Chapter 944: Black Fangs Pros and Cons
Chapter 944: Black Fangs Pros and Cons
"Good news, everyone~" Vex sang, holding up her now-dimmed communication artifact. "Black Fang agreed to back us up on the Aurelions brutal butchering matter. As for Jasmines mom, thatll take a little digging. Were gonna need time to locate her exact prison. We can only start moving without restraint once thats done."
Quinlans lips turned upwards with satisfaction. A slow, genuine smile.
"That woman really is something, isnt she? The Consortium is in a full-blown war with the Greenvale Dukedom, and from what I can tell, we arent exactly winning... Yet she still diverts assets just to help me settle a personal score..."
Vex chuckled hearing that, brushing her white hair behind one ear. "Shes awesome for certain, hubby. As long as you dont ask any of her peers, that is. Theyd probably describe her with words like demonic, lunatic, and craziest, most unhinged bitch they ever had the displeasure of working with"
She grinned proudly. "But hey, being important to that kind of lunatic does come with its perks. Just look... without hesitation, she prioritized your issue over the war. Raikas already been deployed with a squad of scouts backing her up. Theyre en route to crack some skulls in search of the location."
Quinlan laughed, shaking his head fondly. "I already knew, but what a terrifying, wonderful ally she is to have."
Then he turned to the group of women gathered nearby.
"Before I forget, let me introduce two ladies who came back with me. Feng Jiai" he gestured at the short, delicate, oriental teen with long black hair and sharp eyes "is an awesome youngster who stuck by me from minute five of the trial to the very end. And Serika Vael" he motioned to the fiery red-haired woman with sun-kissed skin and a powerful, regal stance "is a warrior with fists that punch holes through mountains. Shes now a proud bearer of the [Solar Fist] class."
He smiled.
"I hope youll all get along."
Ayames crystal-blue gaze scanned Feng Jiai with a scrutinizing intensity. The younger girl flinched, her spine stiffening under the weight of the samurais unblinking stare. She felt like she was being judged by a terribly discerning wolf, one who knew the exact measure of her preys worth.
"You remind me of my younger self," Ayame said at last, extending a hand to shake the newcomers. "Ayame."
Feng gulped, accepting the offered hand. "Feng Jiai..." She then blinked and asked, "Was that... supposed to be a compliment?"
Ayame scoffed, arms crossing beneath her chest. "What else would it be? I wasand still amthe most beautiful woman around. Never met any single woman whod make me question that."
Fengs eyes went wide at the utterly shameless declaration.
The older girl continued to look at her, then exhaled in mild exasperation. "Ah. I see what this is. Youre insecure about your modest feminine assets and think that I, who boasts more modest sizes than most women do near me, must mean that I feel like shit. Am I wrong?"
Feng didnt reply. But her silence was answer enough.
Ayames tone didnt change as she continued. Still composed, still calm. But there was something oddly firm in the way she spoke next. "I never felt that way. Never needed to. Im beautiful as I am. You dont need giant fat reserves bouncing off your chest and behind to feel good about yourself."
Fengs jaw nearly dropped at that phrasing.
"The attention I got from men when I was your age already told me that. And now... these so-called modest assets of mine have successfully enchanted the literal man touted by the universe as the God Slayer. The Primordial Villain. The Harbinger of Ruin." ๐ฮฌ๐ฝ๐ค๐ฑฤแนฆ
Feng opened her mouth to respond, then closed it again. She tried a second time, and still nothing came.
Ayame smirked victoriously. "Yeah. Thats what I thought. You and I should have some chats later. I might be able to help you get over those self-image burdens youre carrying for no reason whatsoever."
Feng nodded. Hard.
She smiled shyly, a pink hue rising on her cheeks as she looked up at Ayame with something that resembled admiration. Maybe even awe.
It felt a little like meeting the big sister she never had back home. Luckily, Lucille breezed in like a warm gust of wind. She embraced Feng with a bright smile. "Welcome to our home! Anyone who protected our Quin is already family, so just let me know if you need any help in literally anything!"
Feng, once again, nodded, feeling more and more at ease.
Blossom popped up beside them next, her tail wagging wildly as she gave the girl a few gentle exploratory sniffs from a respectable distance, as the dogkin woman knew her etiquette. Not everyone was like her Master and sisters, who didnt mind her closeness. Once she had her fill, she added with an even more rapidly wagging tail, brewing a storm behind her, "Thank you for protecting Master when Blossom wasnt able to!"
"Hehe! Its been my pleasure! That big, arrogant oaf wouldnt have survived without my guidance!"
"Oh?" Ayame mused, eager to learn more about their journey.
Meanwhile, Serika was quickly surrounded by Vex, Lyra, and Seraphiel.
"Damn~" Vex purred, circling Serika like a cat eyeing a new toy. "Youve got an amazing build. I bet Raika would kill for a joint training session with you."
"I dont know who that is... but Im always up to train, especially if thats with someone stronger than me," Serika replied with a calm nod of her head, which prompted the ever-so-slightly crazed Hexwitch to grin widely.
Lyra stepped forward a little nervously and bowed deeply. "Youre a warrior who fought beside my Lord. Would you be willing to give me some pointers, Lady Serika? Im the main tank who protects my Lord and his family, but... I feel unworthy sometimes. Everyones growing faster than I can follow."
Serika gave the pink-haired woman a long, appraising look. Then she smiled warmly.
"Unworthy? I dont get such an impression when I look at you. How old are you?"
"Twenty-seven."
Serika whistled. "Youre doing this well at twenty-seven? It should be me asking you for tips."
Lyra blinked, then slowly smiledreally smiledfor the first time in a very long time. "Thanks..."
Seraphiel chimed in with a glimmer in her eye. "Then count me in for training as well if youll have me. I used to be a healer who couldnt do much but fire magic arrows when my spells werent needed, but now that I can fight and heal thanks to my Dawnbringer class, Im training with everyone I can get my hands on. You seem like someone I could really learn from."
"Id be happy to," Serika nodded. But then, her eyes examined the elven woman all over again. "You remind me of Luminara. Are you related somehow?"
Seraphiel froze. Then she snapped her head toward Quinlan.
"Wait..."
Quinlan chuckled, shrugging like it wasnt a big deal.
"Yeah. Theyve met my mothers already. And at the rate things are going, the meeting between you girls and my mothers is a lot closer than we ever thought possible. So get ready, ladies."
