Chapter 1366: The Dream (1)
Chapter 1366: The Dream (1)
"Chaos, what are you doing out here?" Elina asked, walking toward a golden-haired, handsome dragon who seemed to be catching the attention of every lady who passed by.
"It is too noisy in there, Elina. I hate noise..."
Elina walked toward Chaos and pouted. She had painted her face rabbit, so her pout made her look rather cute.
"You are not fun, Chaos. I brought you here to have fun, but you are just too boring sometimes."
"Having fun is for weak people. I am not weak, nor would I reduce myself to their level. I hate weak people."
"So do you hate me?" Elina asked, her expression hardening. She brought Chaos to this festival with the hope of making him become more normal.
She wants him to be more than just the battle-hardened brute who was more focused on going from one battle to the next.
But even before she could start to teach him how to live like a normal person at a fun festival, he had already made up his mind not to listen to her suggestions.
"You are not a weak warrior, Elina. I saw you fight, and I know you are a powerful warrior."
"Then what makes you think the people here are weak?"
"Mundane activities are for weak people. I would prefer hunting and duels over face and body painting."
"This thick skull of yours is just too hard to get information inside." Elina grabbed his hand and tried to pull him by force. However, Chaos resisted. But she pulled again, and this time, he was pulled.
Many years ago, Elina tried many times to pull him, but Chaos remained standing like he was made of steel. However, now, it seemed things were different.
That was because just now, Chaos became Kent, and Elina became, well, Elina.
Just as it happened every time she dreamed, this time too, she had possessed the dream versions of Elina, and she would take advantage of the short time she had to talk to him.
That had been her life for many years now. She mostly dreamed about Elina and Chaos. Initially, it was merely her seeing them and hearing all they said.
She even followed them around many times. However, a couple of months ago, she started possessing Elina’s body.
It took her some time to get used to it.
Whenever she possesses her body, she knows exactly what to do and how to go about it.
So just now, when she pulled, and Chaos moved, she was taken aback. That wasn’t how it was supposed to be. She was supposed to spend the next hour using every means possible to drag him back to the festival.
The dreams come at random, with many being Elina making sure Chaos behaves normally, or more like teaching him to behave like a normal person.
So she was supposed to spend exactly 69 minutes convincing him using human logic before he agreed to go. But his accepting this early was never a part of the original script.
"Why did you stop?" Chaos, now possessed by Kent, asked. He did well to maintain his smug, unaffected expression.
"N-nothing. Just a bit surprised you gave in that easily."
"If I didn’t, you wouldn’t stop nagging me, so we might as well get this over with."
"What a baby," Elina said, going off script since the moment Chaos moved; the whole dream became something else.
What happened next would be hers, the same slave girl whose only source of entertainment is invading the dream of her past self, to decide.
"I am not going to paint my face, though."
"But that is the main theme of this festival."
"I know, but I am not going to paint my face, so don’t even try it," Kent tapped into what happened originally between him and Elina and decided to pick out points from that memory to avoid making it obvious.
Just now, when he decided to go with Elina, he saw the dream crack. This means that if he were to stray from the original dream or even make Elina aware that it isn’t a real dream, everything would come completely undone, and the dream would crumble.
So he had to play his cards right.
He cannot tell Elina his real name, where he is from, who she is to him, or why he came to this dream. He would have to find a way to lift her spirit and keep her going for now.
After all, he can use the Destiny Dream Key more than once, so later he can come and continue where he stopped. It may be a different dream, but he would find a way to keep her engaged till he gets to her galaxy.
"You are very boring, Chaos. I never knew you were this boring, like I wouldn’t have brought you with me."
"Oh, then who would protect you and fly you around?"
"That is just stretching it, Chaos. Flying me around is a promise you made when I decided to become your friend."
Chaos stopped walking and looked at Elina, "I believe this is the point where you would say something like, how shameless. Weren’t you the same person begging me to become your friend after I killed your teammates?"
"Yeah, but you are the guy, so in human words, you begged me."
"I did not."
"Yes, you did."
"No, I did not."
"But you did."
"Fine, I will paint my face, but that is because I want to, not because I find you annoying and a bit childish."
Elina smiled, "The fact that you know when someone is childish means there is hope for you yet. You are not a lost cause."
They soon appeared in front of a painting store, where Chaos, with a frown on his face, had his face painted.
"How mundane," Chaos muttered after they left the shop.
Elina smiled and stared at him, "You are kind of cute. With your dragon horns on and how perfectly sculpted your face is, I say you will pass as my concubine." Elina said, giggling at the end.
"What is a concubine?"
"Nothing... Nobody. Let’s go, they are about to start the masquerade." Elina dragged him away, unaware that she was making Chaos (Kent) smile.
In the past, they missed it since Chaos refused to have his face painted. This made Elina promise not to take him to a masquerade festival ever again.
This time, however, they got to go.
Obviously, Elina, who had the previous Elina’s memories, was now thrilled to have witnessed this. She was born into a family of wealth, but due to jealousy and greed, she was sold into slavery to die there.
The first few years were extremely hard. However, she adapted, and with friends helping her move forward, she had come to accept her nature as a slave.
However, from the day she started dreaming about Elina and Chaos, she realised she was no slave. She had so much to live for, so becoming a slave isn’t something she would like.
And as days, weeks, and months passed, the defiant spirit, the kind that wouldn’t want to be branded a slave, only grew stronger.
She wants freedom. She wants the life Elina has. Today, she seems to be having just that.
And Kent, who was making all this happen, kept smiling inwardly.
