Chapter 1557: Conversation With The Ruthless Bandit
Chapter 1557: Conversation With The Ruthless Bandit
Kent anticipated a good nap while the Tower worked on building him a body worthy of his power. However, that dream was shattered when he appeared in this scorching hot desert.
To make matters even worse, he now stood face to face with the last person he expected to see - the Ruthless Bandit.
Among his past lives, the Ruthless Bandit was the one he had the fewest memories of. The reason for that was that, among his past lives, the Ruthless Bandit had it the worst.
The small memories he managed to recover were filled with the most heartbreaking life a person could ever wish for. He couldn’t handle them just yet since the last time he tried, he nearly lost his mind.
So he was a bit scared to even read the memory diary, fearing he might lose his mind again and maybe, this time, end up hurting someone.
The idea that he is afraid of himself is just preposterous. However, in this case, he indeed should be afraid of himself.
Looking at the evil grin on the Ruthless Bandit’s face and the fact that he reeked of blood, Kent couldn’t help but take a few steps back.
"Oh, I can tell you are afraid of me," the Ruthless Bandit smirked and moved toward Kent, appearing behind him despite them facing each other just now.
He placed his hand on Kent’s shoulder and whispered into his ear, "Am I that scary... oh, a much better question, are we that afraid of ourselves, you know, since you and I are the same person?"
Kent tried to wiggle his way out of his grip, but he failed miserably.
"Very funny, buddy. You and I are the same person, so why fear me when you should embrace me instead? Or do you think crossing the Star Gateway can be achieved by being a good person?"
He let go of Kent and laughed. "News flash, you are going to dirty your hands. In fact, you are going to need every bit of me to traverse that path because, guess what, that fancy star compass won’t help you, buddy."
Kent turned and wanted to ask how he knew he had plans to traverse the Star Gateway. But then he remembered all of this was happening in his mind space, and so his memories were simple to read.
He sighed and turned to face the Ruthless Bandit, who flashed him a knowing smile.
"Good. I suppose we can have a good conversation now."
Kent said nothing for a moment, taking a great deal of time to look at the Ruthless Bandit. Once he had had enough of him, he proceeded to ask a very simple question: "Why am I here?"
"Very simple, really, you are here to understand why I, or I should say we, were once called the Ruthless Bandit. Of course, I am not about to tell you what happened to me. I will just tell you the vision and the mission, and then you can continue from there when you go back."
He cleared his throat and began:
"As it turns out, one doesn’t grow up to become the greatest evil; they are made into one. We were made into the greatest evil simply because of two things. First, it had to do with men’s greed; second, it was thanks to karma for our past mistakes.
Our parents died because of the greed of men, and we became evil due to that. However, our true evil intent came from our heart demon.
Our parents died, and I was vulnerable, so she wormed her way into my heart, latched her puppet strings onto my soul, and tried to manipulate me... the keyword is tried."
Kent nodded, knowing full well he wouldn’t be a puppet to anyone, even if it cost him his life.
"I was vulnerable, but not stupid. I realized at first that my anger was changing me and that if I didn’t pull myself together, it would eat me up. However, I also realized that anger gives me great strength, and if I want to succeed in eradicating my foes, I must harness it.
So I did, and it was the path I chose to walk. By tapping into my anger, I unleashed my heart demon, allowing her to turn me into an evil version of myself. But an evil me is a very dangerous version of myself.
I was evil to the point that my heart demon started to regret ever unleashing me. I grew my evil heart and bathed in my enemies’ blood, tempering my intent until my presence drove evil into hiding.
I became evil, and that path was what led me to the peak. But as you know, yin and yang have to balance. Being evil without a good side wasn’t balanced, so I ended up losing control and killing people I shouldn’t have.
Did I regret those actions? I don’t. But you will, because guess what: while I only have evil (yin), you have the good (yang), and since we are one and the same person, we naturally now have both.
So it is now up to you to find the balance and become the necessary evil you must become in order to succeed."
The Ruthless Bandit smirked:
"You know, I never knew we had that much evil in us until I one time looked at myself in the mirror. My reflection smiled back at me, a very proud moment if you ask me, because guess what, we accomplished all we wanted and caused even more mayhem before our time came to an end."
Kent wanted to say something, but looking at the smile on the Ruthless Bandit’s face, he stopped himself.
He felt a chill run down his spine, making him wonder if it was even worth recalling the memories of this life.
From his perspective, this kind of evil would change him. He would become something evil, something he doesn’t want around his wives.
However, he also knew that, to become a True Primordial, he must merge with all 13 pieces of his soul. This includes the Ruthless Bandit. So no matter what, he must become evil.
"Take some time to think it over. Though you must know, to cross the Star Gateway, you will need my memories. While they may not have anything to do with the Star Gateway at this point, to cross it, you will need that evil intent that would slowly awaken within you as you recall more of my life... our life."
Kent nodded but said nothing.
Ignoring a part of himself isn’t something he must do, so he had a lot of things to do. Hopefully, by the time he is ready to head over to Elina’s universe, he will have reached a decision.
"You can leave whenever you are ready. As for me, I am off. Until next time."
Kent was left alone, standing on the dune of endless heat, his expression calm, though deep within him, he felt a bit disturbed.
"At this point, I just have to conclude that when it comes to making a name for myself, first making peace with myself is paramount."
He sighed and gazed around the red environment before wishing to leave.
His gaze opened to the outside just when his scales were about to form.
"Right on time, master. Time to check your new scales." Tower formed a hand seal, and deep within him, Kent felt his body start to change.
