable manpower in the massacre, but that was a necessary massacre to put things back on track.
Kent had done them a service, but had also made every last Midnight Shadow active and ready to go to war when a beast tide were to happen.
