Chapter 3096: Hadn’t Expected She’d Become a Kidnapper
Gong Rong seemed to be exhausted. His head tilted onto Ning Shu’s shoulder as he fell asleep.
Ning Shu shoved his head off without hesitation. Gong Rong’s head lolled to the side and landed against the bus window, where he continued sleeping.
Ning Shu dozed off slightly as well. Her body had been overdrawn recently, and she hadn’t had a proper night’s sleep in a long time.
First, it was the island, then the boat. Even after that, she hadn’t escaped the grasp of the Gong siblings.
Even after escaping their yacht, she had to continue living on the run.
Life truly was unpredictable. Ning Shu hadn’t expected she’d become a kidnapper.
However, if she hadn’t kidnapped Gong Rong back then, she wouldn’t have been able to get away.
The Gong siblings were ruthless.
They were people capable of inheriting and guarding an enormous financial conglomerate like the SR Conglomerate. How could they possibly be saints?
Ning Shu refused to be fooled by Gong Rong’s constant attempts at playing charming and seductive and remained on high alert the entire time. She thought they’d reach their destination without issue, but as soon as they arrived at the toll station, someone started doing checks.
A police car was parked by the roadside.
Ning Shu glanced at Gong Rong, who was sound asleep like a dead pig. His head was once again leaning against her shoulder.
This guy had some serious pull—to have this many people searching for him.
The police came to check. One of them glanced at Gong Rong, snoring away with drool leaking from the corner of his mouth, then looked at Ning Shu before getting out of the bus.
Ning Shu didn’t feel relieved at all. Even if they had gotten through this time, what about next time? Or the time after that?
Especially so since the closer they got to the city, the stronger the police presence would be.
Ning Shu felt quite stressed. When she looked at Gong Rong, who was sleeping like a log, she felt the urge to just slap him.
However, in the end, she figured it was better he stayed asleep and out of trouble.
The inspections along the way became more and more frequent.
Ning Shu felt the chance of being exposed increasing by the minute.
Gong Fu knew her brother was a man, and that it was very likely Ning Shu would disguise him as one. Once she changed the description of his hair, she would be able to describe Gong Rong’s current appearance.
The next time they reached a bus station, Ning Shu dragged Gong Rong off the bus.
They couldn’t afford to keep taking these crowded, conspicuous long-distance coaches.
After all the running around, Gong Rong’s complexion had worsened. His face had taken on a sickly yellow pallor.
Ning Shu spread her hands. “I just wanted to trade you for my mom. Who could’ve known your family would be this much trouble? So now I’ve got no choice but to trouble you.”
Gong Rong looked utterly deflated. He now lacked the energy to even argue. He really was as delicate as a willow in the wind.
He clung to Ning Shu. He was now practically hanging his entire body on her.
Ning Shu was impatient with him. However, she also knew that she couldn’t let Gong Rong die. If Gong Rong really died, then she would also meet a dead end.
The task would end as a failure. What kind of future could a kidnapper possibly have?
She went to the small shop at the station and bought him something to eat.
Gong Rong’s appetite was poor, and he didn’t eat much.
Ning Shu released her spiritual energy and checked his physical condition. His internal organs seemed even more deteriorated than before.
He was clearly only in his thirties, so why was his body this fragile?
What kind of illness was this—premature aging?
But why hadn’t it affected his skin?
He ate so little, probably because he couldn’t digest properly.
What kind of disease was this?
Suddenly, Ning Shu asked, “Were you the one managing the SR Conglomerate before?”
Gong Rong looked dispirited as he nodded. “Yes, I was managing it. From now on, Fu’er will take over.”
So Gong Rong knew he didn’t have much time left and had already stepped down to cultivate his sister as a successor.
Ning Shu asked, “Does your sister know you don’t have long to live?”
Gong Rong gave her a sidelong glance. “What’s that got to do with you?”
So Gong Fu didn’t know her brother was ill.
“Why are you saying I don’t have long to live?” Gong Rong asked coolly.
