Chapter 887: The Titan’s Fragments
Chapter 887: The Titan’s Fragments
Vritra stood before a spatial crack, with absolutely nothing around him stretching endlessly.
But a deadly suction force was constantly gushing out of the broken space, enough to pull gods or even higher beings toward oblivion.
The force was relentless, hungry, a vacuum that demanded to consume.
Crying monk stood not too far away, a barrier protecting them both from the devastating pull. His form remained steady, unaffected by the chaos.
"This place is a prison or also called a death zone, a place where the higher beings and others pushed one of the most dangerous species."
The crying monk spoke, looking at the realm with a mixture of reverence and caution. His voice carried the weight of ancient history.
The crack seemed to pull all the surrounding galaxies, planets, as if trying to devour them whole, an endless maw of destruction.
"...The Titans?" Vritra asked, wondering what his training would include, a chill running down his spine.
"You have a choice, two paths ahead of you.
The difficulty, time and your resulting strength will depend on your choice." The monk’s tone was serious, brooking no levity.
Hearing this, Vritra nodded slowly, waiting for the crying monk to continue, his mind already calculating possibilities.
"The first path will be a bit easy, it will bring your to godhood and without a doubt your strength will be enough to win the future war against the gods, then we won’t enter this realm and move to a different training ground." He paused, letting the words settle.
"I see, and the second choice is?" Vritra’s voice remained calm despite his racing thoughts.
"Directly aiming for the higher being realm!" crying monk’s voice resounded powerfully, carrying a heavy weight that seemed to shake the very air around them.
Vritra didn’t instantly make a choice, before asking carefully: "And what are the disadvantages of choosing this 2nd option aside from its difficulty?" He needed to understand the full scope before committing.
"There are many, the pain you will feel at many levels might be too much for your mind to endure, the time it will take will be so long you might start to forget your own existence, you might just end up dead and some more things."
Crying monk counted over his fingers methodically, each point more grim than the last.
Vritra: "..."
After a long silence he asked, his tone measured: "What are the chances of success?" He needed numbers, concrete probabilities.
"Hmm Originally... zero." The crying monk said matter of factly, his expression grave.
"And now with you being here?" Vritra pressed, seeking some glimmer of hope.
"It’s 20-80." Crying monk replied, after calculating something carefully in his mind.
"20 that I die and 80 that I succeed? Not bad." Vritra nodded, as expected the crying monk is quite capable. His lips twitched slightly upward.
"No no, it’s the opposite. 80 you die, 20 you might succeed, it will depend mainly on your efforts." Came the reply, delivered without mercy or sugar-coating.
Vritra once again fell silent, his mind absorbing the weight of those odds. Even in 20, there is a might? He cursed divine and the crying monk a few times in his mind bitterly before asking:
"Is there really even a chance of success? If the chances of death is so high, why would you bring me here?" His frustration was evident but controlled.
"Although this step will bring me directly to higher beings level, but there are two many problems, don’t you have any other method?" He paused, collecting his thoughts.
"Even though he would very much like to get stronger quickly, but that doesn’t mean he would gamble with his life when failure is almost guaranteed. He can take things slow and grow to that level eventually."
"There are other ways but they will take too long and has even lower chances of success." The crying monk began, then raised a hand.
"But!"
He paused dramatically, making Vritra roll his eyes internally. This bald monk really seemed to enjoy such theatrical moments.
The monk continued: "I do have a way to increase the chances greatly, but how much it will increase will depend on your hard work, diligence and obsession, also your fate.
The success might even increase to over 90 or be reduced to 0."
"I see." Vritra still didn’t reply immediately but asked further, his expression thoughtful. "How long will this take?"
"For you it will be a long long time, hundreds of thousands of years even, maybe more, I’m not sure." Crying monk replied uncertainly, scratching his chin.
"But in the outside world, it will be around 5 to 6 months." He paused, reconsidering. "Clearly, it might even take longer."
