Chapter 1408 Cosmic Kidnapper
Chapter 1408 Cosmic Kidnapper
Lilyanna watched them with open satisfaction.
Mearie's shoulders were tense, weight shifted forward. Luminara's hand hovered near her side, fingers already gathering force. Both wore the same expression, the kind reserved for threats that had crossed a line too far to retreat from.
The mother bears were bearing their fangs right before jumping into action to protect their cub.
The sight pleased her.
She clasped her hands together in front of her chest and leaned to the side slightly, posture loose, confidence absolute.
"I will return your son shortly," Lilyanna said, voice lilting with far too much sweetness. "After a private conversation. I expect he will be… more manageable by the time he comes back."
Her eyes gleamed. "The gods know this child needs a humbling. Hehe~"
Mearie growled low in her throat.
Luminara's smile vanished completely.
"You will leave only over my dead body!" Mearie decreed.
Luminara turned and raised her voice. "Everyone. Deny her the right to leave."
This was a declaration of authority within their domain. Here, they were the rulers, not the Goddess.
A pause followed.
Vaelor scratched the back of his head. "Uh… I'm good," he said with a shrug. "This is a terrible waste of time. I should get back to my lab," Thindlebrim said, already turning.
Neither moved to block Lilyanna.
Thyra stepped forward instead. The mother of humanity's expression was calm, but her spine was straight. "The child has been nothing but respectful. I see no justification for a humbling."
Kiryssa clicked her tongue and stepped up next to the first female human primordial. "You are getting carried away," the drow said coolly. "Even for you, this is too much."
Hanae moved next, placing herself closer to Luminara and Mearie. "You are kidnapping a newborn primordial to intimidate him. I cannot approve of this."
Zen followed, hands in his pockets. "I like the kid," he said simply.
The giants rumbled their agreement. The dwarves grunted and nodded.
Even Karl and Malakar moved to interject. "He's a good lad," the pigfaced shapeshifter announced.
"…" Malakar said nothing, but his eyes told the Goddess even he didn't agree, despite his incessant grumbling about Quinlan's presence in the realm.
The space filled with presence as more primordials aligned themselves, forming an unspoken barrier.
Together, they denied her the right to leave.
Lilyanna's smile did not falter. Instead, the opposite occurred.
The already deep and amused smile went longer than it should have, going from ear to ear as she released an ominous giggle.
The patterns across her skin shifted faster, aligning into slow, deliberate motion. Her voice carried when she spoke again, layered and resonant, spreading across the realm without effort.
"Now."
Mearie's breath caught. "Huh?"
Lilyanna tilted her head, expression sweet. "You know," she said lightly, "I prepared well for today! There are more primordials than just you…"
Her eyes glinted. "And when I informed them they were not invited to your little celebration… That you were keeping the newborn primordial to yourselves…"
She took a step back, space already loosening around her.
"They are not happy with you, my two good friends."
Luminara stared at her. "What?! Stop spouting nonsense you devious bitch and give me my son back, or I swear I'll kill you!"
Lilyanna turned serious as the realm's boundary responded.
"I hope you'll be able to forgive me, old friend, but this is something I must do." Lilyanna's giggles rose.
She pressed against the edges of the dimension's wall, making it shudder.
Cracks of light crawled across it as Lilyanna stepped forward. Space bent under her foot, folding inward instead of resisting. The unspoken wall strained, then warped, forced aside by will rather than strength.
Luminara moved instantly. Symbols flared into existence around her, lines of authority snapping into place as raw power gathered at her palms.
Mearie's spear came up. Her stance dropped, feet digging in as every muscle locked tight. The weapon hummed as she poured herself into it, breath hitching, vision narrowing.
"Give him back!" Mearie shouted, voice breaking. She drew her arm back.
Hanae was there in the next instant, hand gripping Mearie's wrist with iron certainty.
"No."
Thyra stepped between Luminara and Mearie, arms spread, eyes hard. "Stop. Both of you."
Kiryssa followed, planting herself beside the elf. "With the dimension already open, its veil is in a weakened state. If you strike now, it will all fall apart."
"And if this breaks…" Hanae whispered, "'they' will come."
Mearie strained against Hanae's grip, shoulders shaking. "She took him," she choked. "She took my baby."
Luminara's magic trembled, flaring unevenly. "Out of my way," she hissed. "I will kill 'them' too!"
Thyra reached back without looking and rested a hand on Luminara's arm. "Listen to us."
Kiryssa stepped closer to Mearie and placed both hands on her shoulders. Her voice softened despite herself. "Quinlan is a strong child. I can tell just by his presence that he's been through more hardships and pain than any of us had at his age."
Hanae loosened her grip just enough to turn Mearie toward her. "He will not break from a conversation. Even if it's with her."
Mearie's knees buckled. Hanae caught her before she fell.
"She didn't even ask," Mearie sobbed, fingers clutching at her chest. "She just… took him. Luminara and I planned to sit on either side of Quinnie while they talked to ensure she didn't try something!"
"… Perhaps that's exactly why she took him away," Thyra sighed.
Kiryssa quickly followed with a sigh of her own. "Lilyanna is not a sadist. You know that."
"I seriously doubt she would hurt a child," Hanae added.
Luminara hesitated, gaze drifting to the thinning boundary. "Maybe… But Quinnie has been… difficult for her. More so than all the primordial men in their first century of life combined."
"That bad?!" Kiryssa and Hanae gasped together, then sent a nasty glance toward the males in question. They knew how troublesome the boys were, especially soon after their birth.
And that kind, steady child who was so respectful to them all was worse than them combined?! These egotistical, barbaric, primal beasts?
"What is it?" Vaelor scoffed, crossing his arms. "Stop staring, damned wenches."
Silence followed.
"I'm beyond furious," Luminara said, straightening slowly. The air around her settled, heavier. She rolled her neck once, then exhaled through her teeth.
"I need a punching bag right now." Her eyes locked onto Vaelor.
At the same time, Mearie lifted her head. Her earlier trembling had not vanished. It had simply condensed. Her gaze slid sideways and fixed on the male drow.
"You're not alone," she hissed.
The two women turned their heads toward Kiryssa at the same time.
"Do you mind?" they asked.
Kiryssa blinked. Then she laughed.
"Mind?! Me?!" It was sharp. Bright. She tugged her sleeves up to her elbows, flexing her fingers as shadows curled eagerly along her arms. "I'll join in. Let's beat this dumb loser up. I want to see him revive at least ten times a second!"
Kiryssa, the drow who had stood calm and collected until now, looked nothing like a mere moment ago.
The kindness drained from her face. In its place came something precise and delighted. Her gorgeous expression twisted into a smile that showed too many teeth.
While she might've looked wild and bloodthirsty, if Quinlan had been there to see it, he would have thought her to be even more beautiful than before.
Vaelor stared at them. "What?" he blurted. "Have you cunts gone mad? She just kidnapped your child. What's the big deal? You've lived for far too many millions of years without him being a part of your existence, you'll manage just fine even if he were to be killed."
Luminara smiled.
So did Mearie.
Kiryssa's laughter bubbled up again as she stepped forward. "You really don't know when to shut up, do you?" Cruelty in its purest form, sprinkled with a healthy dose of sadism, overcame the drow's expression. She looked extremely ominous right now, making Vaelor gulp.
That look made him remember long-forgotten memories from a long, long time ago.
Kiryssa lunged.
The other two moved with her.
Three figures blurred forward together, and soon, the pained shouts of a single man reverberated across the realm.
But while the ladies used a nasty punching bag to vent their frustrations and worries, Quinlan was hard at work to try something that should have interesting results!
