Chapter 1400 Ancient Ladies
Chapter 1400 Ancient Ladies
Beyond the clearing where the others waited, the soul realm stretched into low hills and open ground, quiet and unclaimed. Two figures walked there at an unhurried pace.
Light slid across skin marked by history. Orianna's floral tattoos traced along her shoulders and down her arms, inked petals and winding stems catching the pale glow as she moved. Beside her, Black Fang's purple, serpentine markings followed the lines of her body in darker curves, coiling over her back and thighs. Every step set muscle in motion beneath them. They looked built for battle and long nights, bodies honed rather than aged, presence heavy with years lived hard.
Orianna let out a slow breath. "I feel so out of place… Like a tagalong who wandered in by accident. Is it really fine for me to be here?"
Black Fang kept her gaze forward. "The feeling is mutual."
Orianna shot her a look. "Even you?"
"I am currently realm hopping," Black Fang replied, tone flat, as if that alone covered everything.
It did.
Orianna nodded once. "Right. After being stuck to Iskaris for four centuries, we leave by diving into the trunk of a tree and end up inside the mind of a man who keeps trying to bone you at any cost."
Black Fang's head turned just enough for a side glance to cut across Orianna, sharp and dangerous.
Orianna did not pull any statements back. She rolled her shoulders and sighed. "I was out cold for a short while, yet it feels like I missed centuries."
"I stayed conscious and still feel the same. This is… Plain absurd." The Venomborne Terror admitted with a difficult expression.
"That it is," Orianna nodded.
They walked on for a few steps, boots brushing through grass. The quiet pressed in around them.
Orianna huffed another breath, the sound closer to a tired laugh. "Listen to us. We sound like old women."
Black Fang's mouth twitched and quoted Quinlan, "We are 'ancient ladies,' after all…" Orianna paused where she was. "He really did say that, didn't he? The galls on that guy…"
"I thought I understood how this life of mine would go," Orianna went on. "I thought the road ahead was mapped. But everything has been turned sideways."
Orianna's steps slowed. Her gaze drifted ahead, unfocused, then tipped slightly upward as if she were looking past the hills and into an older scene.
"I remember back when he was just a weak rookie trying to win the Vesper Phenom competition. All elbows and bravado. Now look at him. Destroying cities. Eviscerating battalions. Dragging people across realms like it is a change of clothes. All within a few months."
Black Fang's pace did not change. The corner of her mouth lifted, just barely. "Back then, he flirted with Vex in public. Constantly."
Orianna's eyes widened, then lit. "Oh yeah! I remember now." She chuckled brightly. "Future Hubby. Future Wifey. They kept calling each other that. So corny."
She turned her head, grin widening as she studied Black Fang's profile. "And now he is trying to get into your pants. A woman with even more emotional baggage by a long mile. A woman who, once again, can snap his neck." Her grin turned sly. "I am starting to see a pattern. That man has a very acquired taste."
Black Fang stopped.
Her head turned fully this time. The glance that followed carried real weight, sharp enough to make Orianna nearly take on a defensive formation.
"Are you saying," Black Fang asked, voice low and even, "that I do not deserve to be courted?"
Orianna froze for half a breath. Then she burst out laughing, bending forward as she slapped a hand against Black Fang's shoulder. "Look at you! Twisting what I said to fit your agenda. You are starting to act like a proper woman now. Congratulations."
Black Fang swiped Orianna's hand away with a short, controlled motion. A small shadow cut across the pale light.
"Rosie agrees!" a bright voice declared from above. "Miss Black Fang deserves to be courted!"
Something green and fast dropped from the sky and landed squarely on Black Fang's shoulders with a soft thump. Small arms wrapped around her head for balance.
"So she should go on romantic dates with Daddy and let him charm her!"
Black Fang stiffened.
Her shoulders drew tight. One hand lifted, then stopped halfway, fingers curling. Her jaw set, eyes forward, posture rigid in a way Orianna had only seen before combat.
It wasn't that Black Fang didn't sense Rosie's descent… She could've dodged. But she trusted the girl. However, she never expected Rosie to sit where she did. The Venomborne Terror felt very uncomfortable right now. She's never allowed anyone to touch her in such a way, from behind at that.
Her survival instincts, honed through several lifetimes of extreme brutality, screamed at her to yank the girl off and cut her apart.
"Uh… Rosie," Orianna said carefully, one brow lifting. "I am not sure that is a safe spot. Why don't you come over to me?"
Rosie patted Black Fang's head, completely at ease. "No need. Miss Black Fang is a very nice, friendly ancient lady!"
Black Fang's expression shifted.
The discomfort drained away, replaced by something colder. Still. Quiet. The look of a predator deciding how much effort a kill required.
"Hehehe!" Rosie vanished, giggling as she shot upward and then dropped neatly onto Orianna's shoulders instead.
Orianna barely flinched.
"You are playing dangerous games, young lady," she murmured, a small smile tugging at her mouth. "Where were you?"
"Surveying the lands!" Rosie chirped, peering around from her perch.
"I see," Orianna said, nodding once. Then she added, "So we're about to meet those people, huh? Our progenitors..." "Yes! Grandmommy Lumi and Miri!" Rosie chirped with utmost excitement, her voice ringing out across the quiet hills. "Rosie heard so many tales of them and their giant bosom! She can't wait to be enveloped by all that motherly warmth! Daddy can't monopolize it all to himself, Rosie plans to challenge his dominion over them!!!"
As she spoke, the girl began making frantic, grabbing motions with her small hands, her fingers curling and uncurling in the air with pure, unadulterated excitement. She leaned forward over Orianna's head, her face flushed with the kind of heat usually reserved for a warrior entering a frenzy, but fueled by the singular desire to be pampered.
"Truly his child..." Black Fang murmured dryly. "What kind of nonsense is he teaching his newly born daughter?"
"Of course Rosie is his child! Rosie and Daddy are the best mommy milker connoisseurs in the whole universe!"
"A what…?" Orianna gasped. The use of language, originating directly from Quinlan's mouth, meaning it was Earth slang, sounded all too alien. But the Flower Queen didn't exactly need an explanation to understand the gist of it.
"...You're way too unhinged," Orianna giggled. She adjusted Rosie's legs, feeling the girl's sheer vibrating energy through her shoulders.
"This is what happens when a baby listens to an eccentric man like him talk nonsense from the moment of their birth…" Black Fang whispered under her breath, her eyes fixed firmly on the horizon, as if looking away might make the conversation disappear.
"How big are we talking?" Orianna asked curiously. Her own sense of propriety was clearly beginning to crumble under the weight of the absurdity.
"Ginormous!" Rosie chirped. She let go of Orianna's head to make massive, sweeping circles in the air with her arms, nearly toppling backward in her fervor. "They're primordial mommies! The most motherly mommies among the people who birthed all mortals of Thalorind! Of course, they will be extremely voluptuous!! It only makes sense!"
"That big...?" Orianna murmured with a hand coming up to her own chin in thought. "I get the human primordial, but aren't elves lithe creatures? I know they can have normal-sized curves, but they tend to be rather slim, perfect for navigating thick forests. I thought their progenitor would resemble that image."
"Not my Grandmommy!" Rosie puffed, crossing her arms with a look of supreme authority. Before the unhinged conversation could continue, all of a sudden, a deep voice boomed across the realm. "Ladies… It's time. Gather around."
"Finally!!!" Rosie instantly jumped to her feet and zoomed off at breakneck speed.
"This girl…" Orianna shook her head, smiling fondly. Then, together with Black Fang, the two ancient ladies made their way back to where the group gathered.