"Then that would be impossible, the game will be held in around four months, not to mention I still to do some things in the higher beings realm." Vritra frowned deeply, seeing a critical obstacle.
He had joined the Holy Righteous Heretics, so to get more information and benefits he would need to be present there actively.
"I have already thought of a solution for that, so its not a problem." Crying monk said, shrugging as if it were a minor detail.
"Not to mention, I have to be there with Yasmine." Vritra added, another layer of constraint.
Hearing this, the crying monk fell into deep thoughts, his expression shifting as possibilities arranged themselves. After a while he spoke:
"With a little management of time, that could be handled as well, so not much time would pass for her personally."
Vritra thought for a bit, his mind running through the scenarios.
There didn’t seem to be any more problems standing in the way, and crying monk definitely wanted him to choose this option. The desire was palpable.
"Okay then I will go with this." He finally spoke, commitment settling over him like a cloak.
Nodding, crying monk spoke as if he had already expected this outcome: "Then let’s get you a bit geared up." His tone shifted to something more practical.
After speaking, the crying monk tapped his staff gently against the ground. It suddenly underwent a dramatic transformation before Vritra’s eyes.
It became a black staff as if made from a spatial fragment itself, with countless tiny rings around the top shimmering with power. Near the base, it became perfectly round and smooth, gleaming with dark luminescence.
"Here, this will help you traverse in that endless space, navigating what should be unnavigable." The monk handed it over carefully.
"It can also be charged up with the more titan’s fragments you kill or collect which can then be used for defence or offence as needed."
"And! These rings you see is like a life token, each time you die, one ring will break and you will be restored."
The monk pointed to the gleaming rings encircling the staff. "Still you will have to be very careful, this place is too dangerous beyond measure."
Vritra nodded, taking the staff and feeling its weight settle in his hands. This staff was certainly a top grade treasure even among the higher beings, a weapon of legend.
And if he was getting so many extra lives embedded within it, the challenge is going to be extremely difficult, hell or maybe impossible level.
’But if I can do it, then I won’t have to hide among the higher beings anymore.’ He thought, a spark of determination igniting within.
"What exactly will I have to do?" Vritra questioned carefully, as crying monk passed on the space and began to explain:
"The titans were thrown into that rift since their very existence was too dangerous and no one truly had any proper way to deal with them effectively."
The monk’s voice took on a historical quality. "And in this place, the titans all killed one another and devoured them over eons. But!"
The crying monk again paused dramatically, making Vritra roll his eyes visibly this time. This bald monk really seemed to enjoy pausing like that in the conversations, building tension.
"But what?" Vritra asked impatiently, waiting for the revelation.
"But there appeared a variable, the divine! He allowed the last and the strongest titan to escape, in a way with your help unknowingly."
The monk’s expression grew complex. "But he also stopped that final titan from completely devouring all the titans, so although they are all dead, the fragments of the titans has scattered across that space like seeds."
"And you have to collect all those fragments and devour them, by the end you will be at a level of powerful higher beings." The monk gestured expansively toward the rift.
"As difficult as it is, the reward will be great beyond measure."
Vritra listened carefully, absorbing every word. From what he heard before, collecting these fragments won’t be easy nor the same for all the fragments.
Crying monk had even mentioned killing some fragments directly, but now he has a concrete goal to pursue.
Whatever it is, he will do his best to succeed.
"Now finally, what do you plan about the god’s war and me staying in the higher being realm? And what about the god’s mana?" he asked, clearing his mind of distractions.
These were the practical concerns.
"That is easy, I will just create a puppet for you, an exact copy to take your place." The crying monk said casually. "As for that God’s mana, it will be of a great help to you once you start consuming the fragments."
Right after speaking, the crying monk made a grabbing motion toward Vritra’s arm. Then a drop of Vritra’s blood was extracted along with a tiny piece of his skin, glowing softly as it left his body.
