Chapter 3491: Martial Aunt (8)
Chapter 3491: Martial Aunt (8)
Some ancient alchemy techniques had been lost to time, and modern alchemists searched desperately for those old recipes and skills.
Elder Duan’s pills were certainly no match for those from a Divine Dao sect. If they were, he would be a legendary figure in the world of alchemy.
Elder Duan’s temperament was good after all. “My refining skills are indeed lacking. Do not come to me next time.”
Yi Youxuan curled her lip. They weren’t good to begin with, yet he acted like a self-important senior the moment she pointed it out. If he had accepted the criticism with more humility, she might have even brought out an ancient recipe for him to study.
Ning Shu turned and left. Whatever Yi Youxuan chose to do was none of her business.
Her most important task now was to repair her Dao heart.
Ning Shu returned to her own peak and grabbed a qiankun bag. She packed some fasting pills, a few changes of clothes, some medicinal ointments, and gathered some spirit stones to prepare for a journey. Perhaps she would find some natural treasures or a method to repair her Dao heart while traveling.
There was no point in staying on Zisha Island. Far from repairing her Dao heart, she would likely just run into Yi Youxuan again.
Zisha Island was neither too large nor too small.
It was no good to stay cooped up in her room forever. By wandering around, she might even find a world origin.
She couldn’t defeat Yi Youxuan, so she simply wouldn’t cross her path.
Once she had finished checking her supplies, Ning Shu prepared to set off. She also hanged a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on her door.
Before leaving, she went to see Elder Duan one last time to ask for more pills.
Yi Youxuan and Qi Cheng had already left. Ning Shu found Elder Duan drinking continuously. She said, “Give me some healing medicine. I am going out for some experiential training.
“Look at you. Are you about to explode with anger?”
Elder Duan said with some exasperation, “I have that much restraint at least. I won’t let myself be driven to madness by a junior. You still need to learn from me when it comes to composure.”
Ning Shu nodded. “I should learn from you. I am simply too small-minded, so I am going out now to see more of the world.”
“The world outside is different from Zisha Island. You should ask Old Li for a handy weapon,” Elder Duan suggested.
Ning Shu nodded. “I understand. You shouldn’t hold a grudge against Qi Cheng’s disciple either.”
“Are you still thinking about Qi Cheng?” Elder Duan squinted at her. “That disciple of his is quite a hurdle.”
“I have too many things to do and no heart for such matters. Take good care of yourself. I am leaving,” Ning Shu told him.
Elder Duan handed her some healing ointments. “It is good to go for a walk. Lately, the demand for heart-calming pills has been very high. Qi Cheng’s disciple is very capable, and the resulting comparison, jealousy, and hatred are all damaging people’s Dao hearts.”
Ning Shu shrugged. “That is why I am leaving. Out of sight, out of mind.”
“No backbone. Do not compare yourself to others for no reason. Immortal cultivation is a struggle against the heavens. Keep your eyes on the horizon.”
Since Ning Shu was about to leave, Elder Duan felt the need to nag her a bit more.
“Also, while you are out, do not go looking for trouble.”
Ning Shu nodded. “I understand.”
Ning Shu reached the shore. The area surrounding Zisha Island was a sea of purple due to the presence of zisha—’purple sand.’
The weapons refined on Zisha Island were famous throughout the cultivation world.
She took a sword out from her storage ring, leapt onto it, and flew away using sword kinesis.
Ning Shu stood on the flying sword with one foot, her hands behind her back as the wind whistled past her ears. Looking down, she saw the emerald-blue sea and sea monsters of all sizes leaping through the water.
Ning Shu smiled slightly, feeling as though the stifling weight in her chest had finally been exhaled.
She opened her arms. Flying on a sword felt much better than riding in an airplane, and the wind was incredibly refreshing.
The sea was vast. Ning Shu eventually switched from standing to sitting on the sword, dangling her legs.
She caught the faint sound of a graceful song and looked down to see a group of merfolk.
They had tattooed foreheads and scales painted upon their bodies—the classic appearance of the merfolk.
Ning Shu looked closely at them. They were covered in scales and were not particularly beautiful.
They made gurgling sounds as they skipped across the surface of the water.
Ning Shu rested her chin in her hand, watching the leaping merfolk.
She flicked her finger, and a droplet of water appeared before her. She swallowed it, feeling a wave of immense coolness.
She closed her eyes slightly, steering the flying sword with her mental energy while beginning to cultivate.
Cultivating here was more comfortable than on Zisha Island, and the discomfort in her chest had vanished.
After flying for more than two days, Ning Shu finally spotted land. During her flight, she had been attacked by sea beasts, particularly some that spat high-pressure jets of water at her.
Ning Shu controlled her sword, calmly flicking her fingers. They were attacking her with water, but even though this world suppressed her power, she was still the embodiment of the water ordinance.
Those water columns couldn’t hurt her at all. Instead, Ning Shu sent the water back at them, drenching the beasts until they dove beneath the surface in fear.
Once she reached land, she stowed her flying sword and disguised herself as an ordinary-looking woman. She used a nursery rhyme to pick a direction at random, leaving her destination entirely to fate.
She chose a path and began to walk slowly.
The world of cultivation was incredibly vast. Ning Shu walked for a long time without seeing any signs of life.
She failed to find any cities or towns, only encountering the occasional beast. However, these creatures were not powerful, so she didn’t bother with them.
After several days of walking, she finally came across a village. It was inhabited by ordinary people who followed the rhythm of the sun.
Ning Shu wanted to find a house to stay the night, but the villagers refused to take her in once they saw she was a woman traveling alone.
Mountain spirits and monsters were common, and the villagers were extremely cautious.
Ning Shu turned to leave. As she reached the village entrance, a little boy dressed in rags called out to her.
“Are you a fox spirit?” The boy stayed at a distance, likely afraid she was a monster from the wilderness.
Ning Shu turned to look at the boy. He was barefoot, and his clothes were covered in patches.
She bared her teeth and made a face. “Do you think there are fox spirits this ugly?”
“A fox can transform into a woman at fifty years old. At a hundred, it becomes a beautiful woman or a divine shaman who knows of things a thousand li away. They are good at enchanting and confusing people, making them lose their wits. At a thousand years old, they communicate with the heavens and become celestial foxes. You must be fifty right now, otherwise you would be a beauty at a hundred,” the boy said quite solemnly.
Ning Shu: …
She had been played by a little kid.
“Can you turn stones into gold?” the boy asked.
Ning Shu stuck out her tongue and put on a fierce expression. “Careful, or I might swallow you whole.”
“I am willing to trade myself. Can you give me some gold?” the boy asked, before falling to his knees with a thud. “Please, I beg you.”
Ning Shu: …
Why did he think she was a fox spirit?
“How am I a fox spirit?” she asked. “And what do you need gold for?”
The child was dressed in rags and appeared to be about twelve or thirteen. Based on his logic and speech, he seemed to be an educated boy.
Perhaps he had read some books about mountain spirits and strange tales and was now hoping for a fox spirit who could perform alchemy.
