Raising the Lowest-Ranked Adventurer, the Heroic Girl – Wasn’t I Just a Substitute Old Man?

Volume 2  Chapter 13   Kana: Tailing

——Asada Kana——

One week later, the team consisting of Mizuki and his friends descended into the dungeon instead of going to school. However, due to the occasional trouble caused by Koosuke inside the dungeon, the four of them seemed more fatigued than usual.

“Hey, is it too late to do it today? How about going out tomorrow?”

Whether it was playing despite being tired or playing to heal their fatigue, Kana announced to the team after bidding farewell.

“I’m sorry, but I have some errands tomorrow starting from noon. I’ll take a rest.”

Koosuke was also included in that invitation, but when Kana looked at him, he simply said those words and bid them farewell, heading back home.

“Since Igami-san has something to take care of, shall we go just the two of us?”

“Hmm, yeah.”

Although their invitation was declined, Mizuki and Kana began to discuss their plans. However, someone dropped a bombshell at that moment.

“Could it be… like before, with a woman?”

“Ah!”

The one who reacted immediately to Yuzu’s words was none other than Kana, as expected.

“Yuzu…”

“You idiot.”

“Huh? – Ah.”

Upon hearing Mizuki and Haruka’s words, Yuzu became aware of her thoughtless comment, but it was already too late.

“I’m going! Where are you going?”

“…To the city! That’s what we were talking about, right?”

Kana showed a troubled expression in response to Mizuki’s question, which was only natural. After all, Kana and the others had no idea who Koosuke was planning to meet or where he lived.

However, realizing that there was no point in pondering over it, Kana decided to go to the place where Haruka had seen Koosuke last time.

“Besides, maybe… yeah. Maybe we might bump into him, but it’s just a coincidence! Just randomly running into each other in the city!”

Seeing Kana making such excuses, Mizuki and the others couldn’t help but feel a bit exasperated. However, they couldn’t just leave her alone and decided to accompany her.

“There he is!”

And the next day.

As soon as school ended, Kana and the others immediately made their way to the front of the station.

Kana’s true desire was to skip school and search, but she held back because she didn’t want to appear too obsessed with Koosuke.

Well, her obsession is probably already known among her friends anyway.

“That guy doesn’t have a job after all…!”

After all the fuss, as soon as school ended, Kana and the others headed to the city, convinced that a movie would be the perfect date. They made their way to the building with the movie theater based on this mysterious confidence.

Once they reached the entrance of the building, they discussed what to do next. However, in the midst of the discussion, almost unbelievably, they spotted Koosuke with a woman.

“I can’t believe we actually found him…”

“Well, no one knew the location of Mr. Igami’s house in the first place, so it’s not surprising that it’s trial and error.”

“Hey, enough. It’s great that we found him. But more importantly, we need to follow him or we’ll lose sight of him!”

Upon hearing the overflowing words from her friends, Kana blushed slightly and pointed at Koosuke walking with the woman.

“Hehe. I’ll put the stealth techniques you taught me in the dungeon to use now.”

Whispering to herself, Kana cautiously followed Koosuke, trying not to make any suspicious movements, just like when diving into a dungeon.

“I feel like I’m using my power in the wrong way…”

“I agree.”

“But, you know, it wouldn’t be good if we’re noticed after coming this far, right?”

While Mizuki and Haruka are exasperated, Yuzu’s words have some validity.

Even though there are no specific penalties for being discovered, it’s not a good thing to be caught tailing someone’s private life without permission, especially when they’re not even close friends.

It could potentially damage the current relationship they have.

Therefore, Mizuki and Haruka nod in agreement with Yuzu’s words and start following Kana, who is leading the way.

But…

“…He seems somewhat troubled.”

“Perhaps this isn’t something he wanted to do in the first place?”

Although they’ve only been tailing for a few minutes, Koosuke has been wearing a difficult expression throughout.

In contrast, the woman beside him is smiling, making Koosuke’s demeanor even more noticeable.

“By the way, aren’t they gradually moving away from the city center?”

“Are they going home already?”

“Isn’t that too early? We still have plenty of time, don’t we?”

As Kana and the others tail Koosuke and his companion, they notice that they are gradually moving away from the city center.

Without any particular destination in mind, Kana’s group quietly wonders what their intentions could be.

However, just as Kana and the others observe their actions, Koosuke suddenly takes the woman’s hand and veers off the main road, entering a side street where they begin to have a conversation.

And then…

“…Made her cry.”

After speaking to the woman, Koosuke’s words cause her to start shedding tears.

From this scene alone, one might think that they were having a conversation about parting ways.

“But she’s also laughing.”

This surprises Kana and the others, but as Koosuke and the woman continue their conversation, the woman, while still shedding a few tears, nods with a smile.

“It’s a bit confusing when we see Koosuke’s face from earlier, but if we just look at that moment, they seem to have a normal, friendly relationship.”

“Yes, Koosuke also has a gentle expression unlike before.”

“Sniff…”

While discussing these things, Koosuke and his companion stand up from a bench, walk a little, and then enter a nearby pastry shop.

“Huh?”

“She looked over here?”

However, in that moment, as if sensing the presence of Kana and the others who were supposed to be hiding like they do in the dungeon, the woman’s gaze turned towards them.

However, she quickly lost interest and redirected her gaze forward, entering the shop.

“…She did look over here just now, right?”

“Y-Yeah, I think so, but…”

Kana and the others couldn’t understand why that woman looked in their direction.

Despite Koosuke having taught them countless ways to conceal their presence in the dungeon, could it be that they were noticed?

While Kana and the others were surprised by this, they couldn’t discuss the matter at that moment.
