Raising the Lowest-Ranked Adventurer, the Heroic Girl – Wasn’t I Just a Substitute Old Man?

Chapter 0

“If you’re expecting to witness glorious victories by following me, it’s nothing but an illusion. I am not capable of bestowing grand triumphs. What I can do is resort to cunning, cleverness, deceit, and greed, and simply strive for victory. Those who watch may condemn or scorn us. Is that acceptable to you?”

Indeed. I am nothing more than an ordinary person. I cannot achieve impressive victories. I cannot produce the magnificent results that everyone admires.

There is only one thing I can do. I can struggle and strive in a rather undignified manner.

However, if you still say that’s alright…

“…What adventurers truly need is not to fight gallantly, but to survive even if they must crawl on their hands and knees. That’s what you taught me, isn’t it?”

The girl standing before me, upon hearing my words, must have envisioned a different image of an adventurer. A different ideal of what it means to be an adventurer.

To be strong, cool, and possess incredible power to save anyone and everyone… such a heroic image of an adventurer.

“It has only been about a month since I received your teachings, but even so, those teachings have become the foundation of the ‘adventurer that I am’ within me, and I do not consider it a mistake. Therefore, I have no intention of wavering or being confused about such matters at this point.”

Yet, even so, she is willing to abandon that original ideal and lower her head to a low-ranking adventurer like me, all because she desires victory.

As I observe the girl’s determination, I exhale softly and gaze directly into her eyes.

“…In that case, I will let you win.”

“Yes!”

And so, we begin to move. To protect the invaluable feelings that we cannot yield.
